Wow, WTF? This thread has turned into something else. Hard to even read somethings posted here. I know everyone is entitled to free speech and their opinions. But this is the least constructive 14 page anything I have ever seen. What happened? This thread has lost it's focus. I vote to have it locked/closed.

No! I like how you assume we want extreme feminnity.

Does Ashley have a "lady sway"? No, we want something normal and not too masculine.

The last game I played which was truly difficult was the Witcher 2 (before patches).  I think I must have died at least 20 times throughout the prologue, and about 10 times trying to kill the Kayran. Image IPB

It was awesome though, and I loved it.  Now I find the game very easy, although I haven't tried dark mode yet and thats supposed to be much more difficult.

Last game that I played that was hard was Bayonetta. I finished it but definitley not a game I recommend to casual gamers.

Do you really believe that shooters will ALWAYS be dominated by guys?

Yes I do.  Contrary to feminist logic, men and women do not have to enjoy the same activities in equal numbers.

There are some things men will always do and enjoy more so than women, and vice versa.

The demographic of recent horror films like Paranormal activity, are females, compared to the 80s when they were male.  More and more action woman are being protrayed in movies and attracting female audiences away from romances and comedies and cartoon, the only type of movies that was marketed towards women decades ago. Now, comedy geared towards female is changing too, from the sweet, fluffy kind to movies like bridesmaid, where the bride ends up doing a number two in the middle of a busy road or another does a number two in the sink and they all end up being sick on each other.

The leap between male and female interests in changing. It's like the world is slowly accepting and allowing females to like gross and violent genres like their male counterpart.

I've looked for that damn article many times, but I couldn't find it.  I wish I would have bookmarked it, seeing as this debate pops up regularly on this forum.

Gee.... I wonder why... lol. It's not even worth commenting on.

Zelda is a gateway game because it can be played by ANYONE. Children or adults and enjoyed by both. It's easy to get into but it can get complex. Often people who play Zelda will go on to more robust RPG games like Oblivion, Dragon Age ect..

Go look up the definition of casual game and then we'll talk. You're not using it right.
Actually no let me make it clear: A casual game is something simple anyone can pick up and put down at any time and played for short periods at a time or long ones. It requires no skill or understanding of it to begin playing it but it can take many hours to master. Think Bejeweled, Facebook games ect. A lot of them are free or free to try and played a lot by people who do not consider themselves 'gamers'. Though gamers themselves do play these games too. The budget for these games tend to be fairly low and are often super simple in graphics and gameplay.

That is not a Zelda game. Or a super mario game either. I think you are confusing family friendly with casual.

Edit:

As for the total bull crap on the last 2 pages, NO ONE is DEMANDING ANYTHING. This is something that we were told was coming, this thread was asking about it. That's all. So keep your small minded idiocy to yourself.

Also do note how dismissive you all are simply because we're excited about something that speaks to us. If you don't care about the topic then don't post in it. I've explained my reasons and they were sound, if it can't sink in to some of you that's not my fault.

I've said it before. You don't care about it, fine. What are you doing in this thread then. Just discredit other people's opinion because it is not yours? To some of us it is important. And as you can see we are not all girls or women. So the whole 'girl gamer' issue doesn't even count. Because 'we' who want the trailer are not all women. Just ignore the thread if you don't care tbh. Ridiculing people's opinion is unnecessary and doesn't help anyone.

I never said only girls want this trailer and I entered the thread to find out why is it such a big deal to you. I found out.

Then try reading first next time before you start to make assumptions.

I personally am really looking forward to seeing this trailer. Not sure what took them so long, but it better be bad ass, Hale deserves it.

This is truth Hale is a fabulous voice actor she deserves a little limelight  Though she was hanging out with Bioware this summer when they unveiled the FemSheps we voted on, she seemed to be having a blast!

Nonsense, changing? by what measure? what are the percentages? You sound like someone who believes that men and women are identical and all you need is to push the social engineering button and a man is a woman and a woman is a man. I wam willing to bet that men liking those genres still far outstrips women.

They made a big deal out of femshep with lets pick out her hair style
and color. Why the hell go through all that trouble for nothing? Also
Jennifer Hale deserves some attention for the job she has done. She is
an amazing VA. Women deserve to know that their are more female
characters in games now and that we are being given the option to play
one. Most of the women have no idea due to the old sterotype that women
don't play shooters and war games. Little girls have the right to see a
strong female and not just some helpless sex object in games. Femshep is
a female soldier and it is a good example for little girls that she too
can join the army if she so desires or be a karate teacher, a police
woman, or a fireman. Showing that a woman can be strong like femshep
shows girls that women's only place isn't just in the kitchen. That
sterotype is wearing out it's welcome real fast and the women in the
kitchen jokes are just plan old and stupid. Times are changing and a new
generation of kids are playing games including little girls. The
statisics will change. More and more women are getting interested in
video games because they are finding out that marketing is getting smart
for once and realizing women want to play as well. That is the whole
key word many people don't get!! It was promised!! People should keep
their promise. I still have faith they will do it.

See? One well written post like this can make you change your mind. Thank you. [no sarcasm]

Yeah see the only reason you are in this thread is provocation. It won't work. Now off with you.

I think he is just being sarcastic about how big a deal people make of this. "OMG I have to have my FemShep trailer, you promised BioWare, damn it you promised!!!"   It's just a trailer.

Indeed I am...well caught.

Tbh that train has already left the station. They lied to us before and still doing it in some of their advertisement (notME3). The question is not whether they lie to us, it is whether they are going to stop at some point. Easiest would probably be to not make promises at all. But honestly, even if they had not promised, some femShep marketing is overdue. Be it wallpapers or trailers or whatever. Because she is part of the game as much as  male Shepard. Just obviously not in the marketing. We didn't have a counterpart to Sheploo for two games. Now we have one and I want them to do it right. Or they can as well in their next game just have a male protagonist. I bet nobody on the Witcher forums complains about not having a female Witcher.

Femshep is a fantasy character and not a reflection of reality. How many real life women can live up a man's regime or physical standards? I mean, seriously, a couple of weeks ago my work colleague asked me to install the water jug onto the water filter because she wasn't strong enough to do it herself and hoist it up there. I like playing femshep as much as the next guy but come on?!

How many people have you killed in your life or are you going to kill? How many times have you been shot? How many buildings did you fall down? How many times have you been hurled dozens of metres in the air all across a room? How many times did an alien space ship crash on you?

How comes you can accept a male having superhuman powers but not a female? See where the problem is? It's not about reality or physics or genetics. It is about you having a problem with strong women. You know there are women who can probably crush you like a fly? So why not just stop pretending and say how it is. You're scared. It's ok though. We can't all be cool.

She wasn't strong enough, or she didn't believe she was strong enough. I can change a water jug and I'm not exactly ripped or big. I also work in a kitchen so I've had to prove I can move heavy equipement around so I'm not exactly the norm right there. Women need to start believing they are able. If you can't reach something grab a ladder or stool, if you need to lift something but don't have the upper strength to do a full lift, get leverage.

I do my job whithout any help from anyone, I may do it a bit differently but nothing stops me from moving boxes around, cleaning my stove tops and glaze table, all really heavy stuff girly girls would never even try to lift... However it's completely possible.

edit: Meh sorry for helping to derail again, I'm pretty much done here. Yay trailer hope it comes soon so we can make a thread on how awesome it is. ^_^

Yes men are physically bigger and stronger than women, but there's one thing that needs to be noted:

Femshep is a cyborg from the future.

Having a femshep trailer broadcast online and on TV might help attract more female gamers who might have otherwise stayed away from it thinking it was geared predominantly towards men.

More players = good.

Having a femshep trailer does not detract from all the maleshep trailers and promotions we have had for ME1/2 and upcoming ME3.

And bringing in modern real world issues into a game set in the future doesn't really make sense. Yes men are bigger and stronger than women, and even if both had genetic and cybernetic enhancements, men would still be bigger and thus stronger. But they're not competing against each other. They're competing against the ALIENS.

Also, the example of a woman who couldn't fit a water jug does not compare to human-machine hybrids from the future.

This entire discussion is just ridiculous.

As for the original intent of the thread: BW have said it's still in the works; so we should wait.

This argument bothers me.  It matters because an entire gender is being left out of the marketing.  Not just someones personalized character.  Bioware made a big deal about marketing to its massive female audience and then fell through on it (at least thus far).  They teased us with voting for a generic femshep (finally an alternative to the fugly default femshep of ME1 and ME2) and then promised more to come and here we are, a month and a half away from the release date and they still haven't given me (a woman) a whole lot to be excited about in terms of gender differences in gameplay.  So there you go.  That's why it matters.
