This means Korra will come in the fall as well but probably a month or two earlier perhaps? I mean fall is a full season.

I'd rather they take their time with it and at least have more episodes than Season 1. That was my main complaint since I found certain pacing issues developed because of developing Season 1 like it was going to be the only season for the series.

My only gripes with Season 1 (that I can remember) was the pointless love triangle/quadrangle, the fact that they explained Amon's entire backstory in the last episode, and that they wasted an incredible opportunity for Korra to recover her powers in Season 2.

Agreed.
I'm looking forward to Season 2, but so far Korra seems less epic in scope than the Last Airbender. Admittedly, it's not a Save the World Style plot, so that's bound to happen, but with Season 1 closing off all plot threads I'm wondering if all four Seasons will be disconnected from each other.
