Don't really "hate" Vega or anything, but I prefer Jacob's look over his. Vega looks too much like a typical Call of Duty army character to me.
(see what I did there, hehe)

I have not really paid any attention at all to ME3 beyond the issue of Origin, but I am at least peripherally aware of James Vega and no, I wouldn't call myself a fan. I would say my issue with him is that 1) We already have a sizable number of beloved characters that have a history with Shepard (me) and some of those characters were certainly sacrificed in ME3 so that we might have Vega in their stead and 2) he seems SO vanilla based on what I've seen. Do we need another meat-head soldier-type in the shooting genre? Do we really?

Judging the book by it's cover I see.Harbinger1985 wrote...
Vega is the dumbest, most meatheadish character I have ever seen. The fact BioWare, who up until now I respected and admired for their writing and characterization, would create such a stupid character (and yes, he will take the place of one one of YOUR favorites on your squad) is partially indicative why ME3 is different for the worst.
because he wasn't in Me1 everyone seems to hate everything that's not from ME1 around here since ME1 was obviously a perfect game that had no faults or shortcomings at all.chengthao wrote...
i'm not a James Vega fan, i really don't care either way but I just wanna know why ppl hate him/dislike him so much?

The only reason I can think is that they have "judged a book by its cover" and think the is not an interesting character.
When I first started play ME3, I didn't use him much as I focussed on teh characters I knew from ME1 or ME2. Now that I have started using him, I have really grown to like him. I see lots of people calling him "fauxhawk" or "meathead" or whatever. Just like all of BioWare's other charac ters, there is a lot more to the person than what they look liek on the outside.
I expect most fans who have played ME1 or ME2 will do just what I did and do a playthrough with their favorite charcaters from before. I'm hoping that once they play a second pass or whatever, they give Vega a chance. He's much better than people seem to think.

I don't hate Fridge Beefchest, his character doesn't seem to conform to the stereotype he physical appearance gives off. I hate what he stands for. He's pandering to the lowest common denominator. "OH LOOK A MEATLOAF WITH A MOHAWK!" Vega more or less sums up biowares new direction. Mainstream, not saying it's an inherently bad thing, it's just that their games will appeal to me less and less. I'll just take my money to CDPR after ME3's said and done, doesn't really matter.
I'm pretty sure he can use the Claymore, since a fair number of weapons restrictions for squaddies have been lifted, and as to using it properly...well, he has Carnage.Kronner wrote...
If he can wield the Claymore shotgun and use it properly, I will use him all the time

Yeah, wish people would at least wait until he says something stupid before they label him. Though honestly, I won't use him probably in my first playthrough either. Because there are others I already have attachment to.Tazzmission wrote...

Jacob should get a better reception. He was a level headed guy in the middle of psychopath's. He also managed to stay calm during the reunion with his father.
I don't see what is wrong with him.
