What happened to the previous thread? Anyway, Wan's battle was awesome.
It's the same thread but the OP modified the title and the first post.

Couldn't help myself. I was actually looking for a screen grab of the very end with Korra flying off (really Naga better make a return soon) but I swear the island in the last shot looks just like the Lion Turtle island Aang was on.
I very much liked the episode and the art style was a excellent fit. I was worried when they would get around to the origins of the Avatar they would drop the ball but I do like being wrong.

I would still like to know what energy-bending is all about. Must be even before Wan's time.
I'm not sure if we even have to go before that. The Lion Turtles are shown to both take away and give bending. I could see that being what they taught Aang.

I don't have much of substance to add since nearly everything that came to mind has already been mentioned by someone else. Spirited Away influence? Check. I totally got a Hayao Miyazaki vibe throughout, and thought of that film specifically. Feeling the awesome when Wan + Raava fused and kicked Vaatu's ass? Totally. That was the first time I came near tears since the final scene of LoK book one. It was just beautiful in all its emotional manipulation. "We are bonded forever" may have been the most moving line in that entire series for me because of all it meant on several levels. I also wondered if that island Korra flew over was the lion turtle from AtLA.
There were a few plot contrivances, but I found it hard to care in light of everything else. Pretty much how I felt about LoK's season one and AtLA's series finale. It's like yeah, I could nitpick but I'm not going to 'cause it was all *that* awesome.
The only truly bad part of these episodes was when we got back to Korra at the end.
I'm curious though... I thought the original benders were all non-humans? The moon for water, badger moles for earth, dragons for fire, and sky bison for air? This story implies they were powers granted by the lion turtles instead. I would've expected humans to gain those powers from the original benders, or spiritual incarnations of those beings. Ah well, all in all good stuff.

Didn't Naga appear in Bolin's Nuktuk programs?
No that was some Snow Panda thing or something. Maybe Naga painted up?
It does show Wan and the Dragon and the Moles clearly earthbend so maybe it was more of learning from them or to make bending a more natural part of themselves? Or even a combination of that and losing the history of the Lion Turtle cities.

As to Naga, yes, I believe she had eye makeup. I'm almost positive it was her with Bolin.

Also, are the Lion Turtles even before the "spirits" time? It seemed like Raava was "answering" to a Lion Turtle - when she said specifically "Ancient One".
Did Wan energy bend at the end there? To become one with Raava? And I recognize that tree from the one Tenzin's daughter found, back in the Air temple, interesting.
One more thing, was that a Lion Turtle in the water when Korra was flying away? Seemed like the one that guided Aang.

Well, remember that one scene of Wan training his fire bending with a dragon in the background? I think maybe the lion turtles granted the power of bending, but the non-human sources taught the humans how to use them properly.Seagloom wrote...

I missed the badger moles earthbending. Only so much I can catch in one viewing, I guess. >.< I do remember Wan practicing firebending forms with that dragon, so I guess it makes sense enough.
No that's not in that episode but in the original series with Toph and the lovers cave I think it is.
I didn't really think about it until you mentioned so maybe its a hole or something yet to be explained. 10,000 years is a long time and the time of the lion turtles is a lost history.
Which I am curious as to why the animals are clearly of a higher intelligence.

That is exactly how I see it. In my mind, you have to be "born with the essence" of a specific bending style, but unless you learn it from a teacher or in Toph's case it's 'Original Source' - Badger, Moon, etc - nothing would of happened and now that we have people who have learned, we can know learn from the teachers themselves- it's basically passed on. The original essence came from Lion Turtles and it goes on from there.
That is how I view it.
