Basically, approaching an outdoors section with a flight of steps leading to something like a roof/courtyard.

There's a guard directly in front of me, right at the top of the steps, and a whole bunch of guards in the courtyard area. Clubbing the guard on the steps is possible, but that's as far as I'm able to get, as the guards in the courtyard immediately spot me if I go any further in. The Cooldown on the stun ability is too long for me to use it on the next guard, even if it were possible to get close to him. Distraction doesn't seem practical, as there's really nowhere to distract them to.

Tried this for around two hours last night and gave up in pure frustration, after nearly hurling my keyboard out the window. Tallis is starting to royally cheese me off with her snarky comments every time I fail.. I'm on the verge of hurling her off a cliff!

Tried again for an hour this morning, but once again without success. Sadly I saved just after accepting the stealth mission, and so can't go back and choose the combat option.

I remember I struggled with this as well. I finally managed it without clubbing anyone else than the first guard. I'm afraid I don't remember the exact details on how I did it. Generally though just study the movement pattern of the guards and RUN for the next shadowy spot when no one is looking in your direction. (I think having played Metal Gear Solid helped me a lot on this.)

count the guards steps. The key to sneaking is timing.

IIRC I distracted one of the guards (the one further away) and ran for the hedge on the other side then waited out the cooldown in the shadows.

I believe I did the following (or something similar):

1. Clubbed the first guard at the top of the steps.
2. Scurried to the corner opposite that guard (this put me on the same wall/hedge as one of the other guards).
3. Turned to face the door that I needed to get to.
4. When the two guards in the courtyard area started their patrol and walked toward each other, used distraction - aimed at the far right, where the space opens to another smaller courtyard of sorts.
5. If both guards went to investigate, scurried over to the left and then around to the door. If only one guard investigated, waited until the non-curious guard was turned and then scurried over to the door, or the far left corner.

The trick is to give them a wide berth. Their cone-of-vision/visibility is actually much wider than it appears on screen - running along the side of them will most likely get you caught. If you can get over to the far left corner (an alcove of sorts by the target door), you may be able to save and then start up from that point.

Good luck.

Too late, I did, and it worked. I completed MotA last night. Thanks a bunch to everyone who helped.
