As the game now requires Origin.

Does that mean Mass Effect 3 has done away with the traditional log onto EA within the game in order to access DLC?

Or is it still a case of a one time activiation, but if you don't log onto EA within the game, you won't have access to your DLC?

Quoting this because I love myself but also because I would love an answer to it.

Also - if it doesn't require the in game EA logon, can Origin be in offline and DLC still used without an active internet connection?

I don't use them, next question?

Point been when people who are carefull with security and privacy, they are that with all stuff as far they knowledge goes. No-one can know all of the possibilities. That's why we are blocking and monitorin our own internet traffic and be very carefull what services and softwares we use.

Don't think it as we complain because "big mess", but because it's how we live our lives, thinking what is safe to do and what's not. Because while many things looks harmless, they can come pite our ass later. So, we short of pre-prevent those situation possibilities.

People usually call us as paranoid, but I see it more like we have seen behind the curtains what can be done, we have become more carefull. Because if person don't know or care or understand what's happening behind they back, they can't really avoid the consequences. But when you do know, you start to go around as avoiding those situation if you choose so.. Knowledge isn't allways so fun, it cause consequences.

We all have free will to make our own choices how we want to live our lives. Some people choose "Cool" and "Fun", while some others choose "Security" and "Privacy". It's free choice.

The single-player DLC should work as previously. First time activation online, then able to run in offline mode together with the main single-player part of the game. I'm sure they'll be offering DLC for multiplayer (new maps and such) and that would obviously require an active internet connection.

Except when the head of valve bashes an entire platform as substandard, then gets paid a bunch of money to change his mind right? You can be delusional all you want, just don't try and pretend Vave is anything more than a company out to make a buck.

Are you referring to PS3? Sorry to answer a fairly OT point, but if so I must point out - FYI Gabe Newell was very much a voice of the people (developers, not console buyers) when he posted that, the PS3 was a disaster. Sony have since pulled their finger out a little bit.

Also, how does that count as some sort of cynical sidestep? I have all sorts of opinions about which platforms suck and which don't. I also take money to develop for at least one of them and far from being inconsistent with those opinions, this informs and reinforces them on a fairly regular basis. In fact, if you don't think a platform sucks in some way, you probably don't understand it yet.

Colour me morally bankrupt, too, I guess.

I just thought I'd chime in here.
I own Mass Effect on both 360 and PC, and ME2 on all 3 platforms.
Due to EA aggressively forcing an unwanted digital distribution platform down my throat on PC and the implementation of multiplayer purely because everything is multiplayer these days, I will not be buying ME3 on any platform.

Furthermore, I will not be buying another EA game until they abandon Origin.

EA's history regarding ongoing support for older games leads me to believe that all products released on Origin will have a finite lifespan, resulting in me being unable to play the games I've bought in the future. I'm talking about how in the past, EA have killed off multiplayer servers for old games when new ones in the series were due out. I can only see this getting worse as EA attempt to prioritise new releases on Origin.

Sorry Bioware, but that's what happens when you get into bed with the devil.

So the one and only way to get German Origin - be in Germany, IMHO.

Well, it's definitely great to be German from time to time. Still not giving EA any money until they end their Origin misadventure or vastly improve it.

I do use some of those, although in most cases it does not make me feel very good. But I know my reasons for using them, and I myself have decided wether what my gain is worth my risk. I gain nothing from allowing Origin on my system, all I get is a completely unnecessary risk. Unnecessary because it does in no way make sense being forced to endure it when buying the retail hard copy version of the game.

Sorry - I may have muddled myself up there.

For ME2, DAO, DA2, if you didn't log onto EA within the game (no internet etc), any save games wouldn't load with DLC. Any new games you started wouldn't have the DLC until you logged back onto EA within the game.

At least, I never encountered a situation where I could not log on, but still had access to DLC.

We choose to use them - we are not choosing to use Origin.

We choose to use them when it suits us, when we dictate when and where we use it.

We are being forced to use Origin, human beings don't like having choice taken away from them.
Given a choice, hell I'd probably still use it, but it should be my choice.

So i just heard on IGN that Xbox 360 will be getting a demo of Mass Effect 3 very soon. No mention of ME3 Demo for PC though.

I guess this is why EA and Bioware are so smug and uncaring about PC gamers - they think we're a minority and don't even care if the PC version sells because they think they will make all their money from console sales. Is it any wonder PC gamers keep turning to the dark side. EA, if you keep kicking ur dogs they will bite ur legs off in the end. Stop mistreating us! >_<

The main thing I hate about this is that, say in 10 years in want to reinstall MY copy of the game that I have lying around and something has happened to Origin, or got forbid I have no internet connection, I can't play my game! MY game.
I won't be buy the PC version anymore, thats for sure. Good thing I have a ps3.

EA has been around for three decades i think they can manage another lol. And Origin is in their plans for the long term. Nobody is going to be like "okay we are shutting down Origin so nobody can play Origin based games anymore" just like Valve won't be doing that with Steam.

And honestly in 10 years it'll be harder not to have an internet connection than it will be to have one no matter where you are. Well unless you want to use the internet in the middle of the Amazon Rainforrest or something.

Which is why the PC market isn't as big as it once was. EA is going to kill off it's own PC market but I guess they have the Sims so they don't care about any other games.

EA isn't the only one killing PC market. Also Activision do it, Bliizard do it, Ubisoft do it.[inappropriate comments removed]

You have to, in a way, admire the persistant EA has shown to keep stealing information off people's computers to sell to third party markets. Any SMART company would've thrown in the towel by now.

Now we just have to wait for an Origin update that forces us to uninstall all non EA games off our computers.

Strange... I'm able to play DA:O and ME2 DLC while offline once they are authenticated. That is when I play them from my laptop while on travel and don't have net connection. I usually have my desktop always connected.

I agree. But it use to be like people can choose, do you want to play with console or PC. Anyone could choose they own ways. Now game companies has stoped asking, they tell us, you do it our ways or you don't do it at all.

Problem is, that some people actually stops playing and that will hurt hole gaming business.  My point is YOU CAN NOT FORCE all people to do, what they don't want to do. Some people just walks away, because they don't like to be told what they should do. They want freedom of choice.

How can they be persistant in something they never did ?
Information was never stolen or even legally aquired apart from the usual. (Just take a look at the so called proof  and open your eyes to look at the time, place, or actions taken in the screenshots or videos)
And aquired information is not shared any more than is by other companies including Sony,Microsoft and Valve. Not to mention that the part of giving personal information to third party companies has been taken out of the EULA I think back in august when it first was brought to attention.

Do you have DLC installed?

Because without DLC those games can be played on PC without internet connection. How ever, if You have DLC installed game would refuse to start without internet connection. Because it does DRM check for DLC's.
