I think my biggest concern so far would be that I have no idea what would happen if EA decided to pull Origin, or replace it with something else. Origin does not strike me as successful at this point in time; I count about 9-10 games total on its store; it's not like Steam where hundreds of games from many different publishers are offered.

I know that not everyone cares about longevity or just assumes that someone somewhere will care enough to fix this if it became a problem, but frankly, I've seen enough empty promises of 'yes if that ever becomes an issue we'll fix it' turn to vapour. It's hard for it not be at least a little concerning, for what is otherwise a working trilogy of games.

That is a fair and valid concern on your first part.

On the other part EA did say quite a few other big developers and publishers with to get involved with Origin and start putting their titles in the store later this year.

EA definitely NEEDS third party developers/publishers to get on board, or Origins is already doomed, and they spent a lot of money developing it. The only way they can do it is if they offer the devs/publishers the freedom to use both Origins and other digital distribs for the same products, although they can also offer incentives to make Origins more preferable. From their PR statements, that's what they WANT to do, but who knows if that's actually true, as 75% of PR propaganda is only partially true.

Public perception, or the perception by people like us on BSN who care enough about games to discuss them for hours and hours? We aren't a majority, I wouldn't think.

Public perception. I've yet to see anyone celebrate the news of Origin being mandatory on or off BSN.

Do you have a source for that ?

Check answers 2 and 9 on the front page. Not explicitly stated, but inferred.

and, also, it is very possible that Origin might TRY to connect if it detects that you are connected. However, it WILL work offline (others have said they currently have it, and it works when their computers are not online).

I guess I'm really running out of ways selling Origin to my principles as something I could tolerate. And I was already intending to make a seperate windows installation on a seperate drive with my main drive detached while playing. What a bummer.

Mostly all I am seeing is steam fan boys going on about it's not on their "preferred" choice of client well tough EA is trying to compete there is nothing to say Steam has to be the end all and be all of DD on the net. Don't like it then don't buy ME3 and stop QQing about it

If it happened to GFWL I doubt Origin will manage to avoid it for long. The public perception of EA isn't exactly a positive one. They're just buying time by sacrificing Mass Effect 3.

In every where I go, internet place or real world place, EA is (on par with Activision) the most hated videogame company out there.

Usually people don't want them near their favourite franchises.

Yeah, I don't know anybody remotely into games who likes EA. You can also add Sony to that list, except for PS3 fanboys due to some of their recent dealings with that hacking situation, but that's a whole nother mess.

I defend EAs right to compete on Origin, but I still don't like them. They are just kind of a shady company.

It's hard to like them after they killed off Dungeon Keeper 3 for the sake of some Harry Potter game.

Well it's their (money) loss if they don't do it at some point. I alone know a lot of people who'd buy the game instantly on Steam and now probably half of them will do without the game and the other half will get the "customerfriendly" version instead. And that's just the people I have talked to about this matter... and there's many more out there. Maybe that money won't matter that much in the end, but every dollar not earned is still a loss.

It's not like they were sitting in a meeting, all drunk, and had a coin toss on whether to put it on Steam or not. This has been very carefully planned out, and it's going to stay that way unless there's serious serious negative feedback. And that probably won't happen.

Oh, I don't know about that.  If there is one thing that I'm good at (and it's probably the only thing) it's being negative.

I can suck the life and cheer out of an entire room within 10 seconds.  I'm basically a walking cloud of emotional entropy

This may interest you guys.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be released on Steam. I'm not sure if that will give you guys any hope for ME3.

Is Reckoning even an EA game? I thought they're only the publisher.

It doesn't. Big Huge Games owned by 38 Studios. EA is only the publisher.

I would like to thank Chris for the additional information or more accurate being clarification.

The additional information seem's okay to me because those were the answers I had already thought they would be to begin with plus I was okay with it then so I am okay with it now too.

I'm not particularly fond of any gaming platform, Steam included, so I'm all for there being a bit of competition to force them to keep in line.

Good to know, thanks for stopping by without which I would never have had such a truly amazing epiphany that turned my entire world upside down. Your very constructive and profound post changed the way I will view the world forever.

While I jest, you could try to be a little bit more constructive.
