Indeed. I wish the suits at Nickelodeon would have just assumed it was going to be well recieved despite some noticeable differences with the setting and the female protagonist. That mindset would've most likely guaranteed a couple more episodes for this first season from the start so some of the issues would have been lessened or eliminated.spirosz wrote...
I still don't get why they had that mindset of writing it as a "finale" of sorts. It's not like they didn't have a massive fanbase from the original series. I saw the reasons why, from the earlier pages, but I just don't like it and I hope it doesn't mess up some of future seasons, since I see it having great potential.

ATLA is quite a different series and I'm not just talking about the setting. While it did touch on universal themes that can be enjoyed by different age groups it was still (mainly) a show for kids, where the protagonists were kids themselves. Korra's focus is now on teenagers and, naturally, the protagonists are teens themselves. Its first season revolves around love triangles that you can find on most teen romance stories. It's also a lot grimmer, focusing on the growing conflict between benders and non-benders and the lengths to which both groups will go to preserve or upturn the status quo (much like BioShock Infinite). That scene where Korra meets Tahno after he's lost his bending ability... that was raw. You can see Tahno has pretty much lost the will to live and Korra worries throughout the season how it would affect her. So, yes, it's a pity that season two won't focus on how Korra deals with losing her bending abilities since she could use a lesson or two in humility.
My point is that Korra is a different series that perhaps the fans from ATLA won't enjoy as much.

I do not believe that at all. Think about it, the original show came out in 2005, if kids were watching it then, they've must of grown up with it. I agree that the target auidence is different and the setting is set out to be more more mature, in that sense, but I personally started watching ATLA when I was 16 and I've seen it about three times since then and each time I've enjoyed it even more than the last time. I truly believe that the series has a big fanbase, that doesn't just fall under the category of "kids" - that was also the great thing about the show as well, any age, anyone could watch it and enjoy it and I don't believe Korra is any different, nor do I believe that the target audience that originally watched ATLA on T.V wouldn't like Korra as well. The thing about the series that appeals to me the most, is the universe that was created and that universe is no differerent, it's just a different era, but the fundamentals that made it great, are still there - so I believe that would still be a great selling point.
ATLA, even if targeted at a younger age group, had a lot of symbolic instances that can be seen as "mature" for that age group, that can relates to it being more than just a "kid" show and I know you're not arguing that aspect, I just don't believe fans of the original would be swayed away just because the main characters are an older group, especially in relation with kids growing up with the show and Korra coming out a few years later, they wouldn't be young either.

Never said it did. I did say, however, that the target audience was kids but the themes are universal so that any age group will be able to enjoy it, if with different perspectives.
Well, that's what I think the execs who greenlit the show must've thought. In truth though, twelve episodes is a normal run, at least for a first season of a live action show.

She does look similar, doesn't she?
Possible love interest for Bolin? Similar to Sokka and the Moon Spirit?

That DVD cover art looks a bit plain. Still, I like that Korra is shown doing something active rather than posed passively, as is often the case with lady characters in art.
