Anyway, my money is on Varrick having hired the Agni Kais to bomb the Southern Cultural Center in order to make the Northerners seems like villains. Maybe even those two policemen.
BTW, did that last scene feel disconnected to anyone else? Was Korra playing to cross the whole ocean separating Republic City and the Fire Nation on that little boat? And how did the twins find her?

As to the bombing, I'm certain it was Varric or some unknown third part thriving on the chaos.
Mako and Korra breaking up will probably be for the best, though I half wonder if the writers just did it to build a better case for it as the show goes on.

It's not that long of a trip from republic city to fire nation terrioty, she just needs to get to one of the outer islands and find a ship. Going all the way from the South would have been more problematic. No idea how the twins manage to track her down though.MisterJB wrote...

This video has new significance after the last episode.
Oh I also forgot to mention before and again spoiler alert:
You guys remember the Unalaq saying he told Korra what he thought she needed to hear in regards to the Northern spirit gate? That line gave me the feeling there might be more to this civil war than just a guy using the spirits to try and grab power. His focusing security on the spirit gate and disregarding the rebels he was desperate to lock up in the last episode, it's like he was trying to provoke Korra into action for some reason, makes me think it's the civil war that might be a smokescreen for whatever plans he has regarding the spirits. He's either a man with complex motivations or just a really dumb villian who can't even spell motivation. Hoping for the former, come on show don't let me down!

Their breakup seems to be just fodder for an "emotional" get together again after Korra gets out of the Spirit.Lord Aesir wrote...

I'm hoping they stay broken up, not because I dislike the pairing but I am in favor of bucking trends when it comes to this sort of writing.
Official Steelcan Prediction.
"Korra and Mako get back together after Korra gets out of the Spirit World or wherever she is."
(Similar to how Mako reacted when she was abducted by Tarrloq.)

Naaaaaah.
Anyway, did anyone notice that the animation was kinda uneven ? Stellar in the fight scenes, but the talking heads... man... that Iroh was just painful.

I'm quoting a small part of TV.com's review:
First and foremost, "Peacekeepers" was just a remarkably bad-looking episode. Studio Pierrot's work has steadily declined over the course of five episode, drifting away from the Studio Mir style to their own particular style of animation, and on the lower end of what they're capable of, too. It's about on the same level as the filler-arc animation you'd find in some of Pierrot's other shows. It's stiff and un-detailed, and it's obvious which choices they made regarding where to spend their time. Arriving at Republic City? Not a whole lot of effort. Korra and Mako breaking up? It actually looked decent.

Mako breaking up with Korra was awesome, just seeing Korra's face deflate after being a jumped up little **** was satisfying, I only wished that Mako didn't say "Yes, I'm breaking up with you" but more "get out!".
I can't stand irrationality, but understandable due to Korra's family situation.

Like I've said before, Korra and Asami should get together. It's like they were practically made for each other. I mean, they're both strong and independent women so I don't see why it can't work out.Greylycantrope wrote...

I find it telling that out of everyone on team Korra, Asami was the only character to come out of book one worse than where she started. Korra defeated Amon, unlocked the Avatar state, and got her dream guy. Lin got her powers, officers, and job back. Mako got to act like a tool and still end up with Korra. While Bolin was... Bolin. Finally, Tenzin got to keep his family together and see the end of turmoil he feared would ruin Republic City.
Asami was callously dumped by Mako. Then her father tried to kill her. Then she inherited Future Industries as it fell into financial ruin as a result of Sato's role in Amon's coup. She starts off with everything and loses most of it in the span of months. No happy victory for her. But Asami doesn't cry after every misstep or lash out in barely restrained rage when things don't go her way like Korra does. The worst I can say about Asami was that she acted a bit snotty toward Mako after suspecting he had feelings for Korra. That's not too bad considering her suspicions were absolutely vindicated.
Korra could barely stand her father being a little secretive and overprotective. Her brain would probably implode if he tried to kill her.
In short, I think Asami deserves better than Korra. Which is why I'll never agree with shipping those two. >.<
---
On the subject of animation, I have noticed it take a dip this season. I guess it hasn't bothered me much since it's something I'm used to after watching so much anime. It was hard not to notice the difference in detail on Lin's face when comparing her reintroduction early on to her appearance after Korra stormed off.

Some thoughts:
I loved the return to Republic City. Seeing Mako do his job as a detective and watching him get hazed by the older guys for walking in on Bei Fong was amusing.
I'm finding Korra increasingly unlikable this Season. Where in Season 1, her hot-headedness served to distinguish her from Aang and made her out to be a more pro-active Avatar, with Season 2 she only seems to be getting herself into increasingly problematic situations. For once, I actually liked watching Mako stick it to her for her actions.
I loved everything with the Bolin/Varrick storyline, absolutely hilarious. Especially loved watching Bolin rouse the crowd everytime he said something odd. "Republic City! Fans!"
Finally, I think this episode confirmed my thoughts that Deska/Eska are completely bland characters. It's a shame, because their character design is so cool/mysterious, but their entire plot function centers around the Eska-Bolin "Romance", which was never more than a gag.

I know how you feel, I'm glad Mako stood his ground and did not act like a child, he did what was expected of him, even if it was hard choice.
Eska is just disappointing, Azula #2.

Hey now, don't insult Azula like that. XD Azula had an actual background, underdeveloped as it was compared to Zuko's story. She was also clever and manipulative. All we know about Eska is she's antisocial and possessive. >.>
Not insulting her, I'm comparing her psychotic behaviour to Azula's, both happen to follow their father without question which also includes attacking a family member: Azula with Zuko and Desna/Eska with Korra.
Azula was awesome yeah, but coming back for round 2 reincarnated as Eska? No thank you.
