Swaping penis for a vagina is not a big deal for me. I am a very androgynous person, and my genitals do not determine who I am as a person, so I would fit right in into a society that doesn't have genders in the first place.

My point being that I don't feel it makes sense to want your partner to die at the same time that you do in and of itself. Hence I don't understand that being a criterion against asari.CptData wrote...

Why wouldn't I? If you contracted terminal cancer, would it make you feel better to have your wife get it too?Besides that: would you feel good if you start to get old, wrinkled, with bones cracking here and then, almost blind and maybe deaf ... while your Asari love stays young? ^^
That question doesn't make much sense.
I won't go into that since it's useless to discuss that topic. After all we're talking about fictional characters and races here. No need to talk about real stuff.
Besides that: if I have cancer and have to die within a year while my fiancee still has sixty years left - let her live. I can deal with it, even if she's going to have another love one day.
I don't even fear death. It's part of our existence.

Perfectly fine thought if a couple is that deep in love. Sometimes the partner comits suicide when their loved one dies. It is not your place to encourage your partner to behave that way of course, but some people find that way of thinking in the first place attractive.

Just because they don't live for survival and procreation? That is actually the main difference between intelligent and unintelligent life.

The Talimance:
I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite dead Quarian on the Citadel!
Jack:
Shhhh...it's ok Jack. You'll forget all about that awful childhood full of mental, emotional, and physical abuse, and the life of crime that followed, once you get yourself some of this therapy penis.

Lets assume for a moment that the Asari actually exist, and that the events of Mass Effect are real. Liara will have hundreds of years left as a smoking hot bade when Shepard is a senile greybeard drinking pea soup through a straw and making 'oopsy' in his adult diaper. Do you really think she's going to stick around for that, and not run off with some younger specimen?
Generalizing asari is like generalizing humans. One asari will run away even before you are too old, the other one will change your diapers and not have another parnter for the rest of life.
But that's why I said that asari are better off romancing other asari, as they would be equal.

But generally speaking a species that lives for a thousand years or more shouldn't be that compatible with a species that burns out in 150. (IIRC, humans live to around 150 in Mass Effect)
Even so I can't imagine Liara remaining single after Shepard dies. She'll have another about another 900 years or so to get over it and find someone else.

That's what I said.
Liara certainly would get over it, she already got over Shepard in 2 years while he/she was being rebuilt, if one romanced her.

I never said that.
Actually, since my fiancee is a lot younger than me, she'll outlive me by years. Does that make me sad or something? Nope.
However, I still can age with her. Try that with an Asari - she won't age. Neither physically nor in her race's standards. In fact your Asari lover might start as her race's equivalent of "early twenty" and you'll die while she's still in her "twenties" ...
It simply gives me an uneasy feeling. No one should experience "eternal" youth.
Besides that - I'm wondering why Asari don't suffer from overpopulation. They live thousands of years and it looks as if they can bear children at any given age as soon as they're fertile. Also they're quite active and they can do it with every sapient species ... so why don't they go down the same path like Krogans minus "headcount controlling violence"?

Having a kid early means a few hundred years of taking care of them instead of doing what you want; I'd imagine it's difficult to be a stripper merc while trying to support someone for ~80+ years (if we go by Samara's statement of Morinth, who ran at 40, let's say that's the 18 mark or so).

What's wrong with eternal youth if both partners have it? I'm telling you asari are just a superior species.
They don't overpopulate the universe because they are not idiots like Krogan. They breed as much as they want/think is needed.

However, I can do the math for you guys:
The ordinary Asari can expect to live for roughly 1000 years and above. That's the average lifespan - means every Asari can get much older, maybe up to 1400 years. Lets stick with those 1000 years.
Also lets pretend an Asari is considered as "grown up" at the age of 50. Since the mother of that Asari needs to be grown up to, we have to calculate with 50 + 50 years. 100 years out of 1000 are used for reproduction.
Now I think it's a given fact Asari can get twins and triplets too - and won't wait until their first born is grown up. Also an Asari won't be pregnant for years. Maybe a year or two, but not ten or something. So technically, an Asari could give birth every five years or so.
What did I say again? 900 out of 1000 years can be used for reproduction. Lets reduce that span by another 100 years (the last century before end of life) - makes 800 years. 800 / 5 still makes 160 ... Even if an Asari can give birth only every fifty years, every single one can have 15, 16 children.
To keep the Asari population at the same level, they need to give birth to only ONE (!) child in their entire lifespan if doing it with a member of another species - or TWO if they do it the pureblood-way. Sure, you can add another child to compensate all those Asari mercs, commandos and such ... however, we're nowhere getting close to 100 Asari children, not even 10.
So how do Asari control their headcount?
I won't have it and I have no desire to have it. I think 100 years are more than enough. Especially if the world's f*cked up like she is these days. I simply think life is too much of a burden - as long as you have to obey orders, work for your money etc, it's not worth getting old too much.D.Kain wrote...

Why WOULD asari breed more than 1 more asari in their life time? They have nothing more interesting to do? They are advanced intelegent species. They can breed whenever they WANT to, they don't have condom accidents, they get pregnant when they give the order to their body.

Ask Samara.
She gave birth to FOUR Ardat Yakshi ... so much for "more intelligent". They do mistakes. Heck with it, despite the fact everyone sees the Asari as a wise race, they act rather stupid in their "youth". Asari mercs? Pirates? Criminals?
They call it "learning to live" or "experience", I call it "proof, Asari are not better than any other race." Even their Matriarchs do mistakes (Benezia). They have a millenium to achieve wisdom - and in the end they're not wiser than any short living species.
Also: since an Asari can do it with Salarians, Humans, Drell and other short living species, they could have seven or eight partners in her life. Now what if every single of those partners want at least one or two kids? There we go again: one Asari may give birth to more than just one or two children ....
Think it's kinda obvious I'm not the biggest fan of the Asari ... too many issues with a long-living, "frisky" species.
I like Krogans more. At least I know they're out for a fight.
