Agreed. I think he's a stronger and better airbender than Zaheer.

 

Great episode overall, but I was especially happy to see that Zaheer really couldn't match Tenzin alone as an airbender. Much as I'm liking Zaheer, it would have definitely felt cheap if he could simply match an experienced master with his borrowed abilities.

I wonder if Korra can beat Zaheer one-on-one.

 

Zaheer's plan is pretty stupid.  It's obvious that Korra will bring an army with her.  The Zaheer foursome may be powerful, but there is no way they can beat Korra + Lin + Tanlaq + Mako + Bolin + Suyi and sons + a troop of metalbenders.

 

Unless Suyi betrays Korra.  Which does not seem like it'll happen.  Even if Suyi turns, it's unlikely her sons and metalbenders will go along.

Aww, Aang's kids are so underpowered, with the exception of Tenzin.

Not a whole lot to comment. The fights were predictable as usual. A bit disappointed even if Tenzin performed well.

This week's episode was both disappointing and great, though the balance is inclined towards the former in my case. With the Earth Queen dead, or at least toppled, chaos has engulfed Ba Sing Se, with people rioting and looting in equal measure. Even the palace guards decide to join the looters so that should you give some idea of the madness of it all. In the midst of this, Mako and Bolin commandeer an airship to deliver Zaheer's message to Korra in a scene that lets Bolin show off his people skills. Points for having a fun break featuring smart Bolin as opposed to his goofy counterpart. In any event, before we leave Ba Sing Se, Mako and Bolin decide to pay their family one last visit. Because that's what you do when the city's tearing itself to pieces and you have the only ticket out of it. This was another funny moment as our pair discovers the family's stuck because their grandmother won't evacuate. So Bolin gives an uplifting speech on how "home is where the heart is," his grandmother smiles and...
 

 

   

 
Obviously, Bolin carries her anyway but not before she takes that damn portrait of the Earth Queen with her. Eventually our heroes track down Korra to the Misty Palms Oasis and inform her of Zaheer's intentions: he's tired of chasing the Avatar so he's going to make her come to him... by attacking the Northern Air Temple! DUN-DUN-DUUUUN!!! (yes, that link will take you to the actual sound effect)
 

 
Upon learning this, Korra decides to warn Tenzin of the incoming threat but their radio isn't powerful enough so they travel to Zaofu- Ah, you know how it goes! Korra won't be able to warn Tenzin in time but she conveniently returns to a city where she can recruit a few allies to her cause. Now the strike team for the next episodes consists of Team Avatar, Lin, Tonraq, plus Su and her metalbending guards. Incidentally, the character I was most looking forward to see return to action, Zuko, has decided he needs to protect his daughter first so it's unlikely (but not impossible) that he'll be joining the strike team. The elephant in the room is that, with the exception of Tonraq, this is the exact same makeup that fought Team Bane Zaheer and let them get away. Granted, the circumstances were different but Zaheer's track record has proven, and will prove so again in this episode, that they're simply too powerful. We're 11 episodes into Book Three with only 2 more to go and at no point has there been a serious discussion on how to effectively contain and subdue the fearless foursome nor has Korra shown any interest in knowing how they were caught in the first place. I'm not asking any member of Team Avatar to suddenly become Inaho from Aldnoah.Zero but it couldn't hurt for someone to emulate him from time to time, doubly so when you know you're walking into a trap. For what's worth, I would try to contain Ghazan and P'Li first since their lava and artillery strikes are way OP. Divide and conquer, Korra, divide and conquer.
 
Before we move on to the Northern Air Temple we should mention Iroh's return. While I was looking forward to it (see here) it was not done anyway near close to what I had envisioned. Korra realizes there's no way they'll get to the Northern Air Temple before Zaheer so she decides to contact him in the spirit world in the hopes of stalling him. Cue the screams of joy of the Korrasami fans as Asami volunteers to watch over her...
 

 
... and we're back to the spirit world. As Korra challenges Zaheer to make himself visible the shape of a man begins to form, and that man's none other than uncle Iroh. None of them were looking for each other but I guess that's how the spirit world works, right? It doesn't give you the thing that you want but the thing that you need and Korra was in desperate need of some guidance. Unfortunately, Iroh simply forwards her to Zuko since he was friends with Aang and that's the end of the conversation. I was expecting something a bit more elaborate than that but I guess you can't have everything.
 
So, how then does Korra fair with Zuko? Well, he tells her that Aang might've sacrificed everything to save the air nation but he was also always mindful of being the Avatar and having a larger responsibility. Basically, Aang could've turned himself over to Zaheer or not. Helpful advice that is not. It's like saying that if you flip a coin you'll get tails or heads. It's an obvious and ultimately useless fact but Korra seems happy so good for her.
 
Now we come to the meat of the episode: the showdown in the Northern Air Temple. Caught by surprise, the new airbenders are defeated and rounded up as Zaheer proceeds to explain to Tenzin he does not intend to harm anyone so long as Korra turns herself in. And this was this episode's greatest moment. Zaheer confidently states Tenzin has no choice but to acquiesce and, truth be told, you'd expect as much from any other show. The setup is often the same: bad guys capture innocents to use as leverage, then the good guys arrive and save them. It's a well-known trope that often suffers from having some powerful character being among the captives who refuses to fight. While sometimes the reason for this refusal is understandable it is always frustrating to see the same situation being used over and over again. That's why this moment was awesome...
 

 

 
It gets even better as Tenzin asks Kya and Bumi to join him, showing an unprecedented amount of confidence in his older brother (we already know Kya can take care of herself). Even Kai showed he was more than just a love interest for Jinora and distracted P'Li while the airbenders made a run for it. However, there's no doubt Tenzin stole the show as he took on Zaheer one-on-one and proceeded to give him a thorough and painful lesson on what it means to be a true airbending master.
 

 
Unfortunately, while the action was great as usual and Tenzin's display of awesomeness was second to none, we all knew the fight had a foregone conclusion. After all, it's not as if the writers were going to have Zaheer attack the Northern Air Temple and fail, right? Not with only two episodes left to go. So the fight ends as we knew it would: Kya, Bumi and Kai defeated but managing to escape, the airbenders captured, and the fearless foursome threesome (P'Li was on the airship) ganging up on Tenzin to beat the crap out of him and quite possibly murder him.
 
It's a shame, truly, that a character that started off as a smart villain who forewent the use of deadly force ended up turning into a thug who murders people for some agenda that makes about as much sense as Bane's in TDKR. Heck, if anything, it makes Amon look better (again). Amon would've probably used bloodbending to subdue Tenzin, taken away his bending, and left him be. Furthermore, he would have vehemently opposed Zaheer and his cohort, seeing them as powerful bending masters who thoroughly abused their power to pursue their own schemes.
 
In the end, the fighting was good, it had some fun moments, but that's about it. At this point, I think it's safe to say Book Three has ditched Book Two entirely other than using it to gift airbending powers as if they were candy and showing some spirits from time to time to remind us Korra left the portals open for "reasons." This week's episode did nothing to elucidate the Red Lotus' true goal (because I refuse to believe something as stupid as: murder authority figures =  balance) or their backstory and Team Avatar remains as clueless as ever. Not to mention Korra has made no effort to reconnect with her past lives or energybend again and Bolin has made no significant attempt to either metalbend or lavabend. All signs so far point to Book Three ending in a lackluster cliffhanger or with another rushed exposition dump followed by a deus ex machina.
 
I hope I'm wrong in both counts.

That little moment with Iroh made me sad, plus Zuko's face after hearing Korra has spoken to him, not just once, but a few times - doesn't help that I'm re-watching ATLA (currently on season 2) and seeing those two go through their own struggle again... feels.

This week's episode did nothing to elucidate the Red Lotus' true goal (because I refuse to believe something as stupid as: murder authority figures = balance) or their backstory and Team Avatar remains as clueless as ever.

Aye, I'm not holding my breath until the very end of the Book...assuming the true motives are fully let out by then. It's an action episode, for better or for worse.

In the end, the fighting was good, it had some fun moments, but that's about it.

An awful lot of the first half was filler material you'd expect to happen, but what can you do.

I think that episode accomplished what it needed to do in regards to showing Zaheer at his lowest (in regards to his fighting) so far.  He was clearly outmatched and his attitude towards capturing Korra so far has been patience.  To go down this route doesn't ultimately express him as just some "thug", change is happening and he has done more than enough so far, in relation to "going with their plan" at least... that's how I view it anyway.  His extreme methods in regards to wiping out the air nation was also balanced with what he said about letting them go if they chose to do nothing, which shows he doesn't necessarily want to (but other options have failed him in the past; patient planning, etc).  I still believe they're going to end on a high note and overall, I thought the episode was well done, while the first half being decent (a filler as Dom said) and the last ten minutes or so exceeding my expectations.
