The sad fact of the matter is that PC customers are a pretty insubstantial fraction of X-Box customers, so Bioware doesn't have to make their PC customers happy. So long as they sell enough to pay for the port from X-Box to PC, any other PC sales are gravy.

Fortunately (for me), there's no way I'll have finished Skyrim before April... and after that, well, there's plenty of companies out there who still are concerned with giving their PC customers the best possible experience.

1. Stop saying Bioware.
2. As others have said, if that were true we wouldn't even HAVE Origin.

1. I say "Bioware" because as one of EA's largest and most profitable developers, Bioware most certainly does have a say in this matter. I'm not going to pin the blame on solely on EA just because that's how Bioware wants to spin it.

2. I'm not even sure what you're getting at here? Are you trying to say that because Bioware is using an invasive form of DRM they obviously do care about giving their customers the best possible experince?

Mr. Woo's PM was enlightening, and I understand why he did what he did now. It is enough to tell me they do not intentionally take us for granted. I'm dropping this little off-topic discussion.

(No, I wasn't threatened with the ban hammer :P)

So Origin is a requirement for PC eh? That’s a no purchase for me then Bioware. Well done.

I have heard nothing but bad things about Origin from my friends who have used it for BF3 and I would really like for my Mass Effect games to be on the same service considering I already have 1 & 2 on Steam.

Best of luck working with Steam to put Mass Effect 3 on it. I will wait patiently for that day.

First off, I'm not buying the whole "we're working with Steam" bit. It's just loading more "Valve is being stubborn" deflection ammo.

Second, considering the quote: "Mass Effect 3 WILL require Origin for all PC editions, both physical and digital. This will not change." exactly how will that all mesh together? Steam loads the game, which actually loads ORIGIN (Hallowed are the Ori), which THEN loads ME3? Steam would not be a safe haven from Origin (Hallowed are the Ori) my friends. And I think it rather obvious that Valve would not prostrate and allow a competing platform to load on top of their own. Thus adding to the "Valve is the 'man in the black hat' " pile-on.

Origin (hallowrd are the Ori) would have to be removed from the equation before any mere flicker of hope could be sparked for Steamers. Put aside that argument for now. It's only diverting from the core issue and giving EAware plenty of red herrings to strew about.

Well, there are Steam versions of some games that use both Steam and G4WL.

Heck, Steam versions of GTA4 + EFLC use G4WL; Rockstar Social Club; and Steam

I got Batman Arkham City on steam
Thats Steam, GFWL and SecuROM.  I put up with a lot for a good game so it says more about Origin that I won't put up with it.

I bought Batman: Arkham City on Origin.
Only needed Origin for the download.

I don't have have to run Origin in the background to run the game.
So, that means I'm stuck w/ only Securom and G4WL to run the game.

Yeah those are the bad DRM not steam ;)

Too bad, maybe you could have wrested control of it from him and then you could wreak havoc.

And to keep this on topic: I am not a fan of the Origin software.

FYI
Newest version of Origin (8.4.1.210) still accesses the Internet Explorer folder Cache, History and Cookies and [userhome]/Cookies. I don't know why, I'm not using this browser.
I also don't know why Setup.exe searches for Desktop.ini in All users.WINDOWS Documents, [userhome]My Images and [userhome]My Music.
Origin.exe still crashes if the firewall blocked the complete traffic. On this point they have still work to do, unless EA will prevent you from playing wihtout sending data while Origin is running.
Running programs were not checked anymore during installation.

So, everebody who want to explain to me that Origin is working fine is not telling the truth. There is still something to do on this client.

IE would be what your launching Origin through or it could be the fact that IE is built into the windows system for using the internet.Origins looks at computer hardware/software and ip address.Even if it did search your pictures , it can't use that data because it is private and you can sue them for it.

Scanning and searching are one thing . uploaded your private info is a different story.

Mr. Woo, why do you take your fans and customers for granted? Not even a word of sympathy, or an attempt to persuade us to buy your game at a minimal level. I might have misunderstood your intent, but this roughly translate to, "we don't care if you buy our product or not, take it or leave it".

:crying:

Thats because they already know this game will sell like hotcakes those of us who actually have issues are ants.
At least thats how it feels.

Or it's too late to get rid of origin without delaying the title further.

Oh god forbid the game is another day late so I feel my computer isn't being violated.

People love their steam....
Steam has a great interface, connectivity, social(interface). Steam is also a service that overcharges and doesn't care because they know the user is to loyal/lazy to look around.
Amazon sells steam games(literally steam games) for 15%-25% off.
Direct2drive offers 5%+ off pre-orders of steam games.
Steam offers no discounts on their own games. Steam often charges retail prices on games while they get a much bigger commission the brick and mortar stores. They do not get stuck with unsold copies. They rarely are cheapest in prices unless it is game made and sold by them or indie.
I support Origin....not because its good but because it does what its supposed to. Its a little store that sells its game, often gives discounts. Price drops. Its not spyware and yes it does have a ****ty interface and doesnt offer many games. It OFTEN offers discounts on its games. Steam having competition will be a good excuse for them to stop robbing its customers.
Steam is itunes.
Do I use steam?Yes.Do I use amazon?Yes.Do I use direct2drive?Yes. Do I use Origin?Yes. I dont play direct2drive, I dont play steam, I dont even play Origin. I play games.
Buy it amazon.com's digital download service.  So you can play more games.

They have a deadline to meet that's already pre-planned.Now after the game launches they could come back and see about a no origin option.

Steam is half the problem. Steam is why Origin exists in the first place. People need to quit apologizing for Steam, cause guess what? It's a required client as well.

I'm sure it is , but who owns steam.EA would rather use their service which they have the right to do.

I'm inclined to agree....I mean unless they surprise us somehow and Origin becomes a higher quality product than Steam (doubtful given EA's track record).  I'm always open for some good ol' fashion competition but so far EA has failed to give me a good enough reason to use Origin other than, " because you have to".

Yes , but Origins is still in it's begining's.

1. BW did not say "Yeah, EA, you can use Origin for ME3." EA said, "You're using Origin for ME3." BW is a subsidiary, they aren't in charge.

2. They obviously consider the PC market important enough to develop a download distribustion client for it, and push it in their games. Thus, if the PC market snubs its nose at Origin, EA will rethink Origin. (maybe not remove it, but definitely rethink)

You must be joking..

Do you happen to miss how many sales they make during "sale events"?

When they off 75% or even 80% off for a game?

And other companies/services can offer different prices, depending on how they get their product. It's the same in RL. If you have a direct connection with a developer you can obviously offer it more cheaply than if you have a middleman or 2..

Or are you just trolling? I'm not entirely sure..

What?  Steam has great sales on their products all the time....

Edit: Perhaps not ALL the time, but quite often.

Yes I feel like a flea in this regard.
It's no more entitlement than any other business.  What happened to the customers are alway right?  I'm not asking them to give me free stuff I'm asking them to just reword some of the EULA and I wouldn't have much of a problem with Origin.

Steam doesn't set the prices for the games on their service, the publishers do. And during sale time games can get ridiculously cheap on Steam - AAA games for under $10 in many cases.

Wow, you really don't know how to use steam.  The montra for Steam users is, "Never buy except during the Summer and Christmas Sales" and only buy daily deals.   Within 6 months to 1 year from  release, you get AAA titles for 50 - 75% off.  If you're paying retail, you just don't know how to shop on Steam.
