Aang was soloing volcanoes non-avatar. At 13 that's a feat. WTF has Korra done in comparison to that? I like that she went wandering Ronin. Sometimes it's the only way to evaluate the self.
The scene reminded me of Toph squaring off against THE BOULDER,

just watched the premiere! excellent start.
I am starting to enjoy Legend of Korra more then I did Last Airbender. It's a shame there are so few episodes. This show kept its' momentum from season 3.

Yeah, it was a bit awkward to watch(and seems a bit stereotypical), but I'm assuming that the writers are going somewhere worthwhile with this. Time will tell. As far as Kuvira's methods, her mantra is similar to Saren's viewpoint on the Reapers: Is submission not preferable to extinction? She could've taken the persuasive route. Maybe it was easier writing a hard-ass metalbender than the heart-of-gold metalbender?
I think you could make the case that Kuvira's character wouldn't allow for a "gentler" approach. She's neither a politician nor a diplomatic, she's first and foremost a soldier so that could explain part of her harshness. Furthermore, we don't know what, if anything, happened in those three years that might have encouraged her to act so. Besides, if she were downright perfect, there wouldn't be any conflict, would there now?
even if that were so, the world three years later would be different from what's it's seen in the show currently.

Aang had to learn how to let go of his humanity and be The Avatar. Korra needs to learn how to be a person. And that is an amazing twist on an old trope."

Bolin always has a shitty luck with women but I hope that will not be the case with Opal. Also you know Kuvira will get ass whooped why even bother?
I wonder if Korra will just let Kuvira have her cake and eat it too. Remember the story in Hero with Jet li in it? Jet Li's character was sent to assassinate a tyrant king, but decides not to because the king was waging a terrible war so he could unite China under one banner. Maybe Korra will end up doing the same with Kuvira.
