Watching episode 10 right now and I'm left wondering exactly why Toph didn't just crush Kuvira like an insect. Oh right, "leave it to the kids" nonsense.

Also, Korra is the worst bridge between the physical and spiritual ever, seriously.

A good question; she spat an insult, and went on their way. Toph is tough.

...but at that point I'd guess her concern was more on keeping her friends/allies safe...over gambling with their lives in trying to weaken Kuvira for imprisonment.

-------------------

I watched the end again; As far as I can tell, their priority was rescue and/or prevent serious destruction. Trying to pull off all 3 at once may have been too much, considering the enemy forces were stunned but not crippled beyond repair.

Toph doesn't seem interested in getting involved with the whole Kuvira thing at all, she just came for her family.

Probably...

I just think this series' obsession with steampunk mecha suits is really misplaced.

oh i said that the moment i saw the smaller ones. I mean book one had the first automobiles, and now 3 years later they have tech that not even real world military has.

There's no such thing as misplaced obsession with giant robots.

Also remember the big ass drill from Last Airbender?

That totally fit with that technology level of that time period right?

Didn't that drill run on coal? The air nation already had airships didn't they, steam powered tech is one thing, and 80 years later discovering what i assume fossil fuel for cars isn't that much of a jump.. but giant mech suits with hands free controls? They don't even have basic circuitry down, but they can build laser cannons and giant mech suits.. something is really wrong here.

Not that much of a stretch really.

If you remember we went from the first Planes to the moon landing within 50 or so years.

To be fair, the laser is powered by spirit magical... Stuff.

I sort of came to accept the smaller ones, I like steampunk, the the giant Kuvira mech is more than a bit much, even if it apparently requires metalbending to move.

It's a pity that next week will be the end of two very great shows.

they are leaving that to Korra in the finale. She will harkon on to Zaheer's words and metal bend the entire robo suit into a prison for Kuvira. then stripe her of her bending ability.

Huh. That'd actually be an interesting way to do it.

Finished watching episode 11 and "oh boy".

On top of there being a giant spirit powered laser cannon now we have a kaiju sized mecha appearing out of nowhere. It's reveal seems sloppier than Aang's meeting with that lion turtle.

Been watching the original show again from the beginning. Watching it made me realize what it is I liked about Avatar in the first place -- Unlike most western shows, its aspiration to world building, a more down-to-the-earth and longer expanding story, detailing traits of socialrealism & adventure, much like Japanese animation truly sets it apart. There's a larger emphasis placed on the use of audio, to craft the tension needed for every dramatic situation. The dialogue is also handled with a much more delicacy, leaving room for maturity, where even adolescents can derive enjoyment from the characters, like say Sokka. It's not keeping busy on delivering satire driven by the characters' personality, or adventure driven directly on the consensus western cultural heritage.
It's that rare gem that balances elements from both East and West quite nicely. It's a grand journey, filled with places to see, people to meet, and struggles to unwind. Unlike Korra, it feels more like a big journey, where you actually got to see the world and it allowed you to absorb all of its mysteries to you. It really immerses you into a living, bresthing, world; I think one of my favorite episodes is the one where they go to that library, hidden in a desert -- It had all of the mystic that really bring the show's world to life. Korra is driven more on an approach to mature subject matters, as a focus point, like political unrest and social inequality, and takes the adventuring bit for granted.
I get what they are going for in Korra -- I actually think it's a nice change, but it didn't always quite live up to the standards it set for itself.

Despite that -- I'm sad it is ending, and thus I decided to start from the beginning again and watch it all -- As I've said before.. The Last Airbender & Korra are unique, because they compromise and are willing to take the steps that animation in general should do. Korra went with a female lead which is usually unheard of and I think it's commendable and nice. Do it like Pixar has done, or Miyazaki & Japanese animation, like Batman The Animated Series from the 90's. Tell engaging stories with charismatic characters and living, breathtaking, worlds. If only western animation would take heart a bit more often, in regards to creativity.
I do wonder what Bryan and the rest of the crew are planning on doing next after this.

But anyway, that's all I felt sharing.

Yes it happens

beyond that, I felt a little underwhelmed by the ending, especially Wu and Kuvira, but even Varric and Zhu Li just felt a little empty

I agree with Steel, some parts were pretty underwhelming, but even still, I liked how they actually ended it. And I like that the writers actually went there with those two characters.

I get the feeling that the last few seconds are going to put the thunder into what was an otherwise pretty bland ending. Honestly it felt more like a season ending than a series.

I suppose its time to start hoping someone new gets the rights and will produce it.

Maybe the Korra movie that's been teased since TMNTs lucrative success might do a better job...

Provided it's a sequel to the series of course.

Which would be cool. Since movies that are sequels to their shows are really rare in this day and age for some reason.

Haven't watched the finale, I'll do that tomorrow morning.
