Fair points. I guess Eska comes off as a weaker character to me despite those similarities.

It feels like Eska and Bolin's relationship was a joke that turned serious for some reason.

This is still one of the best episodes of the Korra series.

Seriously, I'm loving the politics of this series. Does anyone else agree that the political intrigue of the season is it's strong-suit? Because right now, that's one of the best things about this show and it really makes it stand out from the previous series. Also, Mako is actually getting more interesting and it's good that she actually told the truth regardless of his relationship with Korra. I like the integrity.

Of course, in terms of character quality, Varrick, Bolin, Tenzin, Lin, and Asami surpass everyone else in the show.

Asami4eva. XD I can agree the political aspects are fun to watch now that the foreshadowing is slightly less obvious. The intrigue has been far too telegraphed so far. I think book two also suffers from the fights being sub par compared to last year. Book one had beautiful action sequences. Like the first time Korra encountered chi blockers. The animation, music, and choreography in that scene were flawless. They set the mood perfectly.

I think what last Friday's episode demonstrated more than anything is how much more interesting Republic City is than the south pole. At least to me. >.<

Absolutely agreed. I'm actually surprised because Book Two fell into the exact trap that I was expecting: greater emphasis on spirit monsters, as opposed to martial arts experts/benders.

When I think to the best action sequences in both Airbender and Korra, I think of Korra vs. Tarrlok, Zuko vs. Azula, etc. They tend to have the best, most elegant choreography.

Spirit monsters/giant animals just don't make for interesting fight sequences (imo).

Finally felt like watching this latest episode and I've come to the realization that Korra is a pretty garbage avatar in terms of fighting ability. The term "mastered" must be very loose considering Korra supposedly "mastered" earth, fire, and water bending. Maybe it's her power over precision style but she seems to be inferior to any bender that's using the same bending as she is. The only way she wins is by switching to an element that gives her the advantage so she can overpower, or by overpowering her opponent(s) with the avatar state. She's a legit scrub compared to Aang.

I agree, this episode kicked ass.  I'm a bit late, but I just watched 3,4 and 5 and I'm really enjoying it so far.  I love the themes of family issues getting tied in, Bolin is becoming one of my favourites and I'm really loving the score so far.  There are some very predictable parts so far, but otherwise, I'm loving it.

Interesting twist in this last episode. There was enough foreshadowing that I started expecting it after episode 5, but seeing it confirmed shines a new light on the water tribe conflict, and on what Unalaq might be defending the spirit portal against.

Best episode of this book so far. I don't think there was moment where I felt bored or annoyed. Sad to say the near absence of Korra may have factored into that. She's suffering memory loss now? I'm not sure what to make of that. :/

I won't say Varrick being a two-faced manipulator is entirely shocking, but they were much subtler about shifting him into that role than Unalaq. I really hope this doesn't turn into an Unalaq really has noble intentions, and was totally misrepresented whilst Varrick is the true antagonist thing. Still, endearing the audience to a villain while making someone else ambiguous yet distasteful is clever enough. At the very least it retroactively redeems the main plot a little. XD Korra's characterization, not so much, but nothing's perfect.

All in all I liked this one. Not much I feel like complaining about even where it was weakest.

Tonight's episode was pretty good. Focusing on the political intrigue between Carrick, Asami, and the factions in the civil war for most of the show was a good idea.

It worries me because it's too tidy. It comes off as if the only way they knew to bring Korra back down to earth was by making her someone else for a while. There are so many less trite ways Korra could be forced to gain perspective. Time will tell if it works out that way in practice. It's a minor quibble, though; and wouldn't even make my list of top ten book two peeves.

Asami kissing Mako was much worse. They're *really* returning to the Korra/Asami/Mako love triangle? *Really*? I'm not saying Asami is unentitled to emotional support, but bleh... didn't like it. XD Tap a new well writers. Please. >.<

Ah, called it! Called on Varrick having paid the Agni Kais.
On the other hand, I did not see him buying a dominant piece of Future Industries coming which was why I was actually not sure who was the person behind the scenes for most of the episode; it seemed to me he really was only trying to stop Northern expansion.
I think focusing on the political intrigue really made the show come alive. My only peeve in this episode was, like Seagloom, the return to the Mako/Asami/Korra triangle. Damn it, we've been over this.
Given the preview where we could see Bolin and Asami looking gloom together, I'm guessing Mako will return to Korra and Bolin and Asami will get together. Which actually might be a pity because Mako and Asami work a lot better on screen than Mako and Korra ever did.

Oh and excuse me for a moment.
Fire Nation! Fire Nation! Fire Nation! YES!

I have to say I did not foresee Varrick being quite that manipulative. I doubt he'll be a main villain, or atleast I hope they'll go for something other than the "evil businessman" routine. He seems more an opportunist than a chessmaster.

Unsure about the Mako/Asami thing. I don't mind it so much as I mind them retreading old ground if it really is their intention to have him get back together with Korra.

I don't mind the memory loss thing, though seeing Korra not moaning about her authority issues for awhile will be a nice break.

I, for one, was very offended. Bolin is not even Water Tribe, much less Southerner. This is clearly a case of Earthwashing.

Best I can say of this episode is that Asami got some air time and Mako's becoming a character. However, I think it was very OOC for Lin to outright dismiss Mako's theory without at least hearing him out. Now with Varrick having been revealed as an evil mastermind I suppose we're left with showing Unalaq as a benevolent soul.

Also, points to Bolin for sticking it to Mako.

And Asami shouldn't get together with Mako, not before they discuss how he stood her up and switched her for Korra. I expect Asami to at least punch him.

I'm in love with this series. Here hoping that someday someone will make an RPG of it... Imagine if we could create our own avatar from scratch, BioWare style and playing in that world, exploring it and meeting new characters, new events, find love interests and shape a dynasty on our own... ... ... Ahhh... *sighs*

It's called Jade Empire and its writing is better than LoK's.

So what? This doesn't mean LoK and the Avatar world don't have the potential. Jade Empire is done and their writers are not planning anything in that world for now.

Aang wakes up after being frozen for 100 years and remembers everything.

Korra wakes up after a few days and remembers nothing (except how to bend).

To be fair, Aang didn't get eaten by a giant dark spirit. I'm still wondering if Unaloq is possessed by Koh the face-stealer or another evil spirit.

People, the Avatar included aren't supposed to enter and exit the spirit world except for specific periods of time like the Winter and Summer Solstices. Having a permanent gateway like the spirit portal could seriously upset the natural order.
