Ok, this is a very annoying problem which I am unable to fix. After a cutscene ends, and a companion or someone else is saying something, I can see subtitles and the character's mouth moving, but the audio is completely mute, such as this one during Aveline's quest in act 1: db.tt/s7sKC86w Oddly, the only way ever to hear the audio is to skip through the cutscene with ESC. This problem doesn't occur with all cutscenes however, but happens very often.

Not sure if this is related, but I also have a problem with some of the music, most notably the romance music not playing half the time when you kiss Anders for the first time, and sometimes the combat music keeps playing after defeating Quentin, overlapping with the intended music for the scene. :pinched:

Anyway, I'm using Windows 7 x64 with VIA HD Audio on my mobo (VT1828S using the latest drivers), and I have the "Force Stereo" checked in the game (using headphones). And DA2 is patched to 1.03.

I wonder if I had better luck using a dedicated sound card?

First off, I've never experienced your particular error myself. I do use my own separate audio processor cards, added on, instead of the onboard chips, any of those.

Second, you can't get answers when you don't give the full rundown on everything, because it's all inter-related:

Ah yes, sorry about that. My full specs:

Mobo: ASUS P7P55D-EVO
CPU: Intel Core i7 860, 2,80 GHz (not OC'd or using TurboBoost, but this doesn't make any difference)
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1333 MHz
GPU: 2 x GeForce GTX 570 in SLI (290.53 drivers) 1,25 GB VRAM
Sound: integrated VIA HD Audio VT1828S (driver 6.0.01.10100)
OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1 (with all available updates)
DirectX: DirectX 11 (Jun2010) or later

DA2 is downloaded from Origin, patched to 1.03 and I have all DLC and the high res texture pack.

Anyway, the game runs pretty much perfectly, but this mute dialogue issue after cutscenes is really bugging me... Yesterday I noticed that this very same thing seems to happen in Mass Effect 2 as well. :( And what's frustrating is that it seems I'm the only one with this issue.

edited to add:

I disabled the VIA audio in BIOS and used the generic USB audio on a Logitech keyboard I had lying around, and the results were the same. :pinched: I guess my system is somehow incompatible with the Wwise sound engine that's used in both DA2 and ME2.

I'm having the same issue as Amphibian too. Another bug is that if I talk to one companion and click on a second or third companion, the other companions will not play their dialogue sounds while the first companion is still talking. It's as if there's only one sound channel that can be spoken into at one time. I haven't noticed any problems with ambient sound, combat sounds or music, however.

Unfortunately my PC is an Asus Predator G5910, so I don't know what the specs of my motherboard are, but the other components are:

CPU: Intel Core i7-2600, 3.40 GHz (not overclocked)
RAM: 6 GB DDR3
GPU: nVidia GTX 460 (285.62 drivers)
Sound: Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme (I also have a RealTek HDMI onboard sound, but switching to this did not fix the problem either.)
OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1
DirectX: DirectX 11 (Driver 8.17.12.8562)
