Sticky this. Seriously, please sticky it asap. This is about REQUIREMENTS TO PLAY THE GAME. I want to believe your are better than still trying to sweep this under the rug, and you won't succeed anyway. This topic is important and will be talked about. Acting like you hope it will just silently fade away is definitely not going to generate goodwill or trust.

EA needs to realize Valve controls the Online gaming distribution market with a rather convincing percentage of some 70%. You cannot switch to Origin even if you would want to. You would ALWAYS be bound to steam unless you would say a very expensive goodbye to everything in your steam account. Given that fact, what purpose would be served in Switching to Origin? Anyone who can riddle me that gets a cookie.

You do realise that you can have Origin and Steam instaled on the same computer right ? And that you can stop either service as soon as you stop playing a game requireing them ?

I fail to see why people would suddenly be forced to switch and not simply use both. I have both on this computer and Steam is only running if I play a Steam game. Origin is not running at all since I do not own any game that would require it right now and I only occasionaly run Origin to keep it up to date and to test what it actually does (which is not very much).

Ditto, plus I also use Ubisofts on top of Steam and Origin. You are 100% right in what you just said.

Ok, so ME3 will be using Origin... BUT what identity will be used in multiplayer game mode? Bioware Social network or Origin?!

I mean it is possible to have different friends on Origin and Bioware Social network. It is even posssible to have different nicknames.

So, when the game comes out and I login... what is going to happen? Do I have to add my friends again? Can I import my friends from Origin or Bioware Social Network? What nickname will do I have? How could I reach my friends?

That's what I don't like about Origin. Too much confusing.

Would anyone here give Oster or LG a key to their residence and the combination to their documents safe, as a condition on using one of their appliances, that they had already given Oster or LG fair payment for?

Would anyone here give Samsung or Sony access to their DVD player to push advertising based on which movies they were watching, as a condition on using that DVD player, that they had already given Sony or Samsung fair payment for?

No, you would not.

There's only one way to put a stop to this nonsense from companies like EA -- don't buy their products.

Please give us specifics as to why ME3 won't appear on steam. Being extremely vague about it only makes Bioware and EA look bad.

Most of us have come to the conclusion that EA wants exclusive rights to sell DLC. Valve changed its policies requiring DLC be sold AT LEAST through Steam, while still allowing it be sold through other vendors. If this is not the reason for the lack of Steam release, then please give the proper information.

ok bioware after this quote:
''Mass Effect 3 WILL require Origin for all PC editions, both physical and digital. This will not change.''
im out, at this point the topic is useless, u can close this topic, i dont even know why u close the other, there are topics with 500 pages, it doesnt make sense to me but whatever.. ea knows already what to do so they wont back down even if they will loose 30% of sales, which i doubt because probably most of yall still gonna buy the game. me??! right know im so disappointed because i wont finish the trilogy but i wont buy a ish from yall anymore.......

What purpose is served in running two game managers if i even question the purpose of one?

1) If we do not intend to use multiplayer, can we uninstall Origin after completing one time single authorization for the single player game?

2) Also, will I have to install Origin EVERY TIME I install Mass Effect 3, or after one time single authorization I will no longer have to install Origin ever again?

I pretty much followed all of the first, now closed, ME3 & Origin thread and these are questions quite a lot of your potential customers are interested in.

Is there any time frame in which these questions are intended to be answered?

P.S.: Good thing there is Youtube and other similar platforms as it will only be a matter of days, maybe weeks until someone will have uploaded his playthrough. Well, if I can't obtain ME3 (only intended to play single-player mode) without Origin being required, that is how I assume that I'll be watching the end of the trilogy. A bummer, but if that's the price for sticking to principles, I'll gladly be doing that.

P.P.S.: Is this the beginning of another non-stickied 220 page thread, that is solely kept on the first page here by people posting?

Excuse me but what does that image have to do with the terms of Origin's EULA?

It is the legalese in the EULA that permits EA to data mine my computer that I object to. Not whatever changes they've made to Origin's current behavior. If the legalese allows EA to do it, they can do so later once people have stopped watching them as closely.

I am not making lies up, nor claiming that Origin currently behaves in the way I am concerned about, I am complaining about the terms of the EULA that would enable that kind of behavior in the future.

In the other topic, someone replied to me that there is an offline Origin mode. but to do that, you need to start Origin and first be connected to the internet to log in. Offline mode is merely "appearing as offline", from what I've noticed. You're not REALLY offline. You still need an internet connection, which contradicts the "No internet connection required beyond the install authentification".

So I don't see why Origin will be required to constantly run so that you can play Mass Effect single player.

I'll also add that I care little for trying to push social features and social monitoring through to gamers. I want to play my games alone, even when I'm on vacation and no internet connection is available. Nothing's going to change my mind on that.

For heaven´s sake you can disconect your modem and still start origin without being connected to the internet. Offline really does mean offline. Stop spreading misinformation.

Why do you think they want you online?

So they can tell their shareholders they're "doing something" about piracy (which is a lie, as everyone with even meager sense knows that DRM and other measures do nothing to stop piracy.  PS -- DON'T PIRATE).

So they can mine as much data as possible from your computer.

So they can monitor your gaming habits.

So they can make sure you're not "cheating" in a single-player game.  (Which includes stopping mods.)

So they can push advertising to your desktop.

So they can try to capture your "digital download" business.

Go ahead and say your opinions  :) I havent got any objections against it, because it is ur business, not mine. Personally I don't care about Origin or Steam, because I don't keep any data, etc on this PC (strictly gaming pc).

LOL. Sadly, this is actually a better reaction than what happened with the DRM of ME1. They decided that discussion about THAT was off-topic and relegated it to the off-topic forum to stay nice and out-of-sight.  At least this is still in the ME3 forum.

For now anyway.

Stop asking this. The answer is yes, you have to have it installed. Why would you think differently? Still have some kind of faith in EA?

Think of it as the equivalent to Steam. If you have ME3, you have to have Origin.

Remember, it's not just what the current EULA says -- they can also change it at any time, and your only choices are to stop playing, or agree to the changes.  Oh, you could always try going up against EA's massive corporate legal department and its bottomless war fund.

Since both are Origin accounts (big screw up by EA here when they switched) this is a coin toss, but I guess the answer whichever Origin account (in other words whichever email address) you use will determine which part of your friendslist will be available and what your nickname will be.

Nthing the "you just lost a sale, BioWare". I was really, really looking forward to playing this with my friend come March, but you (or, rather, your parent company) has made a poor business decision to exclude customers who use the world's largest digital distribution service, because you (or, again, your parent company) don't want to give Steam a portion of your DLC funds. Because the tiny amount you lose to steam is worth losing thousands of dollars from people just not purchasing the game in the first place, I suppose.

And the reason I want it on Steam and am refusing Origin? Not spyware or anything else like that, but I own the first two games on Steam. I want my complete collection in one neat place, with one DD on my computer.

E: In response to your post about questions, here's some direct questions.

1.) Why are you ok with giving a cut of DLC profits to Sony or Microsoft, but not Valve?

2.) Will Mass Effect 3 be release on Steam at launch if there is sufficient demand, or is this BioWare/EA putting their foot down on the matter.

3.) What is the likelihood that BioWare/EA will blame piracy for poor PC sales, and not the exclusion of, again, the world's largest digital distribution platform?

I am very serious about all of these questions, and would genuinely appreciate any official, serious answers.
