I'd say that goes for most of the original cast's parenting.

I don't blame Toph for letting Su (Is it written Suyin or Su yin?) go, though I don't really blame Lin for being so angry about it either.

It sounded like Zuko did a fine job though :P

Oh the irony.

Now we wait to see who Toph banged. Kid Toph was kind of a ruffian but I didnt think she'd turn into THIS kind of person.

If only the writers shipped her with Aang..She might've turned out for the better.

Actually, people who've had crappy childhoods tend to be the best parents in my experience. So not really ironic.

I don't understand why all the sudden Toph hate. We know very little of her life post-ATLA except for what we've seen on Korra and how she was apparently ill-prepared to cope with her teenage daughters. She also left at some (unspecified) point what I'm sure will be expanded upon further down the season.

Meh, people just can't accept when characters don't end up meeting all of their expectations in the most exact manner possible. And apparently having one of your daughters be the chief of police of one of the most prominent city in the world and another be the matriarch of what literaly seems like an utopia = bad parenting.

I'd say she did damn fine for a blind girl who ran away from home at 12 and always had issues with rules and authoriy.

To be fair the Toph hate is only coming from one person, at least in this thread anyway.

I disagree.

Its not about her not meeting our expectations, its about her turning into a bad person in adulthood. This isnt about "oh man why isnt she the Earth Queen and working eyes." This isnt about perfection, its genuinely disliking a dislikable character. And the disappointment that it was a character we all loved before...Some more than others. Looking at you foot-fetish Child Toph creepers.

How is she a bad person? For not putting one of daughters in jail, which looked to be the best choice seeing how she turned out

How is she turning into a "bad person"?  There is nothing suggesting that, nor is bad parenting (and I don't necessarily blame her for everything, as we don't know the details) an equivalent to a "bad person".  Not everyone is fit to be a parent, nor did Toph have the best influences - Katara had lost her mother, Zuko parents weren't exactly "perfect" either, each of the ATLA group had issues and flaws - so it's going to be apparent when they're adults as well, none of them are exceptions to the rule, but that doesn't justify the idea of them being "bad", flawed parenting... sure - a bad person in general?  No.

And sometimes, no matter the parenting style - a child will act out.  It happens.

Now all we need is to meet Zuko's daughter - who actually also turned into a fine mother, judging from what we have seen of General Iroh so far :P

Old Zuko reminds me of his great-grandfather. Badass.

lol She is most certainly NOT a bad person. Toph hasn't killed anybody for her own personal gain. She isn't pseudo-Darwinistic or power-hungry. She hasn't abused her children. Her shirking of the law in the sixth episode was out of love for her children, not because "lol bad person." Even while the action itself may be bad, there's nothing to suggest that Toph herself is a bad person.

What she is, however, is a flawed person and that's something that I like about her character, thank you very much.

Hmmmm, Airbending sub-skill of manipulating light? I had wondered if that's what Jinora did at the end of Season 2 against Vaatu.

So... anyone think that Korra will regain access to her past lives? This is probably the biggest fall out of Lok's Book 2. It's been a staple of the series and I'll be disappointed if Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, ect. are gone for good.

I never liked the way they used it in Korra though, mostly as a medium for convenient flashbacks.

Nickalodeon has canceled Korra due to low ratings.  This week's episode is likely the last.  The last five episodes has been yanked from schedule and will likely not be aired.

I think the writer's don't want to fall into the same trap that Toriyama (Goku in DBZ) fell into by overusing Aang. I don't see this as a particular problem since Roku was a large part of Aang's story for most of TLAB and Aang still stood apart as the protagonist.

That sucks. Don't networks count the internet into ratings now? Or hasn't that been put into effect yet?

Oh come on, they pull this two episodes a week friday slot without any marketing and then cancel it due to ratings?

Wasn't all of book 4 pretty much already in the works and half finished?  What's happening to all that?

This kind of things happens mostly dues to company internal politics.  Some VP does not like the head of the production, so he/she deliberates screws over the show to get low rating, to set it up for cancellation.  Ego and politics. It happens in corporations.
