Toolset Download Concerns

So I'm currently on Dial-Up; it's takes me around 36 hours for a 200 mb file, or an entire week for 1 gig.  I've heard rumors the Toolset is going to be fairly large but even if it's tiny I can't see it being less than 200 MB.  The time it takes to download itself doesn't really bother me, but I'm concerned it may lead to me not being able to download it at all.

Being on Dial-Up, my provider likes to automatically disconnect after 8 hours, and if a strong wind happens to blow or the power goes out (happens quite a bit here) I can be disconnected unpredictably.  I notice that to download the Toolset registration is required, which makes me think Bioware is going to control it's release.. I.e. (no fileplanet download, or official bit-torrent).  Downloading with Firefox has been notoriously buggy for me.. It does support download resumption, but if it happens to be disconnected randomly instead of paused it's notoriously buggy and often corrupts the file (says it's down when in fact it's not).  So far the only reliable method of downloading for me has been via Bit-Torrent or a Download Manager.  There are a few other download accelerators on the market that seem to have better resumption ability, but they tend to inundate me with adware or cost money and even they still fail when the downloads are assigned to dynamic addresses that expire after a period of time to prevent external linking and the like.

My question/plee is anyone aware of a workaround for this problem or know if Bioware will be providing a Download Manager or releasing the toolset to a service that has one such as (fileplanet) or offering a bit-torrent download?  Please help, I'm very concerned about this as I had just assumed Fileplanet would have a copy.

expect around 500 MB but i see no problem in someone uploading it as a torrent. it's free and it require a installed game to work.

Well, since it is a completely separate download (without needing the game to be 'running' at the time or anything), then presumably you could go to a friend's house, or university library, or public library, or coffee shop, or major metropolitan open wifi point area, and politely ask to use their high-speed for half an hour.

I used to live in the country, with only dial-up, so I feel your pain...

The toolset shouldn't be larger than 20 or so MB. Oblivion's and Fallout 3's construction sets are about 5-10 MB, because they use the game's resources. Shouldn't be different with Dragon Age: Origins. (I know BioWare is not Bethesda... But if it's different, it would be a blunder on BioWare's part.)

where the **** do you live?

alaska? africa? easter island?

(I know this sounds naive and maybe insulting but I live in the seattle area and they have had broadband for a while. I checked a broadband map and most of the US has broadband access. of course you may just not be paying for broad-band and thats ok too, especaily if you arn't doing a lot of downloading or you ge a lot of annyoing phone calls and you want to have a good excuse for people.)

well, kudos to your dedication man, I hope things work out for you (and broadband comes to your area soon, or starts to cost less than an arm and a leg).

also if you have a lap top, try taking it to a starbucks, or something they sometimes have wi-fi. (i suppose you could bring a desk top to starbucks and do the same thing, but that might look a little silly). if you dont live near a starbucks we are officialy polar opposites ( I think I have 7 in my suburb, not counting tully's).

Tiskenburdle, if the file is too large for you to download easily there are a few things you could try. I am going to assume that you have a DVD Rom.

You should receive an E-Mail with your registration information.

First suggestion; If you have a friend with Broadband ask him/her nicely to download it to DVD for you... A Please and a bottle of Dew can work wondersPosted Image

Second suggestion; go to your local Public Library, talk to the Librarian and get permission to download and burn a DVD. Log into your email account from the library and after that it should be a straight download.Posted Image

Third suggestion; If you DO have a laptop available do the WIFI gig, locate a Public Wi-Fi Hub, they are all over, heck even McDonalds have them in some areas now.Posted Image

Heres wishing you Luck

Oh how I wish broadband was available.  Unfortunately nothing aside for satelite is, $500 down, $80 a month, 2 year contract, 300 mb daily download limit, and latency issues...  I'm not sure how they stay in bussines.

The really sad part about the broadband situation here is, I don't even live in the country...  I'm a block away from a convenient store/gas station, a block away from the Fire station and at the intersection of two major roads.  But alas, I'm in Maine at the moment, where only the 5 biggest cities aren't considered rural areas. :crying:

Unfortunately my laptop is fried at the moment, so no starbucks for me..  Also most of my friends nearby have internet issues similiar to mine.  I might try begging with the librarian in the next town over to let me download a file, but I'm not sure she/he is going to want me downloading things onto their computer as I'm not a frequent library patron. :innocent:  So far I think <3Headclot<3 might just be my only option here if Bioware isn't providing a download manager.

Incidentally, god bless the smiley

there are download managers you can get that work with any browser download. I haven't used them in years, but I'm sure someone can recommend one.

Mozilla Firefox also has a built in download manager, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the tool set end up on fileplanet.

Well there are alrdy like 50 copys of DA:O online so I'm sure that a torrent of the Toolset will turn up as well. and since it's a free file there's not going to be Compatibly issues, with those of us that Actually paid for it.

Why not use a aircard? They run roughly $50 a month or so and just go through your cellphone(or you can buy a card seperately from your cellular company).

Why not get a aircard? Anywhere your cell phone is covered the aircard would also work, or just connect your cell phone(to save on buying the card). It's like $50 a month for the service, I have friend here that lives in the country with only dial-up access and suggested the aircard and it works fine.

Workaround. It's 2009. Get a better internet connection if possible. If not possible in your area, accept your fate.

All joking aside, I'm sure Fileplanet will get a copy of the toolset eventually.

I got the digital download version, and although I was able to register the game with EA, I was not able to register the game at the social network. It keeps saying, "Code is not valid for game", despite the code being in the proper format of xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx, using the only code available that was of that length, with dashes added to match the format.

I've also tried the other codes included with the digital deluxe version, but those only had 16 characters instead of 20, and appropriately did not work.

If you can verify that my game has actually been registered in my name/account, I'd love to get access to the toolset to join everyone in crash-learning about its manifold aspects.

All of what you're all getting, and 'm also getting forum messages that say I can't post here, or it's an invalid topic....
