I
make sure to play both in all games, usually man first and then the
woman, but I prefer playing as FemShep because if I am going to be
spending hours staring at their back it mine as well be a woman. Not
that I stare at FemShep's pixelated buttocks or anything but if it's
there it might as well be her.

Plus Jennifer Hale rocks.

Well, even regarding this Bioware screwed up in ME2, because in the first game she was better looking in armor.
Of course armor was armor, not spandex.

Gosh, now I'm pessimist and will cancel my pre-order! ../../../images/forum/emoticons/angel.png

but they're changing the armor in 3, don't worry, her fanny will likely look better....lol

He's such an epic guy. I'd so want to drink a beer with him in the local hard rock café (I'm sure he loves that kind of music) if I ever had the chance.

He is pretty cool. Nolan North, Mark Meers and Jennifer Hale are top voice actors in my honest opinion. Yes I said it Nolan North.

Wow, that actually shows allot, only 20% of the player base uses femshep, but on the BSN it's basically 50/50 with a slight lead for femshep.

Really? I wouldn't be so sure about that. It's just that femShep players are more vocal about it. Because the femShep players are more vocal than the manShep players, it might appear that they are even, or slightly bigger than the manShap-playing group, but I think in reality, even on BSN the manShep players outnumber the femShep players.

That's sort of my point. I think it's also interesting that femshep players are more likely to come to the forums. Maybe it's because they're female, who knows.

Check out my last post Slidell. That 20% isnt entirely what it seems.

Also the figures never talked about multiple plays ect. Im sure the percentage is higher. If it was only 20% then Bioware wouldnt feel inclined to be marketing her as heavily as they are right now. It more then just 'fan service' supporting a slim vocal minority which many stubborn BSN folk believe.

I personally prefer male shepard, but I happily play and enjoy both.

I played three playthroughs on both games before I tried the female shep. I enjoyed it just as much as the other; more so with the female on screen than a dude. Think I am going to start ME3 with my fem shep.

Not gonna lie, I totally stare at FemShep's ass in ME1 during elevator rides and such. Lately I've really been living up to my avatar pic.

As for which one I prefer to play as, I usually do MaleShep for a number of reasons.

1) In ME2, at least, the animations were made for a male. I hate seeing clipping issues and the character model not actually touching something they should be.

2) The DLC armor was clearly meant for a male. With a MShep I don't really worry about how he looks (and if I do it's to look badass), just if he's wearing the best armor stat-wise for the upcoming mission. That can be a wide range of armor pieces/sets.
With FemShep I try to make her look hot in armor, which usually means Kestrel legs, N7 chestplate, off-hand ammo pack, asymmetrical defense layer, and nothing on her head.

3) The hairstyle I use for FemShep has this graphical glitch where the parting in her hair flickers and turns white unpredictably. Kind of annoying. Never happens with the Vanderloo head.

That poll needs an "I play as both equally" option.

That would be the option I would pick

I was just curious.

The reasons that female shepard was preferred was because of the performance the voice actor Jennifer Hale gave.

If Mark Meers improved in the eyes of gamers, would the results change?

This is my opinion. Mark Meer does a great job of making paragon and renegade reactions sound like there coming from the same person. This makes me feel that male shepard is better suited to playing a paragade or renegon Shepard. While Jennifer Hale's paragon and renegade reactions sound like 2 different people, so I feel that Hale is great for complete renegade or paragon playthroughs.
When it comes to emotion that we hear a lot as a reason to why Hale does a better job; we tend to forget that men really don't show that much emotion in there voice in reality. Mark Meer though will show emotion when the time is appropriate, so Mark Meer sounds like a normal guy what a surprise. Hale shows much more emotion in her voice, but guess what women tend to show more emotion in their voice then men.
So they both have their pros and cons, but when it comes down to it Mark Meer makes Male Shepard great and Jennifer Hale makes Female Shepard  great.

Sorry for bad grammer writing this fast as I have to meet up with some friends.

I always loved Jennifer Hale's performance more. Mark Meers voice always sounded out of place to me, although he's a very good voice actor.

I would be surprised if it were more than 35%. I can give you the multiple plays, but a majority of players only played once. Hell, only about 50% completed the game. And since they're putting in an "Action Mode" which skips dialog selection all together, and only 15% of players skipped majority of the dialog, who's to say they wouldn't do it for fans? They've been asking for it since ME1.

Male shep is hot for a drawing of a hot man but his voice is flat to me and really he's been through hell and come out saving the universe twice he should be more emotional at times.

I play as femshep because I hate playing a male character and nowadays I simply can't do it. I love the emotion for ren and par playthrus and have never had a problem paragading or renagoning with Hale as the VA.

Her emotional inflections are spot on epic and allow for very specific styled RPGing, She is a darling to her crew but ruthless with her enemies and She delivers the renegade speech for Tali so perfectly.

I dunno. Shepard being a woman just works better for me. The video game market (and media in general) is pretty much flooded with strong, heroic, male protagonists, it's refreshing to see a woman in that role for a change.

That, and I simply relate better to women than to men.

Her animations in ME2 annoyed me quite a bit, though.

Men not generally showing emotion is a cop-out, voice acting is still acting.

F!Shep always sound monotone to me. Hale was better at voicing Bastila in KOTOR. Not so much in ME.

Have you talked to Jacob with Femshep? That is NOT monotone. That is a cougar waiting to pounce on Jacob tone. Wonder why he is in the armory with all the guns? I think we found the answer:P

I do love Jenifer Hale's voice and I love playing femshep cause of her voice. This definately isn't the first game where I heard men playing females to stare at their bodies and it won't be the last. Might as well make her hot and badass!

Claudia Shepard: [Saultry voice] I'm more interested in talking for a bit
Jacob Taylor: I'm good Shepard. Ready for anything. We live, we'll get live and spill some drinks on the Citadel.

Bro hug. Sort of.

There was this poll some time ago from the show stopping act that is Angry Frozen Water

http://social.biowar...168/polls/2829/

What does this tell you about the gamers and the game itself?

Are gender preferences for Comander Shepard likely to change in Mass Effect 3?

Anyway, feel free to rant and rave, but please no sexist remarks. And no bad jokes about changing gender

Why even care? "Some people prefer to play as a gender that I don't play".

Maaaan.. Its just a game who gives a ****.
