So new episode this Saturday? Glad to hear it.

Agreed. I had to watch The Last Airbender episodes to feel the void left by no new Korra episode.

Ah, good to see I'm not alone. I went with Zuko Alone, the Season Two finale, and the Eclipse Invasion. How about you?

TO NETFLIX! I watched Bato of the Water Tribe and The Deserter from Season 1 last week.

Yes! Freaking Jeong Jeong is such a bamf. I think my favorite scene in that though is when he refuses to teach Aang, only for Roku to manifest himself. "You will teach the Avatar...FIREBENDING".

Lol Roku is such a boss. I also liked Jeong's disappearing act against those other firebenders.

Deal! ...wait, what the hell is a Quatloo? XD

It's from an episode of the original series of Star Trek called "The Gamesters of Triskelion." Kirk gets forced into gladiatorial games by these glowing brains, which bet quatloos on the results. Since they're brains, it's not entirely clear where they keep the quatloos when they win, or what they spend them on.

Ah, I see. I fail in nerdom. :( Never watched the original Trek aside from a random episode here and there. Totally appropriate reference considering the nature of this bet.

It's not really one of the better episodes, either. (If you ask me, the best "aliens force the crew to fight" episode is the one with Space Lincoln.) Still, I do like the word quatloo.

Space Lincoln? O.o I need to watch more of that show someday. Sounds like I'm missing out. :P The word is catchy. I'll give it that.

Holy snickerdoodles on a stick. Great episode. Much better than last week since there was less comedy and more plot.

I guess we know the identity of the guy from Aang's vision now. I knew Pony Tails Man was a manipulative scumbag, but I didn't expect he is wannabe tyrant. I thought he was subtler than that. I disagree with Korra, though. After this episode I got strong vibes Pony Tails Man is a worse villain than Amon. For all of Amon's creepiness and deep faults, the Equalist cause is at least understandable on some level. Pony Tails Man is probably what Ozai could have been if he had more subtlety than a stampeding elephant.

I'm surprised he didn't kill Korra outright. Instead he is choosing to ditch her somewhere? Someone clearly hasn't read The Evil Overlord Handbook.

Also Ikki remains hilarious. Love that character. :)

I enjoyed the extra Meelo in this episode, personally. :P

I didn't get anything out of Meelo's antics. The fart gag was in particular made me want to punch a camel in the face. Okay, maybe not, but it was pretty bad. :P Maybe I just appreciated seeing Korra's shocked face with storms in the background when Ikki revealed her attraction to Mako. Speaking of, nice follow up with Asami looking back at them suspiciously in the rear view mirror.

It was also nice to see Mako throw lightning in battle finally.

Wow. It seems Tarrlok is Republic City's version of Joseph McCarthy.

I like real world parallels; makes the show a lot more intriguing.

Damn, I loved the new episode, plus it had bloodbending which made it better for me because that was the 1st ever episode of TLA I watched, looking forward to seeing how everything makes sense.

Hope some sort of 'one evil against another' fight breaks out between Tarlokk and Amon.

Can't wait to see the eventual showdown between Amon and Tarrlok, especially now that he's exposing his true colors. Anyone else thinking that Tarrlok is somehow related to Yukone though?

Honestly he seems to be heading more toward a hardliner. Mark my words he'll ask for more powers which the others will bend over and give to him and then he'll attempt serfdom on the non benders or some such, become sole ruler for life. Least that seems to be what he's going for. Honeslty it might not be so surprising if he is Amon, though doubtful. I still suspect both of them are no good but to each end of the spectrum, though Tarrlok's heavy handed dealings with the non insurgant population only makes sure of more violence unless he's prepaired to start...seeing the cells go empty so to speak.

Though I suspect Lin will bust Korra's friends out and they'll all go save her and the day..or some such. Though I think some how him, Aang and Amon are all connected somehow in the past. After all I question if the Avatar died a natural death.

Will someone please make a "what is love" gif of Team Avatar in Asami's car?

Korra seems to always be outmatched when she runs into major obstacles. It's kind of disappointing. Aang never had that problem as frequently.

It's starting to get a little old for me too. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that Korra isn't unstoppable; one of my pet peeves in the last Airbender was how Fire Nation soldiers were treated as complete cannon fodder. But here we're seeing the opposite problem: between her encounter with Amon, the first battle with the Equalists, the platinum suits, and now Tarrlok, it's really become about Korra getting beat every week. The only episode we really see anyone kick ass is the Pro-Bending Championship.

I agree that it's getting pretty old, but I just think of how good it'll feel once Korra finally triumphs against the antagonists.

I don't mind that she's losing, since all the people she's faught that've beaten her have been far older, and more experienced benders (or whatever you'd classify Amon as).  Aang was similar after all, sure his air bending was good, but otherwise he was pretty average during book 1.

I'm thinking it's 1 of 3 things;

1) He's doing what the fire nation was going to do with Aang, and keep her alive so he knows where the avatar is.
2) He's still hoping to convert her, or at least use her somehow.
3) He knows better than to attempt to take the avatar's life, becuase that risks triggering the avatar state, and if that happens he's screwed.

Most of Korra's losses make sense. She lost against the first chi blocker she encountered due to ignorance of their abilities. Since that fight has not been shown losing to another in a fair fight. She lost against Amon after dropping her guard and being overwhelmed by surprised attacks. The battle against Hiroshi Sato's mech suits were a calculated trap. That and his suits were specifically designed to combat benders; putting her at a natural disadvantage. Finally, Pony Tails Man won their battle by using blood blending. Korra had no reason to believe he would be capable of it. She even commented on the lack of a full moon to fuel his technique.

I have a feeling Korra will not lose to any of her enemies twice if the way she drops chi blockers and improved at pro bending is any indication.

Aang may have outwitted more foes during the run of his story, but he suffered several crushing defeats along the way. I think AtLA running longer helped the writers balance the win/loss ration too. LoK is a much shorter series. If Korra won against Amon or Pony Tails Man, their role in the story would likely be over; and it is obvious these characters all still have a part to play.

@Ecaiki

1 - He might be arrogant enough to believe he can hold her, I suppose. I doubt he has the resources the Fire Nation royalty could call upon to contain an avatar. We have seen what extremes they reached to prevent imprisoned water and earth benders from calling upon their powers. With Korra they all need to be accounted for to prevent her escape.

2 - I think he gave up on any chance of converting Korra after openly attacking her. At this point I'm not sure he can use her without putting his own schemes at risk. It's possible. I'm just not seeing what use she could have after making a total enemy of her, and having his secret revealed.

3 - Aang was shown being helpless against Pony Tails Man's blood bending in the flashback and he was already a fully realized avatar. Maybe later flashbacks will reveal he broke free and kicked Pony Tails Man's ass. This is the reason I find most acceptable. I can agree with it.
