Well I'd expect one major reason for that is that ME3 is the last of the trilogy - outside of spin-offs and whatnot in the mythology, there's no more shepard/reapers after this. This is it.

wowzers!

o_O Did we just enter a scooby doo episode?

Also, more people played ME2, so there was that. Whereas ME1 was fairly obscure, although well received, ME2 got rave reviews and loads of GOTY awards, so that probably got some people's attention. I think most people don't pre-order games if they aren't fans of the series or at least the developers--I certainly don't. If ME3 brings in as many new fans as ME2 did relative to the number of existing fans there had been at the time, it bodes well for the series, the devs, and possibly RPGs in general.

(Not that I personally want ME to become CoD or even FF or something, but it would be nice to come back to the universe some time after ME3, even if not as Shepard.)

Well, let's hope Mass Effect 3 is worth it then. Or a massive RAGESTORM will hit the BSN once again.

No need to kid ourselves. Even if Mass Effect 3 would end with Shepard himself appearing, right before our eyes in real life, RAGESTORM will hit the Bioware forums.

Where the hell is the dip of those canceled preorders?

It goes to show that all the people here who cancelled were really wasting their time. EA will see this as a success which Origin helped create.

Graph only shows pre-orders for Xbox 360, where Origin doesn't exist.

Fail. with thousand of PC gamers disappointed and who have canceled their pre- orders because of origins, I'm sure it will come back to a few thousand pre -orders in a few weeks.

LOL. I believe in the power of the individual over corporations and all that great jazz, but that is a huge exaggeration.

And also highly irrelevant considering those preorder numbers are nothing but Xbox 360s, where Origin doesn't exist.

VG Chartz shows a pretty significant decrease in new pre-orders for the PC version for the week ending on January 14th. That was the same day it was confirmed that Origin was required for ME3 though (I think), so I doubt the news had gotten around by the time the numbers were recorded. Maybe we'll see on the 21st.

I'm going with over a million.

Note how low ME2's were at eight weeks, relative to its status in the final week before the game was released.

And remembering that the game leaked a week prior to release :D

Indeed, indeed. :P

589 new preorders for PC sounds pretty horrible, actually, but I don't know PC sales as well as I do for the consoles. If it's a decrease week-to-week, that's typically always a bad sign. But they'll definitely be making serious gold on the 360, so yeah.

I don't understand why any PC gamer cancels preorder or doesn't play because of Origins. We only cut ourselves if Bioware stop making games for the PC. And over something stupid like Origins ... I'd rather trust Origins than Steam. And I have it both.

And until the publishers stop acting like video game sales data is a national secret, they're the best we've got

As long as no one's using the numbers to base arguments or prove a point I don't have a problem with it. They're fun to look at but that's about all you can do with them.

Some say Origin is spyware or behaves like spyware. Plus, not that I was getting the PC version anyway, but I don't trust EA as much as I trust Valve, frankly, so I can see why people would cancel their pre-orders.

If people don't vote with their money by cancelling their pre-orders, they're essentially encouraging EA to keep doing what they're doing (e.g., not letting us buy ME3 on our preferred digital distribution platform, possibly spying on us, etc.)

Yeah guess I am also switching to consoles then next-gen because this BS is not my war really. All these problems with pirating vs spyware is really getting ridiculous. And since I never pirate anything I have no reason to play on PC other than mods. It's a shame but guess then in the long run I will just have to get used to play without mods.
