it's actually ATLA as in Avatar: The Last Airbender.Compared to TLAB it is quite the change. On screen electrocutions, suffocation.

True. Korra is more "mature" in that sense.

Three years later? I hope that means we're getting a much more centered Korra, like the difference between TESB Luke and ROTJ Luke. It looks like at least some Earth benders haven't given up on the empire idea though.
Random thoughts:
- Korra cutting her hair like that and donning green garments ala Earth-bender suggests she's possibly going undercover (if that's even possible). The alternative being she's pulling a Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins, travelling around the world looking for a fight. I still prefer the first scenario with Earth Rumble (yes, it's back) possibly being used to round up candidates for a new Earth army.
- Does this look like the face of the leader of said new Earth Army?

I don't know why but it reminds me of one Reinhard Von Lohengram.
It looks like they're using mechas too...

And could they have recruited Bolin at some point?
- It looks like the Foggy Swamp is making a comeback as well, in a manner perhaps not entirely unlike Dagobah's "cave of evil"...

Some quick thoughts on the trailer:
God damn, that was freaking awesome!!!!!!!
The music was on point, and the drums really got my adrenaline going.
Kuvira, Kuvira, Kuvira...damn. She looks so badass in that trailer. And there's no doubt she's gonna be a villain. Can't wait to hear Zelda Williams voice her for Book 4.

Well, with the 3 year time gap, I'm even more sold on the "This is Dark Knight Rises" idea, and I'm pretty happy with that.
Korra looks awesome, Kuvira seems very villain-like. I hope they end the Avatar universe on a strong note.

Wasn't expecting such a large time skip, and I get the impression that Korra's been drifting away from people, rather than bouncing back to her brash reckless self. A good sign. I'm hoping see a more somber and introspective Korra. So it looks like the Earth Kingdom has come under new management? Zaofu management? And they have more steampunk mecha? Cool. Saw Varric and I think Katarra in there. I'm sorta hoping we get to see the Fire Nation a little. We haven't seen them in Korra yet really.
And of course: TOPH!

I'm actually surprised by the continued focus on the Earth kingdom. The rumor was that since Spirits focused on Water Tribe and Change focused on Earth Kingdom, that Balance would focus on the Fire Nation. Here's hoping we get to see something of it.

I bet Toph's totally the main villain guys. Korra is doomed. DOOOOOOOMED.
The earth kingdom is about to become the Melon Empire. All hail the Melon Empress.

I'm curious about this image:

I think Korra would not appear in front of (as in leading) these guys (the helmet kinda gives them away as baddies) unless, of course, this army is actually surrounding her as she fights one of their leaders, Kuvira maybe? There's a small glimpse of this (the army surrounding her as she fights) in this .gif:

EDIT: It's clearer here:

On an altogether different note, am I the only one getting a military-vibe from these suits:

I don't know, perhaps Varrick made them but he seems more technologically-inclined. I would expect him to build a jetpack actually.
Well, that was fast...
