"Except as the seasons progress, Korra steadily loses confidence — in both herself and her purpose. She’s realizing that being the Avatar is not just about beating up obvious threats. The world is less clear-cut than that. She has, on more than one occasion, been deceived by people who claimed to be ‘doing the right thing.’
Now she’s a washed up ex-hero.
Which is a nice reflection of the older viewing audience. A lot of us grew up hearing that we were smart and amazing, only to end up in dead-end jobs with no sense of self-worth. It’s a thing we can identify with.
Aang had to learn how to let go of his humanity and be The Avatar. Korra needs to learn how to be a person. And that is an amazing twist on an old trope."
