ive actually beat the game on this computer before... but now I try to start the game and I get a dialog box that says the game "failed to initialize the physics system. please ensure you have an updated version of the PhysX System Software installed."

well. i just went to nvidia's site and downloaded the PhysX drivers from november. and still getting the same dialog box.

has anyone else encountered this problem? I dont really know what to do.

if it helps, I run the game through Steam and havent played it for a very long time. maybe a recent update went out and it's incompatible somehow?

I run win7 64bit. quad core 2.33GHz. with a GeForce 9500GT and 4 gigs of ram. game ran beautifully when i first installed it. Just wanna know what happened and how i get to play it again.

Same as always:

1. Is Dx9 all in best condition? Reinstall to be assured of no corruption.

2. Is the screen resolution setting you want the game to use the accurate one for your display type? No mixing 4:3 settings with a 16:9 or 16:10 display settings.

This, and much more has been covered a good number of times already.

P. S.  It also seems that ME3 will trash the version of PhysX used by ME2.

This is something I found on the steam forums, sounds like EA needs to figure this out.

"It seems to be somehow related to the install location of the Physx drivers. The version of Physx bundled with ME2 installs itself to "[program directory]/AGEIA Technologies", while newer versions install to "[program directory]/NVIDIA Corporation/Physx Technology" (or something like that). Whatever idiot wrote the Physx part of ME2 seems to have hard-coded it to look in the AGEIA directory, and not look for the location via the registry.

There seems to be no way around it, unless your Physx uninstalls itself sloppily and leaves registry values laying around it shouldn't, there is no way I can find to make the two versions work at the same time."

I would have to guess that the ME2 game is now way too old for EA to do anything at all about this. You can try contacting EA Help; however, I'm just not at all optimistic about the possibilities.
