The Avatar is pretty much inherently good natured and altruistic, even if they have to learn it. They're supposedly the world's spirit incarnate so they can never be corrupt.
Anyway saw the finale a while ago and I suppose they did an okay job with Amon even if I'd rather he be different and more in line with what he said he was. Still they could have painted his backstory a little better than a 10-minute exposition dump with none of the revelations foreshadowed at all in the 11th hour.
Korra instantly getting her powers back in the same episode and reversing Lin's isn't a good way to resolve the twist and really threw away any lasting consequences into the next season. Lin's sacrifice was rendered meaningless in multiple ways as it is. A message of hope at the end with their powers still gone would have been much more impactful, I think. It would be something for the next season at least.
Come to think of it there doesn't seem to be anything leading to the next season, which is weird. We're ultimately left with no overarching goal.
I also find it strange how Nickelodeon is so scared to kill people that they obnoxiously go out of their way several times to show an enemy jumping or parachuting to safety, yet overtly showed Tarlok commit what appeared to be a murder-suicide with his brother. Consistency?
Overall I can't say I'm impressed with this show so far. I like the style and characters (except Mako and especially Tenzin's crude, annoying son), but I've seen better storytelling even in shows for younger audiences.
