I can't imagine why a trailer with Femshep matters.

Nor can I.

My male Shepard isn't in any of the trailers yet I don't make a big fuss about it.

This argument bothers me.  It matters because an entire gender is being left out of the marketing.  Not just someones personalized character.  Bioware made a big deal about marketing to its massive female audience and then fell through on it (at least thus far).  They teased us with voting for a generic femshep (finally an alternative to the fugly default femshep of ME1 and ME2) and then promised more to come and here we are, a month and a half away from the release date and they still haven't given me (a woman) a whole lot to be excited about in terms of gender differences in gameplay.  So there you go.  That's why it matters.

Marketing is not the platform I'd consider for gender polotics. Whats important is that we get to play her in the game. A trailer is not that important.

*Politics*

Trailers are par for the course in marketing for video games, so why not one of the main character?

We'll have to agree to disagree there :)

Let's be glad then you are not marketing director ... or anything.

You don't have to be glad, since your precious Bioware has already shown a great deal of reluctance to market any of their games specifically to women.

I think people are conveniently forgetting that little fact.  You think Bioware's marketing team is stupid or something?

If they thought women were a demographic group worth marketing to (women after all are the ones spending most of the money), they would have done it already.

Well I am not a woman and still want them to market femShep. So the group is not just women but also men who play femShep.

I agree that a lot of nonsensical social restrictions are being removed from both men and women, but there are still quite a few core differences between men and women when viewed through demographics.

I come back to this thread to see again certain people not getting it. They made a big deal out of femshep with lets pick out her hair style and color. Why the hell go through all that trouble for nothing? Also Jennifer Hale deserves some attention for the job she has done. She is an amazing VA. Women deserve to know that their are more female characters in games now and that we are being given the option to play one. Most of the women have no idea due to the old sterotype that women don't play shooters and war games. Little girls have the right to see a strong female and not just some helpless sex object in games. Femshep is a female soldier and it is a good example for little girls that she too can join the army if she so desires or be a karate teacher, a police woman, or a fireman. Showing that a woman can be strong like femshep shows girls that women's only place isn't just in the kitchen. That sterotype is wearing out it's welcome real fast and the women in the kitchen jokes are just plan old and stupid. Times are changing and a new generation of kids are playing games including little girls. The statisics will change. More and more women are getting interested in video games because they are finding out that marketing is getting smart for once and realizing women want to play as well. That is the whole key word many people don't get!! It was promised!! People should keep their promise. I still have faith they will do it.

Femshep is a fantasy character and not a reflection of reality. How many real life women can live up a man's regime or physical standards? I mean, seriously, a couple of weeks ago my work colleague asked me to install the water jug onto the water filter because she wasn't strong enough to do it herself and hoist it up there. I like playing femshep as much as the next guy but come on?!

How many people have you killed in your life or are you going to kill? How many times have you been shot? How many buildings did you fall down? How many times have you been hurled dozens of metres in the air all across a room? How many times did an alien space ship crash on you?

How comes you can accept a male having superhuman powers but not a female? See where the problem is? It's not about reality or physics or genetics. It is about you having a problem with strong women. You know there are women who can probably crush you like a fly? So why not just stop pretending and say how it is. You're scared. It's ok though. We can't all be cool.

You're a git. Watch my ME2 videos, at least half of them are femshep, obviously you have your issues to bring up nonsense like a 'strong female character'. My issue is the constant whinging around here for the trailer. If it comes, fine, if not also fine. Deal with it.

Zelda is a gateway game because it can be played by ANYONE. Children or adults and enjoyed by both. It's easy to get into but it can get complex. Often people who play Zelda will go on to more robust RPG games like Oblivion, Dragon Age ect..

Zelda can be played by anyone, and thus it is a casual game.  Heck, the Nintendo Wii is a casual gaming platform for God's sake!

Go look up the definition of casual game and then we'll talk. You're not using it right.

Just because I'm not using it according to your own personal definition, doesn't mean I'm not using it right.

You've already admitted that Zelda is a gateway game that can be played by ANYONE with little or no previous gaming experience.  I mean, if children play it on a regular basis, then how would it not be considered casual?

I remember playing the original Super Mario Bros and Zelda when I was 7 years old..

Actually no let me make it clear: A casual game is something simple anyone can pick up and put down at any time and played for short periods at a time or long ones. It requires no skill or understanding of it to begin playing it but it can take many hours to master.

Sounds just like Zelda.

Zelda: OoT was the first game I beat from start to finish.

Back on topic: I really want to see it. Me and most of my friends on deviantArt play as femShep and rarely even touch maleShep, we'd love a trailer even if it was a just a short one.

I wouldn't care about this little spat if it weren't for the fact that Bioware already stretches themselves too thin to please everyone. Their games don't need to be a love note to every race, color, gender, or sexuality out there. The fans have gotten so rabid about being represented in their games that know we're arguing over a stupid trailer. This is absurd.

I'm sure they're just fooling around and teasing you. I'd say: "man up" but since you're a woman I'll just say: just show them you're the bigger person and try not to care when they crack jokes like that. Or better, laugh with them and show them you understand that they're just fooling around, maybe replying with a joke about boys/men.

Yuqi wrote...

The only thing worse then that, is being female and working in the gaming industry.

I'm a man working in the game industry (I'm a game designer/developer and environment artist/designer). I have plenty of female colleagues. None of them complain about working among us men.  So really, what the hell is your problem?

1) So? I was not the one who started saying that BioWare needs to release the femShep trailer to cater to the female-gamer crowd. So I was not the one who brought the idea of "femshep = for female gamers" up, someone else did and I simply responded to it.

2) FemShep is popular because of several reasons, often the same reasons why people play female characters in Skyrim, in Dragon Age and in other RPG games. The same reason as why Lara Croft is popular. Oh, I understand. I perfectly understand. I think it's you wo doesn't understand.

3) LOL, not true.

4) LOL u mad bro? I'm not here to annoy you (though I must say the temptation to annoy you is high), I'm here to talk some sense into you and show you that in the end, nobody cares about the femShep trailer, except for a vocal few who are on this board. I hope one day you'll understand that BioWare has other, higher priorities than this femShep trailer. This femShep trailer will come when the other more important things are dealt with.

Thats your responce?!  I dont even need to reply to it. Your doing fine digging a hole already.

Jep.

You're no different than a Tali fan championing for Tali, a Garrus fan championing for Garrus, a Liara fan championing for Liara or a Illusive Man fan chammpioning for Cerberus/TIM.

Captain Crash wrote...

Fact is she is and Bioware clearly think she marketable thus the change in stance.

Of course BioWare couldn't possibly be giving femShep a bit of attention just to keep her fanbase pleased, right? Noooooooo of course not. Of course BioWare would never make a femShep trailer just to please the femShep fans, right?

Obviously BioWare has more important things to do than keeping the femShep fanbase happy, thus the total absence of a femShep trailer up to date.

Captain Crash wrote...

Yeah there are more important things going on, but that doesnt stop the thousands of request threads being created by different posters.  What important for them may not be important to you and vice-versa so please dont act like your opinion is the only one that matters.  All this thread asked was for time on a promised trailer which we heard little about.

Don't worry, the trailer will come, but only when BioWare is done with the more important stuff (which is basically everything else).

If there were not a femShep then there would be no thread about her. It was their choice. If they do something they should do it right. I wouldn't care about the trailer tbh if there wasn't a Sheploo in so many trailers. They first give you the option to do what you want to then keep telling you that you did it wrong. Because if you look at the marketing you could assume that ME is about Sheploo like Witcher is about Gerralt.

Indeed. Were fools because were excited about a promised trailer and its something were looking forward to after waiting years for it. What foolish to you is understandable to others.

Like I said, you may not get it or understand it. However that doesnt give you the right to try and belittle people and claim that your opinion is more valid. Just because you have no interest in it and think Bioware should be spending time on something else doesnt mean your right. You said your piece long ago but you still remain here purposely causing an argument. Your just here to troll and annoy femshep fans who have been wanting this for a long time.
