Your statistics are really off but yeah females are in the minority. Yes it is discrimination just not in the way most people would like to use it.

So the fact that most hair-products are advertised and marketed with females as the target audience, means we males are being discriminated against (because I, as a male, use hair products too)? That doesn't make any sense bro.

That would be because female's actually were represented by bethesda. While not in the trailers (which there was only one or two "real" trailers for skyrim, rest gameplay by journalists) bethesda released multiple images, and one big wallpaper of female dohvakin.

Of course the demographic for skyrim seems to be largely males but I have no data to support my claim there.

Really? I'm not surprised I missed that since I basically forced myself to ignore the game until a couple weeks before release.

BioWare also released plenty of high-res images of femShep, including wallpapers.  Still it seems to be not good enough for the femShep fans.

Yes, I understand that BioWare promised a femShep trailer and yes I understand that BioWare should keep it's promises. But to scream that female-gamers are discriminated against and that female-gamers need to stand up for themselves is just silly and obnoxious.

facepalm.

Certain hair products are sold to male and female due to its contents and affects on hair. Not even a close comparison.

I'm not saying this discrimination is bad or anything its just  there to make money since most males are gamers. I even said I would do it while marketing female shep in closer to the games release. Why are assuming I'm attacking Bioware or you?

Well some men may feel that way. And rightly so. I don't think anyone claimed that women are the only ones who are discriminated. I mean basically if society dictates a 'perfect' picture how you are supposed to be they discriminate everyone who is different, no? Just because it happens all the time doesn't mean we should just accept it.

No one is screaming here at all but if you aren't specifically talking about right now then you forget. This is BSN people act like this all the time. The difference now is that females will likely scream and act stupid over not showing female shepard.

Thanks she looks pretty badass. Although not as awesome as my female Red Guard or Dark Elf.

I'm still saving this.

Exactly what year is it in mom's basement?

Your typing of people is comical, do yourself a favor turn off your computer go outside and meet a person.

LOL. Well, if you think you can rewrite evolution and that helps you sleep at night, go for it. I guess everyone needs their fantasy.

Looking at you I wonder if some parts of humankind have ever evolved at all. Why don't you just stop talking about things you have no clue about? That would be nice. Things change, they have always changed. That's what evolution is all about.

Biology and reproduction don't change within a century or less and the rules that dictated our behaviour 100,000 years are still in place, though with new cultural constraints, after all, that is all culture and society are, constraints on our biologically derived behaviour.

So you could just go back into the jungle you came from and be all nature like. Since that's what you prefer anyway.

Typical feminist drivel, no real argument, logic or anything of the sort, so just use strawmen and ad hominems. Pathetic.

This is no forum to discuss this. But basically no matter what you think are the rules of this world, I am not going to accept it as excuse for bad behaviour in any way. Society will evolve whether you want it or not. If you wanted a mature discussion you have missed your chance long ago. You know, when you started trolling this thread instead of making a reasonable point. This is about a sci-fi video game. One in which I can play a female protagonist even though I am a man. That's the whole point of the thread if you didn't miss it. I am not here to play target for your rl frustration.

Okay, the hair product example probably was a very bad example, but you still got my point, right?

I think discrimination is a really negative word. We should avoid if we're dealing with something that isn't negative (such as certain hair products being advertised to a certain gender). We only truly speak of discrimination when there is a negative and/or an irrational prejudiced treatment of a certain group.

Remember folks, if you see someone obviously attacking/insulting others, dragging a topic off into an argument, or posting sexist/racist/otherwise inflammatory trollbait, the best thing to do is PM one of the moderators, and/or Chris Priestly and Stanley Woo. They don't mind, and it's less energy expended than engaging people who want to fight.

We could start by clearing up misconceptions and gathering better data for a clearer picture. I was rather surprised at that 90% statistic you used to describe the gaming demographic when current data (well, 2010 current) indicates a much different picture.

Meh I get your point but being PC at times gets annoying. While the marketing to just males and even hair products technically are negative but logical and makes sense from a business stand point. Ideally I would hope that marketing both male and female shep equally would work just as good as simply male shep but alas it likely wouldn't.

When women make as much as men, aren't victimized ten fold more than men from gender crimes and are as socially accepted as men to take positions of power, is when you can use a "Same Team" fallacy..

Your argument is weak, discrimination exists for every creed, religion, gender and race there is.  To what degree is the problem. Women constitute more than half the world's population, yet are discriminated against far more than men. Don't try to justify your stance based on circumstantial and 'exception to the rule' oriented anecdotes.

Though, I feel a videogame forum is about the least meaningful place to have a conversation on gender issues, first world problems and all. (And I know that's hypocritical of me to say) Nevertheless, female objectification and discrimination exist pretty heavvily in this industry still and I don't think you can make a case that it isn't much more prevelent for women than men.

And so we're all fortunate Bioware puts effort into making the game a gender equal experience rather than lip service in the form of a femshep trailer.

We still didn't really get another Blur trailer yet for male shepard either. They seem to be waiting until the demo to come out to start bringing out the trailers.
