Why the hell is the Warden a unicorn? Wut?

They are rare, creatures of legend. You don't believe they exist until you meet one. Like that. According to the Qun the Warden couldn't exist. The Warden is a bas, worse even could be a female and as such not a proper warrior (in the eyes of the Qun). Pretty much like femShep to some of the posters in this threads lol. Anyway, Sten cannot deny the Warden and what he/she has done. So he considers him/her as an exception. Something that only appears in legends and stories usually. If you weren't eyewitness you wouldn't believe it etc.

Qunari are weird like that. Women and men have separate duties that the opposite sex seem to not be allowed to do because of the Qun. A man could be a soldier but not a artisan. In a way to them its like saying a man can have a baby.

I think Sten at one point said he thought the Warden was a man lol.

If I remember correctly, he says something like,
"You're either a Grey Warden or a woman, one of them can't be true," to which you can respond, "But I am a Grey Warden," and then he says "Then you are not a woman," and that ends the conversation.

I've forgotten most of it, but I love that part

Well it is against his believe that a woman can be a warrior. So either she is a man or not a warriorPosted Image

Hence the unicorn allegory. She is no man and still probably the best warrior he has ever seen so she must be something completely different etc. 'Hero' would be a discription if you consider 'heroes' a group of people who are above and beyond social and other restrictions that 'normal' people would have.

Umm this reminds me of Lord of The Rings The Return of The King (film)

Nazgul King: No man can defeat me.
Warrior Lady: I am no man [stabs him in the hoodie]:P

We're still talking about Female Shepard Trailer? Well it's going to happen pretty soon. Just be patient and continue talking about women and unicorns (if that's your thing).

They don't get to be BECAUSE of physical ability.

Limitations of biology and body. It's just the way it is. Funny how people want to pretend the differences between a man and a woman don't exist.
Seals, Rangers and other spec ops are exceptionally demanding - even among the fittest of men, few qualify. Olympics demonstrate the differences quite nicely - and it war there is no reward for second place

Not so. In Australia they have undertaken a process where within the next few years all roles will be open to both genders provided they can meet the physical demands of the role. This was done at the request of military, rather than political leadership.

Things is - they won't meet the physical requirement.
Even if they do, there will be men who outperform them.
And then add the fact that women take special suppletement/hormons to get rid of auntie flow, that they wear themselves out far faster (especially the back).

Simply put, biologicly, men are better sutied and have more advantages for this job. And when you're picking the best, those advantages become cruical.
If I was a spec ops operative, I'd want hte best. Even if a candidate has just 0.01% better reaction time then the other one, I'd want the better one. Because my life, and the life of the entire team would depend on it. Politicians, special interest groups and political correctness can go die in hell - efficiency and survival is all that matters.

I'm really irritated by the simple facts of life being takes as some sort of personal insult to all women. Youi know, if a women got a job over me because she is better suitied, I wouldn't moan about it. No matter how much I complain, I will never have the multi-tasking advantages of a woman. I will never have the wider pheriphery vision. I will never have their social interaction advantages. It's the way it is and I accept it and move on.
It would be nice if other people coud get over their own limitations too.

There are already women who have met the physical requirements and exceeded them.

You're basing your entire argument on;

All women > men at subject x
All men > women at subject y

When in reality - there, even if its a minority, is a number of both genders who are able to perform tasks as well or better than the gender the task would normally be associated with.

For example - if conscription was active - it would be bad - since there are plenty of men, myself included, who will never be able to maintain the physical level required. However - there are women who can and choose to volunteer.
So who would I rather have in my armed forced? The conscript who doesn't measure up? Or the woman who does and chose to be there?

Anyway - just wanted to chime up on this

Feminists do not believe either in biology or the associated differences in the sexes derived from that biology. Everything is merely a social construct to them.

Oh? Care to substantiate that claim with proof?

You're basing your entire argument on;

All women > men at subject x
All men > women at subject y

Not.
I'm saying all women have an inborn advantage over men in X.
All men have an inborn advantage over women in Y.

In the context is can be compared to talent. That advantage will go to waste if not nurthred.

For example, there are women that could physicly out-perorm me. But that's cause I'm not a sporty type.
But any woman going for Spec Ops is not going to be competing against me. She'll be competing against men who are just (if not more) as motivated, train just as hard AND have that inborn advantage.
While there is nice fantasy that all it takes is willpower and dedication, the reality is that those can get you far - but there's a pretty definite and hard limit to them too.
This isn't your average soldier we're talking about here. It's closer to a olympic competition.
And men out-perform woman there..well documented. There's a reason men and women compete separately.

A woman - even if she pases the requirements - will be less effective in that position than a man who passes the same requirments. Heck ..even regular female soldiers suffer 50% more basic injuries  because they have to push themselves. the number of back injuries among woman soldiers is double.
There's nothing to be ashamed or outraged about.

Occasionally chiming in with a "Hurr you're all little boys you're intimidated lol kids" is in no way, shape or form contributing to an adult conversation.

And once again people, the OP has requested that people stop going OT.

Crap like this gets threads locked on us. =/

You know what a person does when they're having a debate and they know they are emphatically correct? They state the facts and then they're done with it. The fact that you continue to regurtitate the same statements over and over shows that you're being petty and upset over something that you yourself said you couldn't be upset over due to your superiority.

When someone behaves in a petty manner over things which have no consequence, they look like children. This is the image you'ver projected of yourself on to strangers.

You're talking about someone who has bones that have been super reinforced with very strong synthetic lacing, has artificial super fiber weave muscles added directly to the real muscles for super strength and endurance , and has skin that has super strong micro fibers that make the skin significantly BULLET PROOF.

How do I know this?

http://masseffect.wi...m/wiki/Research

Heavy Bone Weave (Skeletal Lattice)
By reinforcing the skeleton with a synthetic weave, bones can be made
almost unbreakable. In the event of bone trauma, medi-gel conduits
allow for bone regenerations in a matter of days.

Heavy Muscle Weave (Microfiber Weave)
Perforating the muscles with micro-fibers increases overall strength
and decreases the potential for muscle damage from exertion.

Heavy Skin Weave (Lattice Shunting)
Strong synthetic fibers can be woven through the skin, dramatically
reducing damage taken from most attacks. These fibers also act as a
medi-gel conduit, improving healing.

Considering all this, Shepard is a freaking cyborg, with super human abilities and strength thanks to the Lazarus Project. Shepard has gone far past the point where the minor differences in biology between sexes has any meaning at all. What you say is possibly applicable to ME1 Shepard, who only had the standard gene modification and cybernetic upgrades that all Alliance soldiers have. But by ME2 and ME3? Oh heck no. The shepard who can kill a krogan battle master in a straight up fist fight, male or female, is not somone that sex matters about.

Well, we were talking in general - at least that was my impression.
But even if you want to argue that route - man shep is larger, hence more space for MORE synthetic muscles and all other kinds of doodads. The advantage of mass/volume.

Well but muscle and bone is not all what soldiers are about. What about aim, reflexes, your already mentioned multitasking (even though it is a myth tbh), situational intelligence, as in grasping a situation quickly and executing proper measures to control it etc. Also probably a base diplomacy/empathy skill is also helpful in situations since the job of a soldier is to solve problems, and not kill as many people as possible as some games and movies maybe suggest.
