She didn't seal his chakra, she killed him dead. It's only Katara's timely healing and access to water from the spirit oasis that kept him walking around afterward.Nerevar-as wrote...
Am I the only one who thinks Amon doesn´t remove bending, just seals it? What he does reminds me of when Azula accidentaly sealed Aang´s Avatar state after hitting one of his chakras.

Korra will enter the Avatar state for the first time when Amon tries to take away her bending.
And here comes the big unexpected shocking twist: Amon will still take away Korra's bending even when Korra is in the Avatar state.

Oh goddammit that episode broke my heart, especially Lin sacrificing herself like that. And I'll just go with the most logical choice that General Iroh is Zuko's son as a) Same teen voice andZuko liked Iroh.
Welp looking forward to the finale then, hoping it will be spectacular. I get the impression Asami will sell out the gang out of jealousy or something, seems a bit generic but hey anything could go I guess.
God, I hope not. Asami joining the Equalists just because of relationship problems would be bad writing on Bryke's part.

That's how they introduced it, but it's not the reason. He had to meet with a guru to teach him how to unlock his blocked chakra (the heart) which was preventing him from reaching the avatar state, not losing to Azula.
He couldn´t go Avatar until Ozai hit him in the same spot, so I think Azula´s lightning was the reason, Aang could go Avatar involuntarily before meeting the guru, yet after the fight with Azula he never did until the ending despite some hard fights. The way I understood that episode, Aang had already opened the heart chakra (Goodbye Katara) and did transform of his own will, then Azula hit him.
I´m also having trouble believing they´ll depower so many characters permanently.

Found the relevant quotes on the IMDB, anyway:
Guru Pathik: Learn to let her go. Or you cannot let the pure cosmic energy flow in from the universe.
Aang: Why would I choose pure cosmic energy over Katara? How could it be a bad thing that I feel an attachment to her? Three chakras ago that was a good thing!
Guru Pathik: You must learn to let go.
Toph: So what's your strategy for taking him down? Gonna get your glow on and hit him with a little Avatar State action?
Aang: I can't. When Azula shot me with lightning, my seventh chakra was locked, cutting off my connection to all the cosmic energy in the universe.
Toph: You know what I just heard? Blah blah spiritual mumbo jumbo blah blah something about space.
I had thought that Aang was telling the gospel truth when I heard the second quote there the first time, and it was all a result of "dying." I think now that he'd opened the chakra momentarily or incompletely, and thus enabled that brief rise in a voluntary avatar state, but failed to really detach himself from his feelings for Katara as Guru Pathik wanted him to do. So, in order not to embarrass himself in front of the gang, he was fibbing about why he can't do it.
Fighting Ozai, I think it was just life-threatening danger again - with the emotional prod of pain in the scar from being killed by Azula.

Let me look up the Eps time line to see if I'm right, but I think he failed the training to start with, took a bolt of lightning to the chest, then redid the training and finished it.
Could be wrong though, all I know for sure is a lightning bolt did drop his ass.

He was voluntarily activating the avatar state when Azula killed him. Dying was supposed to remove it forever according to Roku.Confess-A-Bear wrote...

Activating isn't the same as Controlling, reguardless Roku was obviously wrong, or makybe he gaver her up to activate it, something along those lines, point is the SeaLionTurtle Island fixed whatever was broke.
Actully I'm postive thats what happend.
He ran off, but then when his girl was about to die, he gave her up, finishing the training, while transforming got a bolt of lightning for his troubles. Saved by Katara, had the Avatar door shut, till that turtlte island helped him.

I don't think it was ever outright stated in canon that this was a technique only the avatar could do. It was a technique that only Aang (and an anomalous no-place lion turtle) actually knew, but that's not precisely the same thing.android654 wrote...
Aang's different though. He's a god. The physical embodiment of nature as a whole. It makes sense that the source of a benders power can remove it, but Amon isn't the avatar. He could only be doing this in a way that's different from Aang's method.

Its possible the Lion Turtle Island could have taught Amon. Its more stupid that either if he just learned it himself.
Which is why I think it's plausible that he's not human at all. I still have a suspicion that he's Koh.
