That's why it's a Dark Fantasy. It exposes the harsh truth of humanity rather than going for the happy, sweet lie that everything else uses. People lie, when it suits them, and feel guilty later. But usually rationalize it into being okay. (Logain was a master of that)

For a supposed Dark Fantasy it had such a happy ending though - the Archdemon is destroyed in a "Death Star"-like explosion and Ferelden rejoices and heroes are given a ticker-tape parade. Had it been truly Dark Fantasy I would have expected bigger repercussions for having poured dragon's blood into the Andraste's Ashes not to mention an opportunity to side with the Archdemon and destroy all of Ferelden.

You wanted a "stupid idiot" option?

...or maybe it's the Emo option. "Everybody dies!"

I didn't particularly find the ending happy at all. I was particularly struck by the Landsmeet choice. I won't put in a spoiler, but needless to say, i found all the alternatives very sad and upsetting. So much so I stopped playing at that point for the day. None of the choices were 'good' choices in my opinion. And there was a lot of lying there, to be sure. :)

lol

Alistair took over that option when he abandons the party if Loghain's life is spared.  He doesn't lift a finger against the archdemon if the PC shows mercy.

Morrigan:  She lies about why she is really going along with the Grey Wardens & her goals vis a vis the end game.

She lies by ommision. I don't think she ever outright lies to you though. Her and Shale are the only two that don't

Not telling someone something is not the same as lying about something.

Ducan did not lie to you about the ritual he always refuse to talk about it.

Alister did not lie to you about his parentage, he always refuse to talk about it till it really really came up.

Not everyone spew everything important about their life to any random stranger they met for all of 20 seconds.

So if this game were written how the OP wanted it, it would progress like this:

Duncan: Hello, I'm Duncan and I'm here to recruit you into the Grey Wardens.  It's a process by which you drink the blood of the Darkspawn, which will probably kill you, oh yeah and the blood also has the blood of an archdemon in it, and that's because if if we don't put it there then when we kill the current archdemon its soul will just go into the soul of another darkspawn.  But this way it will go into you instead, so you'll both die.  Oh and also it'll make you have nightmares and you'll die from the taint in a couple of decades.

PC: OK.

Duncan: Oh hey look it's Alistair.

Alistair: Hi, I'm Alistair, the royal bastard.  See, I'm actually the son of King Maric and a tavern girl, and after being born, Arl Eamon took me in, but his wife didn't like that, so then when I was 10 he sent me to the chantry to become a templar.

PC: Wow that was a lot of informa...

Alistair: And the Grey Wardens mean a lot to me so I'll stand by them no matter what.  Unless some **** usurper comes along and kills the king and the entire order of Grey Wardens who are the only family and friends I have and then the other surviving Grey Warden that I'm with decides to side with that person in the end instead of killing him.  Then I wouldn't side with them.

PC: Seriously why would you lay out that particular of a scenario just to cover the remote possibility that it ever happens?

Flemeth: Hi I'm going to send my daughter with you because then she'll...

Morrigan: Yes I'll offer to get preggers by a Grey Warden so that I can bear a demon baby...

Flemeth: That like maybe I'll end up inhabiting or maybe she will or something...

Morrigan: Cause you see she's actually this awesome swamp witch who eats her babies...

Flemeth: Well not really but yeah that's pretty much the idea...

Morrigan: Vis a vis.

Flemmeth: Do you even know what tha means?

Leliana: Hi, I used to be a spy and assassin but now I'm here in this tavern that the Maker told me to go to cause I was running from my old mentor who betrayed me and then tried to have me killed when I found out that she was actually plotting against Orlais (which is where I'm from by the way) and then I barely escaped and came here cause like I said the Maker told me and I actually just tell this story to everyone because as owl208 says if everybody doesn't tell you everything right away it's a problem.

Alistair: More crazy?  I thought we were all full up.

Loghain: This sentence is false.

In conclusion: not revealing everything at once is not lying.  People in this game don't give you all the information upfront because that's something called GOOD WRITING.  Seriously man think a little here.

honestly, technically didn't lie to you. they just didn't tell you EVERYTHING right off the back. Some of the stuff they didn't tell you are not things they should be parading around with. How owuld it look to you if Alistair were to say "Hi I'm Alistair, the king's bastard, you must be Duncan's new recruit!", or Leliana "I'm Leliana, even though my life is with the Chantry now, i use to be a manipulative Bard!"...Those are personal info you had to get it out of them. This game wouldn't be fun if they just spill the beans like that.

However, Loghain lied. that i agree

...That would be a crazy enough game that I'd almost be tempted to fanfic or mod it. How screwed up would Feldern be if no one could hide or obscure the truth?
