Hmmmm....invisibility? Like, they actually turn into Air?

Eh, Opal actuallys looks like the regular avatar character wherin Asami actually looks quite unique imo.
Like who? What does that even mean? What defines a "regular Avatar character"? She looks nothing like any character I've ever seen in the show so far. Her design perfectly reflects her disposition, and it draws a nice picture of a young, sweet and capable character. If we are going to be overly critical then I'd go as far as saying that Asami's design is a blatant rip-off of Lust.

Maybe the abilitiy to create cold and hot air without having to fire or waterbend? ![]()

So....temperature control, more or less?
Yeah, that's what I had in mind.
She looks like her mother and Lin
Well, I'd sure hope so. You mean like how Asami looks exactly like her mother with her Father's eyes??

Opal's design is evidently distinct from her mother and Lin (she doesn't really look that much like Lin, due to different blood ties obviously), in the same fashion that Bumi, Tenzin & Kya have their own distinctions without looking like Aang or Katara completely. But again, how does this qualify her looks as "typical Avatar"?
Opal's looks more polished than most of the character designs I've seen and it mixes quite well with her characterization.
Doesn't look like her mother.
Because I like to say that whenever someone claims Asami is a rip-off of Lust when they actually don't look alike. ![]()
She does indeed look like her mother, whom incidentally looks even more like Lust -- Bryan Konietzko, the artist, said that he'd own up to the influence actually, so take that for what you will.
I will! Still not seeing it ![]()
Edit: Oh, something I think you forgot to mention: "Although having designed her before watching the anime series Fullmetal Alchemist, Bryan Konietzko stated he was fine with saying that Asami's design was influenced by Lust "
How can one design a character based on influence when he hasn't even watched the part that influenced him yet?
Food for thought!

The lipstick colour is the same -- There's a clear similarity between her mother here and Lust's design.
With the main exception of different coloured eyes for Asami, the similarity, influence or what have you, is very much clear.
Oh her mother looks like Lust alright. But I'm not seeing it in Asami.
Oh her mother looks like Lust alright. But I'm not seeing it in Asami.
It's easier to note the similarities there because her mother is squinting her eyes in that shot -- If there were pictures of similar poses then the blatant similarities would be easier to point out. The real difference between them is the eye colour and the obvious styles of clothing of course. Anyway, the main point of this discussion is essentially gone now, so think what you will but the similarities are there. It's not like it's a bad thing either but her design isn't any more distinct or unique than anybody elses in the show, really.

I disagree, but sure.
If we really think about it Airbenders could do a lot of sick stuff.
Like Ripping the air out of peoples lungs, maybe even be able to create a vacuum by manipulating air pressure.
If only they weren't pacifist monks. Sigh, the possibilities...
Well, I was kind of worried about how they would tackle this particular episode about Lin and her sister but I must admit I loved it. As a matter of fact, I liked it better than episode 307. I was a bit taken aback by Lin's transformation much like Korra, Bolin and Mako were, so I was glad when Lin herself put the brakes on Suyin's proposal. And it has occurred to me Suyin was lucky Lin wasn't fully recovered when they fought or the outcome would have been a lot different.

However, I would have liked to have seen Bolin master metalbending in this episode but I guess they're leaving that for the inevitable battle with Zaheer and his cohort in Zaofu.
So far, this evil foursome's story is utterly underdeveloped as are their plans and motivations. I suspect they will end up making the same mistake they did in Book One when they left the entire exposition dump about Amon's background till the last couple of episodes. They could have at least explained what they had hoped to achieve by killing the President and why they ultimately decided not to but, no, we got nothing. To make matters worse, Zaheer keeps finding new powers to make him even more overpowered than he already is. Now, besides being an airbending master, he can also magically read the episode's script to find Korra's location. I'm not entirely sure why they bothered to go to Republic City then since Korra hasn't been there in a long while.
I did notice Asami's absence in episode 306 as well as Mako's. Even though the latter had one scene, they were remarkably inconspicuous. The writers could have easily thrown Asami's lot in with Varrick whose single appearance was meant to draw some laughs and re-introduce the concept of magnets which we were already familiar with from Hiroshi Sato's (Asami's father) own work in Book One.

And then we had episode 307. I didn't particularly like it a lot, especially with Tenzin being such a hardass, but I do believe it's an episode we need to have, particularly if the air nation is to fight the Earth Queen's army at some point. Remember those episodes in Book Two where we saw Tonraq recruiting troops against Unalaq, raiding supplies, sabotaging outposts and the like? Oh, right, there were none, and it's a mistake the writers don't seem keen on repeating. It's an episode that continues to explore the dynamics of Tenzin's family, mostly his relationship with Jinora. It's a pity the rest of the kids don't get as much screentime, especially not now what with Jinora's budding romance with Aang Kai. I did like the practical explanation as to why airbenders shave their heads. ![]()

Episode 307 was an okay episode but certainly not one that needed to follow Episode 306, not when it's entirely self-contained. I would have instead aired together both episodes about Lin's relationship with her sister and left 307 for another week. With half a season under our belt already (mathematically speaking it's a bit more than half but who cares) I'm both excited and preoccupied. I'm excited because, so far, this season beats the crap out of Book Two (except for Beginnings which is my favourite episode in the series by far) and is everything the Avatar series should be about. The new locations and characters have given the show a Change (get it?) it sorely needed, not to mention Lin's character is getting the attention it should've had in Book Two. I am, however, preoccupied by how many threads are left unresolved. We still know nothing about Zaheer or his plans, how the spirits came to inhabit Republic City and little else, whether or not there's even a way to handle that problem, the details on the Earth Queen's plans for expansion, where Toph went and when she will choose to make her reappearance, what are Zuko's plans for recapturing Zaheer and company, what will Varrick ultimately come up with, to mention a few.
Still, there's half a season left to go and the writers have yet to disappoint us with Book Three so I'm hopeful. ![]()
Oh, I almost forgot, episode 307 did feature the return of the Melon Lords:

And the end result worked all the better as a result. I also liked it a great deal more than the second episode, as nice as it was.As a matter of fact, I liked it better than episode 307. And it has occurred to me Suyin was lucky Lin wasn't fully recovered when they fought or the outcome would have been a lot different.
I'd give it time. Who's to say it isn't intentional via the writers? They may be saving it for a later date on purpose. Or at least that's my take.So far, this evil foursome's story is utterly underdeveloped as are their plans and motivations.
Yep. I already knew how that route was going to turn out with tenzin, but I get the necessity. Self-contained isn't necessarily a bad thing, though I doubt it will be a repeating event with LoK.And then we had episode 307. Toph was not only a sl*t and a bad mother, she was a horrible chief-of-police as well. She broke the laws to cover up her daughter's crime.
Toph was my favorite character from Avatar: The Last Airbender, but she grew up to be an awful human being all around.

While she was not the most nurturing person, I think it's obvious that Toph cared about her kids, given 306's exposition. She made sure her kid didn't go down the criminal path (in her own way) while also opening up the chief position for her other kid (in her own way). Either that or she got completely lucky, but hey, luck is always better than skill.
At any rate, this season is doing it for me more than the last season. I predict a Korra loss against this new group. That should show her the position she's in.
