Seriously, I'm loving the politics of this series. Does anyone else agree that the political intrigue of the season is it's strong-suit? Because right now, that's one of the best things about this show and it really makes it stand out from the previous series. Also, Mako is actually getting more interesting and it's good that she actually told the truth regardless of his relationship with Korra. I like the integrity.
Of course, in terms of character quality, Varrick, Bolin, Tenzin, Lin, and Asami surpass everyone else in the show.

I think what last Friday's episode demonstrated more than anything is how much more interesting Republic City is than the south pole. At least to me. >.<

Asami4eva. XD I can agree the political aspects are fun to watch now that the foreshadowing is slightly less obvious. The intrigue has been far too telegraphed so far. I think book two also suffers from the fights being sub par compared to last year. Book one had beautiful action sequences. Like the first time Korra encountered chi blockers. The animation, music, and choreography in that scene were flawless. They set the mood perfectly.

Absolutely agreed. I'm actually surprised because Book Two fell into the exact trap that I was expecting: greater emphasis on spirit monsters, as opposed to martial arts experts/benders.
When I think to the best action sequences in both Airbender and Korra, I think of Korra vs. Tarrlok, Zuko vs. Azula, etc. They tend to have the best, most elegant choreography.
Spirit monsters/giant animals just don't make for interesting fight sequences (imo).

This is still one of the best episodes of the Korra series.

I agree, this episode kicked ass. I'm a bit late, but I just watched 3,4 and 5 and I'm really enjoying it so far. I love the themes of family issues getting tied in, Bolin is becoming one of my favourites and I'm really loving the score so far. There are some very predictable parts so far, but otherwise, I'm loving it.

I won't say Varrick being a two-faced manipulator is entirely shocking, but they were much subtler about shifting him into that role than Unalaq. I really hope this doesn't turn into an Unalaq really has noble intentions, and was totally misrepresented whilst Varrick is the true antagonist thing. Still, endearing the audience to a villain while making someone else ambiguous yet distasteful is clever enough. At the very least it retroactively redeems the main plot a little. XD Korra's characterization, not so much, but nothing's perfect.
All in all I liked this one. Not much I feel like complaining about even where it was weakest.

She's suffering memory loss now? I'm not sure what to make of that. :/
Maybe it's a good thing, she might learn something from it

Asami kissing Mako was much worse. They're *really* returning to the Korra/Asami/Mako love triangle? *Really*? I'm not saying Asami is unentitled to emotional support, but bleh... didn't like it. XD Tap a new well writers. Please. >.<

On the other hand, I did not see him buying a dominant piece of Future Industries coming which was why I was actually not sure who was the person behind the scenes for most of the episode; it seemed to me he really was only trying to stop Northern expansion.
I think focusing on the political intrigue really made the show come alive. My only peeve in this episode was, like Seagloom, the return to the Mako/Asami/Korra triangle. Damn it, we've been over this.
Given the preview where we could see Bolin and Asami looking gloom together, I'm guessing Mako will return to Korra and Bolin and Asami will get together. Which actually might be a pity because Mako and Asami work a lot better on screen than Mako and Korra ever did.
Oh and excuse me for a moment.

Unsure about the Mako/Asami thing. I don't mind it so much as I mind them retreading old ground if it really is their intention to have him get back together with Korra.
I don't mind the memory loss thing, though seeing Korra not moaning about her authority issues for awhile will be a nice break.

Also, points to Bolin for sticking it to Mako.
And Asami shouldn't get together with Mako, not before they discuss how he stood her up and switched her for Korra. I expect Asami to at least punch him.

I'm in love with this series. Here hoping that someday someone will make an RPG of it... So what? This doesn't mean LoK and the Avatar world don't have the potential. Jade Empire is done and their writers are not planning anything in that world for now.

People, the Avatar included aren't supposed to enter and exit the spirit world except for specific periods of time like the Winter and Summer Solstices. Having a permanent gateway like the spirit portal could seriously upset the natural order.
