Zelda is a casual game? Since when? It's an RPG with puzzles and platforms, but it's an RPG and has always been. A casual game? WTF are you talking about? Zelda is a respected and old IP that most gamers have played at some point, it's a great gateway game for children and young people.
So you say Zelda is a great gateway game for children and young people, yet you also deny that it's a casual game?
Do you really believe that shooters will ALWAYS be dominated by guys?
Yes I do. Contrary to feminist logic, men and women do not have to enjoy the same activities in equal numbers.
There are some things men will always do and enjoy more so than women, and vice versa.
Gears of War people don't seem to think so since they made female characters FOR their female demographic. Yes we are so very insignificant someone at Gears noticed many ladies played and thought hey, why don't give them dude bras to play with if they choose to!
I'd like to see what kind of impact if any, having female Gears did for enticing female gamers into the series.
Although one can only wonder why it took EPIC so long to create female characters, seeing as there's such a huge market of female gamers interested in GoW.
So there you go maybe women who 'like' these games more if you gave them a taste of it and actually consider them as a market.... >.>
It's not my job to entice female gamers to play hardcore games. Thats the developers job. And looking at the track record of most of these developers, they very seldom (if ever) market their games towards women.
I wonder why?
If you are going to pull out percentages get a source because I'm pretty sure I've seen differing figures
I've looked for that damn article many times, but I couldn't find it. I wish I would have bookmarked it, seeing as this debate pops up regularly on this forum.

You can do the same for mass effect! And finish it under 10 hours (at least me2). I'm sorry but mass effect is at the same level as Zelda, maybe ME is even easier for me, as there isn't sneaky (I meant sneaky not tricky) puzzles to solve like there is in Zelda.
Yes you can also do it for ME, and many other games. However, hardcore gamers will most likely try to get as much of their money's worth out of the game, and so will also do the side quests etc..
And yes, the ME games aren't difficult at all.....but neither is Zelda. There are few truly difficult games being made anymore, since casual gamers outnumber hardcore gamers by a substantial margin.
The last game I played which was truly difficult was the Witcher 2 (before patches). I think I must have died at least 20 times throughout the prologue, and about 10 times trying to kill the Kayran.
It was awesome though, and I loved it. Now I find the game very easy, although I haven't tried dark mode yet and thats supposed to be much more difficult.

Your personal experiences, Unbannable, are not the whole demographics opinions.
The difference between casual games and "hardcore shooters" is that the more casual games market toward other demographics. The "hardcore shooters" don't. Hence the reason why a femshep trailer would be a great step in the right direction. If they would market games to other demographics, than other demographics would play said games.
If I were the marketing director of a game developer like Bioware, I would focus my resources on marketing towards demographic groups that give guaranteed results.....not unproven ones like women.

Excellent post. Incidentally, feminist logic is an oxymoron. People still don't want to believe or grasp that men and women are different, both in their biology, behaviour, tastes and the consequences of those things. You cannot socially reengineer away millions of years of evolution by decree, despite some people's earnest believe that you can do so.

Of course this whole women play one thing and men play another is just odd to me. The version of Spider Solitaire that came with the software I installed a year ago only got fired up, for the first time, when my father came to visit.(I'm a female gamer btw).

I'm not defending Miranda, but there's a reason for her being that way, perfect in every sense (she's one of the best squad members BTW).
Also a lot of people only look at her looks, instead her personal story.
But this is off topic and not an appropriate place for talking about her, let's not deviate from the topic...
Why do you think that? Just because they putted a 20 year old nymphet lolita face in a 32 year old woman?
You are being too pessimist. :innocent:

There you go someone aware of the trend. Lucos you need to change your perspective because your view will no longer be valid in just 10 years from now. The gaming landscape has changed and is changing every year with more girls and women trying out new things. The new generation doesn't even see a difference between genders for example:
At the doctor's office the other day my daughter was playing on her DS the new Zelda game, this boy plunks down right beside her and asks if he could watch. Then they proceeded talking about the game and what it's like and where to find stuff. They talked as equals, like the boys in my youth talked to each other about games and when I tried to talk to them they would just ignore or dismiss me. This is no longer the case.
So please, get with the damn program.
I think YOU need to change YOUR perspective. Gaming girls are never treated as less. When a girl plays video-games, I treat her the same way as when a boy plays games.
If you think you girl-gamers are somehow discriminated against then you need to think again, because this is not true, certianly in my case it's not true.
I simply said that "hardcore gaming girls" are still a rare sight. This is the truth. I can't change the truth and why would I want to? From every 100 girls I know, I only know 20 who play video-games.
From every 20 girls I know who play video-games, I know only 3 that play "hardcore games" such as shooters, hack-n-slashes, beat-em-ups, real-time-strategies and games like Mass Effect. The other 18 only play stuff like Mario, Pokémon and Zelda (like your daughter).

Agreed brother.
I mean look at Skyrim for example, You can play male or female in that game and you have like 6 different races to pick from to play as.
Yet you only see trailers with the iconic blonde Nord man kicking ass. And do you hear any female Skyrim players complain about it? Nope.
Same with Dragon Age. I haven't seen any femHawke trailers. Did anyone complain about that? Well yeh, maybe a few, but the majority didn't care.
Why are most folks here so obsessed with a femShep trailer? Male Shepard (or more specific: Sheploo) already is the avatar and iconic character for Mass Effect. Changing that in the last game from a trilogy is not smart marketing. It might also confuse ignorant people who never played a Mass Effect game.

First off not everyone who plays femshep is female you know.
Comparing femshep to other female characters such as Skyrim truly shows you dont at all grasp why femshep is popular. That post just sounds like your upset MaleShep no longer is getting all the limelight.
Also its clear your just here to grief and annoy femshep fans who have been patiently waiting for something Bioware promised. Yeah you may not get it. But no need to come here posting your dislike page after page. We get it. Please stop!

Femshep has become a socio-political figure on the banners of all those who think women are not represented in video games. It's moreso about what she represents than anything else.
I personally think this whole need for equal video game representation of every population niche out there is going a bit far. But hey, i'm a straight white male, so what do i know.

1) So? I was not the one who started saying that BioWare needs to release the femShep trailer to cater to the female-gamer crowd. So I was not the one who brought the idea of "femshep = for female gamers" up, someone else did and I simply responded to it.
2) FemShep is popular because of several reasons, often the same reasons why people play female characters in Skyrim, in Dragon Age and in other RPG games. The same reason as why Lara Croft is popular. Oh, I understand. I perfectly understand. I think it's you wo doesn't understand.
3) LOL, not true.
4) LOL u mad bro? I'm not here to annoy you (though I must say the temptation to annoy you is high), I'm here to talk some sense into you and show you that in the end, nobody cares about the femShep trailer, except for a vocal few who are on this board. I hope one day you'll understand that BioWare has other, higher priorities than this femShep trailer. This femShep trailer will come when the other more important things are dealt with.

Since when does anyone feel threatened by female protagonists? I for one love Lara Croft (expecially the more humane Lara Croft from the latest Tomb Raider games).
And I'm sorry about those jackasses on Xbox Live. I too think such sexist jokes are really immature. But then again, most of those guys on Xbox Live who make sexist jokes often are little 14 years old childen.

Oh right I forgot about tombraider, but even back when tombraider was first released(Polygons ftw) Men were still all ****y about a female lead.
I know men who still crack those stupid jokes in their 20's. The only thing worse then that, is being female and working in the gaming industry.

Knowing that I could play as a female hero was what encouraged me to buy the first game, and to fall in love with the franchise. Then I bought the second game. And all the comics, books, some clothing, the DLCs, and a preorder for the third game, and undoubtedly the DLCs for that and whatever merchandise will come later that catches my eye...
Basically, because of Femshep, Bioware has made a lot of money out of me. 18% doesn't sound like much, but considering how many people have bought the games, that's a lot of money. It's just good business sense to offer a small token of appreciation to every demographic of your customer base. Plus, you never know - a femshep trailer might catch more people like me.

Thats your responce?! I dont even need to reply to it. Your doing fine digging a hole already. Especially that bolded part.
Anyway Im done. The purpose of the thread was to ask Bioware when the femshep trailer was coming. Still no ETA. Im not really interested in why you dislike her being marketed. Fact is she is and Bioware clearly think she marketable thus the change in stance. There a business, if they thought it would damage the brand they wouldnt do it. Yeah there are more important things going on, but that doesnt stop the thousands of request threads being created by different posters. What important for them may not be important to you and vice-versa so please dont act like your opinion is the only one that matters. All this thread asked was for time on a promised trailer which we heard little about.
