Man, episode 5 isn't making things easy on us awkward folks. Okay, so pledging your undying love right off the bat is an inauspicious decision...a little like watching a train wreck, though.

I bet Amon is really this Tarrlok guy. Aside from how phony the "Firebenders killed my family and burned off my face" story sounds, I really wouldn't put it past either of 'em to be manipulating both sides.
Thats what I am thinking. It might not be Tarrlok (whoever that is supposed to be and I suspect that history will be explained somewhere down the line) but the whole "Benders were horrible to me" is a embelishment if not outright lie.

Except that my personal prediction is that she's the classic play on the male lead. ie, she's a badguy running a honeypot.
That'd be way too obvious and trope-y. It is a possibility since I'm a hard cynic when it comes to portrayals of ladies in the media, but out of all creators on tv right now, these guys I have faith and trust in to go with something more interesting.
Plus, I rather not have her turn into a villain or antagonist or even 'badguy' by proxy affiliations since it'd just turn this whole love rectangle into a mess. And I don't want to see Korra vs. Asami get ridiculously petty, vying for Mako's affections, and her 'badguy'-ness just being fuel for the rivalry. It is already headed down the path of concern for me as it is.

Maybe I am reading too much into it. It just strikes me as that sob pity me because I have been abused more then you know story wannabe dictators loe to use.
Too disengenouis for my taste.

He's a crazy demogogue who wears a creepy mask and may have learned how to Energybend--or at least mimic it damn effectively. How honest can he be?
Though I would like to see Amon turn out to be less of a clear-cut villain than, say, Ozai or Azula were.

He may be using anti-bender sentiment to sweep rivals for power over the city out of his way. Certainly the triads seem a likely target for that.Hellbound555 wrote...
Maybe he is just saying those things to get people over to his side...But it makes no sense he would create and lead the force that wants to take him out and to actually do it. Unless if the benders arent really his target, but that remains to be seen.
Might be relying on the Equalists' needing Amon's marching orders to protect him - since any time they actually have Amon to lead them, he would be unavailable as a target.

I agree. My prediction is based on the understanding that Nick doesn't exactly avoid tropes.Deviija wrote...

well we are already half way though the series they had to do it sooner than The Last Airbender would've did it.Megaton_Hope wrote...

I wouldn't be surprised. The entire Avatar series has a lot of parallels to Star Wars.
Thankfully Avatar has better writers than George Lucas:pinched:

The ATLA page on TV Tropes is a freaking marathon. Almost as bad as Harry Potter's.

I really like it. I think we're eventually going to see how Republic City got established. And we also get to see Aang and Katara in relationship mode. Which is, imo, pretty adorable.

The impulsiveness of the whole thing fits her though. Personally I'd choose Bolin, he's so dorky and sweet.Megaton_Hope wrote...

Sadly she has to fall into the whole "brooding bad boy is hot" trap.

There are 26 total episodes, actually--the series was renewed for a second book.

Yeah, hence my lack of surprise a teenage boy is smitten with her. Indeed, there is nothing wrong with that. I just feel true love should not be so shallow.
Time will tell whether Asami will go through a heel face turn or is a reluctant pawn. Although I'm not lumping her in with the Equalists just yet.

Eh, he's not really a bad boy. Aside from Bolin being a little heftier and more on the big-funny-guy side, they're practically the same dude. Had the same awful childhood, know all the same street gangs and everything. They just cope slightly differently; Bolin acts like a goof, Mako owns a security blanket.Ecaiki wrote...

Well, also, Bolin's not quite as resourceful. I guess Mako's got that going for him.

Seeing Korra and Lin work together was pure awesome. That chase fight was better than the one Korra and Mako had with those chi blockers. Too bad the Fire Ferrets lost the championship due to corruption. The Equalists dropping in and humiliating the Wolfbats made up for it, though.
The downside is I'm not sure I like where the show is going now. Will Equalists and their sympathizers start brawling benders in the starts now? Amon is getting increasingly brazen--resorting to terrorist tactics. I liked them better as subtler enemies than that. Ah well.

I loved seeing Lin get some more screentime--her and Korra really made for an interesting team. Hopefully they'll continue with the pro-bending subplot.
