Tin foil hat time. Put on your tin foil hat and you'll see the truth. By using their sexiness they interbreed with people in power, ensuring that asari will eventually take their place. Look at references in LotSB. The turian councilor's mistress? Probably Definately an asari! Udina's favorite way to relax? Hanging out with asari strippers!

They'll conquor the galaxy through banging everybody, not war. How very insidious.

Well maybe. Just seems silly to me. They could dominate all galaxy in fullscale war in no time if they switched their focus to millitary. Also they could dominate in politics a long time ago, they were the first ones that found the citadel, and first ones to advance. They could ALREADY be in charge of everything if they really wanted too. No pity humanity or other lesser race would be able to stand up to them with their newly built first small fleet that discovered their first Relay.

Who says they aren't already in charge of everything? With every influential male in the galaxy having an asari mistress? Also, domination through banging everybody is less likely to result in objections.

Except Tela Vasir. And I hate it my Shepard couldn't romance her. She was awesome ...

Krogans are organically superior species to humans too, as are for example drell. It is the humans that suck. :P
Humans are better only than quarians, volus, elcor, on par with salarians and turians.

Iunno about Humans > Quarians if you're talking natural development and not extremely quick reduction of the immune system. Dem hips look like they could crush a skull.

@daqs You are completely right, I was just on the fly with those 40% of course, I don't know why I said that, sounds silly. =)
What I really meant was that asari COULD defeat other species in combat if they were interested in combat, but they chose democracy and peace, and no centralized government. They would need more troops and more space ships, but in the end they would surely dominate the rest of the galaxy if they wanted to focus on that as a whole. They have advanced tech and biotics, and a lot of years to train.

Also I'm not that sure a centralized government is always required for war, it just depends on how the particular society works. For example in Warhammer 40k the eldar race has anarchy in their craftworlds, but that doesn't get in the way of them being super organized and tactical in warfare.

I guess, but it takes rather more than "being interested in combat" - it's a ground-up reevaluation of your society's entire culture. The asari, because of their ability to mindscrew meld, have a culture that is based more on consensus in government, and this combined with their overall prosperity has led to the 2185-current extranet democracy. Changing that requires a bit more than simply saying "hmm I think we should ditch the citizens' legislatures for centralized institutions and the commandos for standing militaries".

It's like a citizen of one of the EU countries telling an American that, because the EU countries have a greater population and a larger economy, their potential military would crush the Americans'. Well, maybe...but the EU isn't about to develop centralized government and a single unified military backed by the entire economy of the European continent, ready for total war with America a la 1942, and it's not even in the cards.

As for the WH40K thing, I dunno. It doesn't really have a precedent in human history. While non-centralized organizations have sometimes been able to achieve ephemeral battlefield success in human history - e.g. the league of united Greeks against Achaemenid Iran, or the Turko-Mongol steppe tribes under Činggis and his immediate successors, or, at various points in its history, the Holy Roman Empire - it has always been just that: ephemeral. Free riders emerge. Allies quarrel over the source of supreme authority. The military apparatus is insufficient for managing wide-ranging operations. The members of the coalition cease to have harmonious goals. The available resources are insufficient to handle an attritive struggle with more centralized foes. And so on, and so forth.

Historically, many of the military forces that fought in the name of decentralized or democratic government were forced to develop centralized war economies to back their struggle and a hierarchical, non-democratic command structure to issue orders. This is true of Carnot's French revolutionaries, Makhno's Black Army, Zhu De's Eighth Route Army, and Trotsky's Red Army.

@daqs What if asari many democracies formed an alliance and each particular one would handle their own troops. And each democracy would get the payroll of soldiers up, so that more asari enlist in the military. Then maybe in the long run they could salvage more resources from the rest of the galaxy and divide them among democracies?

Then again asari just don't seem like ones that like to fight in the first place of course.. and they would have to be racist to do that. Because otherwise 1 democracy joining with humans or turians would be just as good.

^ true, daqs.

I'm just saying it. I saw far too many Asari mercs for my own good - that race of blue women isn't better than mankind. They might be space-faring much longer than humans, they might have wiser people on top of their society, but the average Asari isn't smarter or wiser than any given human.

Just my image of that race. ^^

\\
I don't know. I saw far, far more humans as mercs than asari, with vorcha as second and krogan third; krogan have a far lower population than asari, and yet are still more common. There are only about as many asari as salarians, and that's not a whole lot.

I know Bioware is a company trying to make money--but it's frustrating when a community seems determined to exclude others. For example in Dragon age Alastair was highly loved as a character among female fans--and yet he ends up on every game review publishers dork or tool list. I mean the asari are obviously a service to a more male audience---yet when a service is done to women it gets attacked, and therefore game companies do it less often (because bad press is bad business). Don't get me wrong I think the asari are awesome, and I'm glad you all get to talk in a forum about how great the are.

So my point is--there should be a male equivalent somehow to the asari that doesn't get taken down. That paired with the lack of females in "unattractive" species and the lack of Fem shep in marketing until recently made an unfair dynamic. And so while you guys talk about your desire for the perfect asari woman, I hope you'll consider allowing female or homosexual gamers the same freedoms in game culture (and not enable trolls who attack us-especially when those trolls work for magazines like Game Informer).

To clarify, I am a homosexual gamer and feel quite free with the asari, though the Mass Effect team really isn't that good at handling the matter.

Honestly, I don't know about your answer, but i like the question.

It's almost a given that an Asari mate would move on after your death. I guess it's fair that she could find someone else, but...

For some reason, the absolute certainty that she would have others that she would care as deeply for as me would make me uneasy. In real life, I figure the person I would marry would, unless there are extenuating circumstances, be sure that I am the one she was meant to live her life with. Me and me alone. That's what the commitment behind marriage is supposed to be, in my opinion.

So, to pledge your life to someone who fully intends to move on and find someone else after you die makes me feel like I'm nothing more than a "placeholder" in her life.

Make sense?

Yep, talked about that. That is why I said that I would have an asari wife only if I was an asari myself. ^_^ Because if one moves on it sucks and if one doesn't for such a long time it sucks too.

The only problem I personally have, which is one of the reasons I'm more leaning to Tali than Liara - ever since ME2 I can't make up my mind here.. - is their lifespans. Preferably I'd live as long as Asari do, but that would be out of the question.

It just creates a difficult state of mind for me, being outlived in such a dramatic manner (Though in case of Shepard chances are he won't just die of natural age anyway - though he's had a lucky spree so far so who knows) but basically the thought of knowing you're only there for maybe one century which in the great scheme of things isn't all that much for an Asari just.. ruins it for me.

Just being in her life for such a relatively small period of time seems... a little pointless? Maybe not the correct way to put it.. but it's pretty much a given she would move on after your death.

Then biologically that they don't actually take any DNA in case of children.. I don't know. It's a tough call.

In real life? Hell yes. I'd choose an Asari anyday, and if any of those "Asari are going to destroy the human race!" people get in my face.

I'll just tell them to **** off, and that the human race can burn for all I care. While I'm happily making blue, long lived, super psychic babies.

I agree with what you said except for humans being on par with Salarians, and Turians. Salarians are better than humans because of their intelligence, and rationality. Turians are better than humans because of their martial prowess, discipline, sense of community service, and focused attitudes. Also because Turians on the whole are way cooler than the human race.

Oh, and why are Drell superior to humans? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, I'm just curious.

I wonder what they feel and smell like. I think "soft & squishy" was used in ME somewhere. And the tentacle things on their heads are weird. I would miss the feel of really soft hair.

I also prefer the Liara blue vs the blue of what was her name, Detective Anaya (?) during Samara's recruitment mission.

A Krogan said that, but I think to a Krogan even a human feels
"soft & squishy".

I love those tentacle things. I find them extremely attractive.

I don't really agree with you about Salarians and Turians. You are listing their society superiorities, I am talking about them biologically. Salarians live almost half less than humans, and Turians are physicaly no stronger than humans.

Drell have perfect memory and their muscle structure is superior to humans.
