Will Shepard hold SMGs properly this time?

You know, I don't get this.
.
Bioware seems to be working so hard to improve ME3's combat. We have different crosshairs for different kind of weapons, a vastly improved cover system, rolling, improved AI and all that. But Shepard keeps holding SMGs like someone that never fired a weapon in his life.

Shepard should hold all guns sideways and with one arm. Even Sniper Rifles.

Only idiots that don't know how to fire guns do this.  First, you can't aim and expect to hit anything. Second, the shell ejects and flies directly toward your face.

Errm, no.

The shell doesn't eject backwards, or it'd hit you regardless of how you held it.

Watch the link.

Forward it to time stamp 1:52 and then tell me if Sheppard would allow that to happen to him. lol :o

Well if they have not changed it by now I do not think we will see it once the game is being released in march.

Unless all players will complain once they play the demo and realise Shepard is holding a SMG like a pistol.

As a Lefty, I want to know where 90% of shooters get their left-handed weapons.

In real life, shooting left handed weapons costs you hundreds of dollars extra, and exposes you to poorly manufactured attachments/conversion kits.

Sounds like a problem Zorg Industries understand and can fix!

It would be nice, but I imagine animations are one of the more expensive assets to create.

That's why I don't use SMGs in ME2.

Which is a shame. I'd love to have them implemented properly.

Shepard never learned how to hold an SMG since theres like 5 types in the whole universe compared to the 20ish ARs.

I honestly never noticed and probably will forget to look for it the next time I play. Doesn't bother me but if they can fix it, more power to them.

Lol the picture the OP posted looks awkward too - it's a weird old WW2-era SMG that doesn't have a reguar grip that goes along the barrel rather than perpendicular to it (like an Uzi, MP5, Thompson, etc). Doesn't seem like the best example of a normal SMG grip, just grabbing the clip haha

Doesn't look right - it's like somebody grabbing the clip of an AK47 while firing it.

Played the demo and no - they did not include a proper animation for SMGs.

The Cerberus guys hold their SMGs properly. Kind of strange that the player doesn't.

Yay a friend of mine got a Hornet today, Cerberus' SMG. WHile Cerberus soldiers hold the Hornet in a appropiate manner alliance commandos seem to have to go back to boot camp because they are holding it like a pistol which just looks stupid.

I thought the issue with holding guns like this was more to do with the fact that your arm can't easily absorb the recoil (i.e. your arm doesn't flex upwards easily when your hand is horizontal)?

Both. Shells will be ejected upwards (and if you are in a forward motion you will catch them with your face) plus you cannot absorb the recoil. There is a reason you are trained to hold a weapon properly. You have to consider physics and design of a weapon to use it effectively.

So it is kinda ridiculous that highly trained commandos and Shepard do not know how to hold an SMG while Cerberus soldiers do. Every other (good) game manages to get their weapons' animations right. Please Bioware I can bear 2D civilians but this SMG holding animation is really annyoing. Not so much of an issue with the Shuriken or even the Tempest. But the moment you get yourself a Hornet in the mp demo it gets funny/annoying.

I can't speak for the Hornet (or the Hurricane, for that matter), but I assumed the very nature of the Locust meant that is was supposed to be wielded by one hand, precisely because of its built-in recoil suppression. Hell, I assumed the only reason it had a foregrip in the first place was because they'd used the KRISS as design template.

Personally I wished they'd just stuck with the idea that SMGs in the future are generally machine pistols in the vein of Glock 18s and MAC-10s, and dispensed with foregrips altogether. You just know that as soon as you start adding foregrips, someone is going to wonder why they aren't being used.

it actually bothers me quite a bit, it always has. I generally don't use SMG's because of it.
