If people are annoyed by Kai Leng's feats please do not ignore the insane **** most ME companions can do. The things I just mentioned is just a small amount.

There was a reason we were constantly told we were recruiting the best people in their field.

Of course Kai Leng was over powered. He graduated from the best special forces training in the Alliance. I'm pretty sure someone from Delta Force, The Navy Seals, The S.A.S., or Spetsnaz would be able to do what Kai Leng does.

Yes we did recruit the best and TIM obviously recruited the best also. While the men in many modern Special forces are good they probably wouldn't be able to match someone like Kai Leng and Shepard. Shepard and Kai Leng are literally the best of the best in the N7. Pretty much top tier N7 operatives and they both are trained to fight people who can crush you with their mind or charging tanks.

Kai Leng in the novel wasn't really overpowered since in the general Galaxy there are likely thousands of badasses out there. Samara had a Spectre on the run from her. TIM just got someone who was pretty much as good as Anderson or possibly Shepard (not entirely likely) and used him as a sort of go to assassin. If the Alliance can churn out people like Shepard, Anderson and Zaeed it isn't unlikely Kai Leng would be there.

No.  Not at all.  I cringed when I heard he was going to be in ME3, to be honest.

Kai Leng is like an evil Chuck Norris and just as ridiculous
He's way to over the top. Sure, even the Joker is over the top but it's the Joker's insane psychology and equally mad morals that make him a compelling character. Leng is a cartoon. They should have made him a cyborg or something, maybe like Grey Fox from Metal Gear or just a bonafide Terminator. At least then his absurd fighting prowress would make some sense.

He'd still suck as a character/villain though. Completely one note without a hint of depth

Well you need someone to be as good or better then Shepard. So far we're the only baddass in the Galaxy, you could count the VS, Garrus, Jack, Gillian...

Well okay maybe you have a point... lol. Still I like Leng though he is pretty ridiculous. But to me he's the dark side of Shepard, the venom to Shep's spider man if you will.

Kai Leng isn't really over the top. We see him win in close quarters fights since he seems to specialize in close quarters fights. We rarely see him in a serious gun fight and actually win.

Saren was rather similar to that when you thing about it. In Revelations Saren did have his moment of comical evil and basically didn't just dislike humans but one of his reasons for trying to use Sovereign was to help the Turians take over the Council. Saren was a good villain because he was essentially a Turian Renegade Shepard but got indoctrinated. 

Also Thane and Zaeed are basically just as over the top as a non augmented Kai Leng is. The Former can seemingly disappear when he enters a shadow and take down multiple armored people in hand to hand before they can even react. The latter can get into hand to hand combat with a Krogan Battlemaster or Warlord and win. Hell the latter survived a freaking point blank hypervelocity round the skull. Zaeed is a freaking Krogan.

Thane pre disease vs non augmented Kai Leng could possibly end up in Thane winning but it would be one hell of a fight. Of course if it is augmented Kai Leng vs unaugmented dying Thane well its obvious who would win.

Don't forget that Thane can punch through armor like shown in the ME2 cinematic trailer.
