Will she go full retard like last time to make Mako look good? I don't have problems with Mako being shown as a competent detective, Lin going full retard bugged the hell out of me though. As well as being under utilized in the story period.

I think we can all agree on this. Lin was a great character in Book One and I hope she returns in Book Three. I don't know who that was in Book Two.

Does anyone else think that Vatu isn't such a bad guy?

I'm not even sure of his objectives besides wanting to be out and about so...yeah. I'm kinda thinking along those lines. Then again, maybe he wanted to terrorize humanity for the lulz and I forgot. But if it's basically the former then yeah.

I mean, we hear that he is the one that bridged the Spirit and Material world originally, allowing the spirits to visit at all.

Sure, if he wins the Alignment, he will likely destroy he world as we know to today... but it seems like when he is in charge, there are some things that change for the better in the meantime.

Well, that's an interesting thought? Perhaps it would've made more sense if the order were changed to "it seems like when he is in charge, there are some things that change for the better in the meantime, [but] if he wins the Alignment, he will likely destroy he world as we know to today."

I could potentially get behind his goal of merging the two realms if he didn't go about it in such a villainesque fashion. This includes maniacal laughter, taunting the protagonists on a regular basis, and just the general impression that he enjoys causing pain/misery, rather than viewing his actions as some part of the greater good, compared to Watchmen's Ozymandias (for example).

Edit: And thinking about it a tad more, his actions during the Avatar Wan episodes make this out to be even worse. Take when he attacks the Air bender lion turtle. I'm not sure what that was meant to achieve except to turn the spirits dark and cause trouble.

I guess he is just an agent of chaos. Breaking down the barriers between the worlds blurs the lines of order in reality. Destruction and death are also forms of chaos.

However, Ravva is also a bit haughty and controlling when we first meet her, so I'd say Vatu getting released/causing mischief every once in a while keeps things from getting stale.

Sorry, I'm still trying to get the images from the last 5 minutes of S02x13 and onwards out of my mind.

I'll just give you the short version: When they missed yet another opportunity to make an interesting villain (another avatar opposing Korra with half the nations backing him? Yes please!) and start a multi season arc (really seemed they were going to pull off an Empire Strikes Back up until the transformation) by resolving everything in stupid ways (let's just say everything that happens when the Dark Avatar turned out to be a kaiju shooting Reaper beams and don't even start with Deus Ex Jinora).

Well, let's be honest, they botched the entire plot with Unalaq from the get go. Personally, I prefer they didn't pursue the "Dark Avatar" plot but I would've been intrigued if somehow Vaatu had fused with Raava inside Korra (instead of pulling that "I hit you a couple of times and sever your connection with all your past selves"). Book 3 could have then been about Korra trying to find balance between these two forces.

And, yes, I don't know what that was with Jinora. I hope they explain it in Book 3.

It's a children show at heart with a significant older periphery demographic, so I'm cutting it a lot of slack. The moustache twirling didn't really bother me at all. The anti-climatic resolution in (originally planned as standalone) S1 could have been the result of the unexpected interest and renewal for 3 another seasons. I just can't find any explanation to the last two episodes in S2 other than making a new status quo which will allow them to tell the story they really want to tell.

We will see. I'm not on the edge of my seat though.

You make a very good point. I was kinda harsh on the writing while watching it, but I forgot that its mainly a children's show. Thanks for pointing that out! :)

I do think though that the character writing can be criticised - I mean, Lin for example, or the way how they handled Mako. Asami deserves alot beter then to be used as some rebound girl - only to be thrown away as soon as Korra falls for Mako again and then gets to be the rebound girl again.

She and Korra both deserve beter.

Well, yeah she kinda is an idiot, but I don't think Mako deserves her either :P

My favorite route would be to ship Asami with Iroh Man and let Korra stay single.

The Legend of Aang is not yet over!

Part 1 of "The Rift" was released yesterday, both on paperback and digital formats. Unfortunately, the story may not be quite what we were hoping for:

Avatar Aang asks his friends to help him honor Yangchen's Festival - one of the highest Air Nomad holidays, which hasn't been celebrated in over one hundred years. But cryptic visits from the spirit of Avatar Yangchen herself lead Aang to discover a jointly owned Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom refinery - operating on land sacred to the Airbenders! Is this the cause of the pollution Aang finds there or is something more mysterious happening?

Has Team Avatar taken up the role of the Planeteers now?
