DW rogue running Momentum with Song of Valor: Dirty Fighting for the first stun, position for backstabs, and the paralyze runes take care of the rest. If you want extra assurance, poison to immobilize. Oh, and some armor penetration buffs like Gloves of Guile. It's not really "cheating" to use poison. You're facing a heavily armored warrior, this is your advantage, and if he knows anything about you then he knows what he's getting into.  Just as he should know that with a mage he's going to get turned into an ice block.

For me it's a point of honor to have my PC fight the duel.  If I'm a warrior and have to chug potions, that's how it's got to be.

I think this fight has a lot to do with your gear and familiarity with the game mechanics... I used Alistair on my first playthrough and got absolutely destroyed. Alistair was losing maybe 25% of his health per swing and barely scratching Loghain.



Fairly easy with the mage though. Loghain has a lowered base speed so you can outrun him. He eventually pulled out a crossbow and made it a ranged fight.

If you're really struggling with a Warrior, Swift Salve + Rock Salve + Incense of Awareness + Poisons = Dead Loghain.
