The reason we get clients has nothing to do with piracy. I normally disagree with this guy, but on this he is right. Who are pirates stealing from? In some caes, they are stealing from companies who have stolen the copyright from the creators themselves. There's little justification needed when you're stealing from the devil. Maybe publishers need to clean up their act first.

I think your right in the Origin is not about solely DRM and people just seem to focus on that way too much. The main point is competing in digital market distribution with Steam (long term).

I will however say it amuses me when he in the video is moaning and whining about EA moaning and whining. I also don't think he realises that it is not about competing in a free market at all. Free market enterprise is not the same as people using other peoples work and profiting from it and I don't think he draws the distinction very well at all. Free market is about promoting your own work and products and profiting from it on even terms (imho).

Here's a question that I would love an answer to.

Chris and Stanley, how do you personally feel about the neglect of 40 million gamers on the Steam platform? Does it feel good to know that a game your studio probably poured their hearts and souls into is being skipped over by true fans of the series because of EA's blundering?

I imagine it will go on Steam when Valve agree's to the terms EA want which from what I understand is about DLC.

You're talking about the mass-produced MMOs that more often than not cater to the Asian market, though. But pretty much every western P2P MMO that has gone F2P has massively increased its profits and userbase. DDO, DCO, Champions, EQ2, etc etc.

That is true, because most of those were F2P long before the west caught on hence why most of the one's I played were of that type.

I think you need to file that more into "most games are bad" rather than "most f2p games are bad".  The ones that build out a good game do well, as Wardka pointed out.

Since this discussion stopped being about Mass Effect 3 and is now discussing software piracy and MMOs, I'm going to shut it down for the time being. Chris may reverse the decision later.

End of line.

To be honest, I suspect it has less to do with DLC than it does Origin.  If you buy a game on Steam, it's expected that it will use Steam, not Origin.  I have a feeling EA decided they wanted to use ME3 as a vehicle to shove Origin down everyone's throat and Steam said "No, we're not going to distribute a system designed to compete directly with us".  I have trouble imagining that they would require Origin for retail but not for Steam.

Maybe there is an element of that, I kind of view it as most F2P (I have played) are bad however due to having played so many. But I can never say all are bad because I have never played all. I don't think I have enough hours left in my life to play them all because of how many there are and being made constantly.
