I don't think it's necessarily any better, even in Northern and Western parts of Europe. Sure, the exact numbers may vary, but the trends are still there for everything that Revan mentioned. In fact in many parts of Europe it is probably far worse.

It really depends on where in Europe. Lucos and Alex could be in some country and Western Europe where the trend is similar to America but not as common.

Probably, but I'm also in a country in Western Europe that usually prides itself on equality between the genders. And still the trends are there, although the exact numbers may be different. But yes, the situation may be slightly better than in the US.

Edit: Anyway, feminism and women equality is beside the point and not the topic for the thread. I don't see the necessity to make this a full-blown feministic issue. ME3 is just a video game. I think BW have a lot to gain by marketing to the demographic that would be playing femshep, and there are a lot of people who are femshep fans and would appreciate the trailer. It's really does not have to be more complicated than that.

This is a very interesting discussion. (I'm not being sarcastic). It
actually is one of my favourite discussions, the inequality of women,
but perhaps best saved for the off topic thread. It would be a shame for
a really good discussion to be banned by the moderators for being in
the wrong section.

Going back to the marketing and the
trailer, I don't see why it's a big deal. It wouldn't take to long to
make a trailer. If the people who deal with Bioware's marketing can't be
bothered or don't have the time, there will be fan made trailers coming
soon (as in after 6th March). Some of the fan made trailers are better
than the official ones anyway.

What I do find funny is that when Bioware show the trailer and it isn't CG the butthurt will be hilarious. If the trailer is a BLUR then there will still be butt hurt from those against fem shep trailer with the argument that you could have used this money on the game.

Now if the trailer is shared with male shep then the flames will engulf these forums.

Quite hilarious either way.

This is going to get borderline spammy, but what the hell--this is what the thread is about now. For those who still have their heads in the sand about sexism, racism and homophobia, this might help you begin to understand what your problem is... it's called privilege: sindeloke.wordpress.com/2010/01/13/37/

Good god, I just spent like 2 hours catching up on 10 pages worth of drivel.

Luc0s,
You repeatedly said that you don't care about a femshep trailer yet you're still in my thread insulting those who do. If you don't care, why are you still here? Obviously there is something you find interesting enough for you to keep pushing the buttons. Interesting in the sense of you don't like it or do, but interesting nonetheless. You can't say you don't find it worth your time since you're still here.

The past few pages going on evolution and nature vs nurture debates is just ridiculous. You're basically saying "Boys like to climb rocks and forever HAVE climbed rocks. Girls just occasionally climb rocks. Boys have been doing so for centuries ergo girls shouldn't do it because boys did it first xP" That's basically how i've read near all those argument posts. I used rocks as the example because it's reminiscent of what a child would do. We're adults here (well mostly), and if you're so set on saying that women are not discriminated against, then why is it that it's said that this is just feminists wanting a femshep trailer? If they aren't discriminated against, what would it matter if the was a femshep trailer or not? But again, this thread has brought out many people who do not think there should be one for whatever reasons.

The fact of the matter is that Bioware said they were going to give us one. Hence the voting on the default femshep looks. Bioware, aka chris priestly, replied to my thread that was asking if that was still in the works by saying they are working on it but, they just don't have a ETA. Those are the facts. Fact fact fact.

If bioware, did not care about the femshep demographic, they wouldn't have said that. Much less gave this thread a response about it. So all this rambling about how there shouldn't be one because blah blah not very many girl gamers, girls are casual gamers, it's all about sheploo, OTHER kids parents(games) let their their kids climb on rocks (play girls) but you don't see them complaining about it, is all irrelevant.

Even if you personally do not think it's worth bioware's marketing teams time and money to do so, again for whatever reason, then good for you. But again, the fact of the matter is that they have already put time, effort and money into it. So, while it's neat that a thread of mine is already in the 20's worth of page content, it doesn't really matter when all that content is bickering over silly things.

Bioware, the maker of the games we like enough to come to Bioware's forum, where Bioware has said they are working on a trailer for Bioware's game that is marketed toward the character of Bioware's femshep. I THINK, Bioware cares enough about their consumers to have not only given us a place to discuss things about Bioware's games, but to have given us the thumbs up about them showing off Femshep. I think they know what they are doing. So if you don't agree that there should be a femshep trailer, well take that up with Bioware.

There is no point on arguing on it. It's already happening. They already are putting the effort into it. They are already giving it attention. So calm down, go eat a cookie, and possibly do a little dance about bioware caring enough to even give us multiple ways to customize our characters.

I don't know about "more rights" but there is an obvious double standard in favor of women.

Agreed. The discussion about WHY there should be (or not be) a femshep trailer was held long ago, and it has already been decided that there will be one. So there's really no point in discussing why there should or should not be one, over and over.

An ETA would be very nice though, Bioware. Are there any events/showcases coming up where a femshep trailer release would be likely?

And?

Where's my FemShep Trailer

I have no idea. Probably in a marketing office.

Since this thread discussion seems to be more about gender inequality and that sort of thing, I'll add in my 2 cents.

Yes, we could really use more female marketing. 9 times out of 10(or realistically 10 out of 10), marketing for any game involving a choice in gender for your character is going to end up a guy thrown on television.

On the other hand, why does the marketing really matter that much? I see Sheploo on a trailer, and I say "that isn't me". Being the same gender as I doesn't make him relatable. To your average viewer? That's fair enough, I suppose.

I say bring on the Fem Trailer if that's an option. If not, I'll just change the channel/turn off the trailer and do something else. I refuse to write more than this on a 30-second video coming on TV. :P

To begin with, violence. Women can commit violence against men, particularly in domestic situations, without any fear of penalty, how often do women still slap men in the face? we see it in films all the time, can a man do that? No, no. (Violence is never good, I am just calling out the double standard). Children's visitation rights and division of assets in divorce, in most Anglosaxon countries women get the lion's share of everything, including the children, whilst the men ends up paying for it for nearly the rest of his life. A British friend of mine, his wife cheated on him, then filed for divorce and she still got most of everything. Never mind the long time motto, women and children first, women's lives are inherently more valuable to society (as the the limiting factor in reproduction it makes sense) whereas men's lives do not carry that value. Far more research is poured into breast cancer research than prostate cancer, though prostate cancer tends to be far more virulent.

Personally, I hope they'll show a femShep trailer sometime soon. And by 'soon', I don't mean March. I'm not too keen on the femShep default myself, but that's mostly because she reminds me of the annoying farce that was thedefault-femShep-voting. But, I do think having a proper femShep trailer would be a good step forward and I don't see what's so hard about making one. They make maleShep trailers just fine, so why not her?

And it seems like a good and obvious way to get more women interested in the game. After all, it's still not obvious to anyone unfamiliar to the game that you can even play as a female. The game covers feature Sheploo, and even the blurb on the back talks about how you will be 'playing as Commander Shepard', without making much reference to the fact the character is very customisable. Aside from that, it's just nice to see a little recognition for the female fans (or those who play as a female, anyway).

    Additional: Domestic Violence.

Domestic violence is a prevalent occurrence throughout the UK (and elsewhere but I'm using the UK as an example here). The 'Call to End Violence Against Women and Girls' (*1) initiative is only a recent development (The clue is in the name over who it does not help - read: men). The evidence provided showed that that 60% of all domestic violence victims are female, and that one in four women will “experience domestic violence over their lifetimes” (*2).

However, through this it shows that males represent 40% of domestic violence victims (*3). The problem? The massive disparity between the help available to both sexes is astonishing. Women receive 7500 'places of refuge' throughout England and Wales, to shelter them in times of abuse, while men only have 60 available to them (*4).

I'm still waiting for the day when the trailer is an .exe file that accesses your save game and puts your custom shep into the trailer, complete with characters and scenes from your game.

That said - I also support anything that brings me more epic music and ME video.

Good for you Luc0s. Thanks for admitting you're intentionally derailing a thread. You're discussing something that should not be in this thread. If you want to bicker about something like that take it else where. Thank you.
