Ah... so that's what your TL:DR post is all about.... I should have known from the start before I wasted my time reading half of it....
Except my point was very clearly made--I'd rather give him up to someone else entirely. Kelly, maybe. It's not about jealousy, or I'd be complaining about EDI and dissing her. I'm not. I like EDI and Tricia Helfer as an actress. That's exactly one-third of why I hate this, Joker being the second, the last third of which is the fact that I'm a sci-fi geek and I like to think about the philosophy, psychology, science, and the mechanics behind it all. None of which works if they are not going to treat it seriously.
No, I don't want EDI as my sexbot, I want EDI as my warbot. I want her to kick ass as my new tech expert on the battlefield (I'm not a fan of Tali, though I don't hate her either).
I find it rather shallow that most people assume that 'EDI in a body' = 'EDI sexbot'. That's just dumb.

I hope not! I'm with EDI looking the way it does. A floating blue sphere. We do not need "sexy" blue hologram to tempt people into romancing a computer.
Hell people are already entertaining that thought.
Though I wouldn't mind if EDI had the option of this body.
Hell yes.
I'll upload EDI into this baby:

[...]
There's a reason that if you seduce a 14-year-old genius that it's still considered a crime--just because the body is biologically ready for sex, it doesn't mean that an innocent mind can't be fooled into engaging in activities it's not ready for. The point is, even if the adult in the relationship tried very hard to be really kind and sensitive, it's still naturally built as an unequal pairing, which will inevitably turn out to be exploitative and all the more confusing for the teenager.
That Tricia Helfer has again been forced into the role of Number 6/the sexbot is appalling by itself. But that, rather than respect the character of EDI, rather than think through the fact that she has effectively just been born, if her body now has organic bits of any kind; they are putting her into a romantic situation.
It's not about whether somebody would be immoral enough to "hit that"--their hormones are irrelevant to this question. It's about whether an AI which has JUST been plunked into a body that can feel for the first time would be emotionally prepared for a relationship, or whether they could be exploited through their total lack of experience. Intelligence does NOT mean immunity to manipulation. It would be a drastically uneven relationship.
They could effectively "transfer" someone else's life experience to her brain to get around this little problem, if they have even thought further than "this suits our plot about organic/metal hybrids like the Reapers and the nature of existence/lots of boys like to fantasize about the perfect robot girlfriend who doesn't have any pesky opinions of her own and won't break your heart because she can't"--but then she wouldn't be EDI anymore. She'd be made of different life experiences, which would change her personality, realistically.
When it comes down to it, I can NOT see them doing this with a male AI in a sexy male body. It's not only fanservice, it's fanservice of the worst and most degrading variety. Sure, they can dress it up and rationalize it any way they want to; they can write it well to cover up the sickly underbelly, exactly as Stephenie Meyer tried to cover up the ugly misogynistic Stepford-wife underbelly of Twilight and her pedophilic undertones with that whole "imprinting" business.
If they write it as an adult relationship between two mature humans, it will fail to be convincing because all of these feelings should be new to her; overwhelming since she hasn't had the proper lifetime to get used to it all, and is suddenly plunged into the world of seeing, hearing, breathing, moving, smelling, tasting, feeling...
EDI isn't even 1 year old in terms of human/organic interactions based on emotions and hormones and all of that. If Shepard got together with her, it would be somewhat less disturbing because we know that he can be really sensitive and gentle as he is if you romance Jack or Tali in particular. You could have faith he'd take it slow. But Joker... Joker is the type to crack naughty jokes all the time. It's just who he is. it will inevitably look bad. Even more so since apparently, the disabled guy can't have a flesh-and-blood human adult.
Joker last game said specifically that we don't have to get all "unnatural" on him, and EDI said it was a "platonic symbiosis" that was going on. For EDI to go from cute and smart AI to "hot robot sex body that everyone drools over", and Joker to go from "brittle bones/I don't date crew" to "but she's an AI so technically even though I work with her more closely than anyone else I can totally jump her metal bones, no conflict of interest there!"
This is the worst decision the Mass Effect team has ever made. Unrealistic in every way and a major disservice to two beloved characters, despite the fact that it was clearly intended to allow Joker to get laid (though not by a real woman.) Yeah, this is sci-fi, but that makes it all the more important for things to make sense internally. If they can't manage that, then they shouldn't have done it. It's double character-annihilation and it's utterly immersion-breaking. Even if it's not as bad as I'm fearing, it's still going to disturb me deeply.
I wanted Joker for my Shepard, but I would sooner have seen him with a nice human girl and swallowed my tears about it than to see this disgusting travesty occur.

If Bioware surprises me and Tricia Helfer voices a robot who looks just like Tiny Lister, I'll be right there with you. As it is, ew.

It is indicated that the body is modeled after Eva Core, TIM's old girlfriend, and there are plenty of references to EDI's new body being attractive. Even if TIM wasn't doing unspeakable things to the dead-girlfriend doll, why would Shepard need a hot blonde female to be the team's warbot?

Would you like that Ymir (the most powerful warbots so far) look more like a woman? Honestly, female features on a robot only serve one purpose. And it has nothing to do with war. Why not go all the way and make her a cyborg with human skin? Hey, and since robots don't need clothes, she should be naked. But of course only to kick ass, not because anyone would be drooling at ... um ... it. I mean as if it is not ridiculous already to refer to EDI as 'she'. I mean she has a female voice, but why should a computer have a sex or be sexual at all? I like the idea of ships being refered to as she from a romantic point of view. Like 'the captain and his ship'. Captains are the last who leave the ship or go down with their ship like Shepard in ME2. But why ruin this kind of romantic picture with bringing in sex? I want EDI to be my ship. If I need a robot to follow me around I'll ask Legion. Or Miranda *cough*.TheKillerAngel wrote...
