What if you have a LI like Jack, Miranda, Thane : I really hope they will tag along or atleast you will be able to go see them on a planet or something. Other wise ME2 romances (besides tali and garrus) are for nothing :

I've heard you'll be able to resume romances with ME2 LIs once you meet them, but I'm not exactly sure how they'll work.

See "Lair of the Shadow Broker." It seems that the major ME2 characters will have their LotSB style missions.  Romances will probably be handled the same way but that is just my assumption.

That's why it's good that the ME3 squadmates have both more powers than in ME2 and each have two unique powers instead of just one. So you will be getting a lot more fun options in combat.:wizard:

From what I've seen the power sets for the ME3 squad members generally seem to be more versatile than the ME2 characters.   Here's a relevant post from the Stats and Powers thread....

*Snip*

Since you're quoting me, I guess I can correct a few of the additions that you must've made to my post:

AVPen wrote...

Ashley:
Concussive Shot
Disruptor Ammo
Inferno Grenade
Marksman (Increases Weapon Damage temporarily)

Marksman = Grants the user increased focus for a time, which will allow them to shoot faster and more accurately

AVPen wrote...

Secret Squadmate #2:
Slam
Biotic Focus (Makes the Squad's Biotic powers stronger)
Reave (???)
???

Biotic Focus = Biotic Focus will reset the cooldowns on offensive powers for all squad members.

The only that really irks me about the smaller 'main' squadmates group is that it, at times, feels like they are meant to be the 'main' characters over the others. I know we've yet to hear anything else about the other squad members (provided you didn't read the leaked script) but that's just the feeling I'm getting.
I'm hoping the reason for them not being a part of the main group is because they are more effective elsewhere rather than "we couldn't think of a good enough reason for them to stick around until the very last second even though they did just stick around for a suicide mission" Because while I do believe that some of the characters not on the main squad might have good reason, I feel like because they do it would be a great opening for character development in a light we haven't seen of that character.

We might end up with seven, and old ME2s could fill gaps from time to time

Marksman was overkill for pistol. Now its the same name for both Ashley weapons.

What are they
Assult rifle/???

My guess Pistol or SMG. (Samara/Thane)

Garrus has Sniper and AR
Vega has AR and Shotty

The player can't choose what weapons squadmates can equip.
Going by the leaked script, she has the same weapon loadout as garrus.:wizard:

Less squadmembers is a good thing. While I vastly prefer the squadmembers in Mass Effect 2, there was simply too many of them. And not only was there too many, but several of them made each other redundant, or were completely irrelevant to the story (Thane doesn't even have a purpose on the Suicide Mission)

Cutting the squad down allows for more conversations on the Normandy, more varied skills, and probably a lot more unique squadmember moments in general while also allowing non-permanent squadmembers a chance to shine in LotSB esque missions that makes them more relevant to the plot.

I'm torn.

I think maybe 12 was too much, although it was a cool concept.

But, now I feel like 6-7 isn't enough after meeting so many cool character through the two games.

MY suggestion?

Give us 6-8 slots that we can fill with ANY squadmates who have survived to this point and let the game play out from there. No need for new characters and I'm pretty sure multiple characters can fill different roles in the same storytelling set-pieces. I.e. Liara would know things as the Shadow Broker that Kasumi could've chanced upon while working as a thief, Miranda could've found through old Cerebus connections, or Garrus got through an old C-Sec contanct.

In what way would restricting you to only have a few of them on your ship at a time make it any less work to write full dialogue and create and balance powers for all 17 of them?

Also, if they did this, you could kiss squad banter goodbye.

Well,

1. It probably wouldn't, but it's what I wish we had the option to do.

and

2. Why? If what you said above was correct, why would they just cut out squad banter altogether?

Simple math. With 8 squadmates (VS counts as two for purposes of squad banter) you have 28 two-man combinations. With 17, you have 136. That's about 5 times as much they would have to put in, meaning they probably wouldn't do it at all.

I didn't really feel there was too much "squad banter" in ME1 or 2, aside from a select few scenes (Jack at the end of Miranda's loyalty mission, the elevators from ME1). Other than those, there were scenes where every character had a line or two that were interchangable. Not really what I would call "squad banter," but I can see where some might call it that.

I remember X-Men Legends II having "actual" squad banter," but there weren't many instances of it.

Thats because he didnt.

Liara recovered the body, and for me that is quite a favor and the only redeeming feature of hers, annoying bore that she is.  She is lucky that Bioware had her do that.  Although I'm about to play Lair of the Shadow Broker

Do this. As a person who hated Liara in both ME 1&2, LotSB redeemed her character in my eyes.

Agreed,  she's got a terrible part in the main game; but she's got a really great part in Lair of the Shadow Broker.

That said I was quite partial to her character back in ME1.   Granted I've got a thing for Intellectual girls; but I'm still surprised how many people didn't like her in ME1.

I don't have a problem with intellectual girls. I just hated Liara because her character wasn't consistant. She was constantly changing for plot convienence. First she's the bumbling damsel in distress, then she's the battle girl, next thing you know she's trying to jump your bones. Doesn't ME1 take place during 1 month? It only got worse in ME2 when she becomes the ruthless/cold hearted b**ch. In my eyes she just felt like a Mary Sue for some poorly written fanfic.

I loved the LotSB, because it finally showed what Liara was thinking and gave her some emotion. She jumped from worst to best LI in my eyes. I'm currently facing the conundrum of having her as the romance for my first ME3 playthrough. I want LotSB/ME3 Liara to be my Shepard's romance after what Ahsley said in ME2. But to do that means I have to romance Liara over Ashley (whom I feel was vastly superior as a character) in ME1.

But back on topic, this news saddens me. Especially since my favorite 2 squadmates (Legion & Kasumi) are practically confirmed to not be full time squadmates. I remember being excited over the rumors of the "Geth squadmate" for ME2. Then being heavily dissapointed that I had to sacrifice my crew to spend any time with Legion. I was hoping Bioware would make it up by giving Legion a large role for ME3. I saw him driving some vehicle during E3. I'm guessing he will just be a temp squadmate...

I wonder who be Legion's replacement if you sold him to Cerberus. Legion 2.0? Bioware doesn't seem like they're forgiving when you sacifice a character (aside from Wrex/Wreav). I mean I sacrificed Kaiden in ME1, and if Miranda isn't full time, I don't get a Sentinel squadmate to replace him. It is going to suck even more for my other Shepard who is a Soldier and saved Ashely. 3 Soldiers is overkill.

I'm happy with it. I actually had squadmates I didn't use at all in ME2. Going back to a squad similar to that of ME1 would be a good move IMO.

We had too many in ME2 and the game suffered because of it. It became more about the recruitment/loyalty missions than preparing for the Reapers. It would've been ok if most were like Mordin's but sadly that wasn't the case.

ME1 had the perfect number, IMO. One of each class is all I need, really.

Supposedly you can select your squadmate's weapon loadout (although that's frankly questionable, at this point), but I believe she'll also get an assault rifle and sniper rifle since two of her later ranks for her passive class can improve the damage she does with assault rifles and sniper rifles (in the 5th Rank and 6th Rank, respectively).

Am I the only one who misses the conversations with Kaidan Alenko about politics, BaAT, and his take on the last missions we went through?

I'm not sure on this one either.   I know that every squadmate is limited to two weapons; but I don't know if the class of those weapons is predetermined.   I did read one preview where the guy writing it mentioned seeing Liara rolling with a Revenant; but on the other hand all the footage I've personally seen of every squadmate has shown them carrying the same two weapons.

Personally I hope that all the squadmates just have a weight capacity like Shepard and you can pick whatever two weapons for them you want with heavier weapons giving them a penalty to their power cooldown (like Shepard).

I was never really a big Kaiden fan, I felt the same way about him I felt about Jacob, I didn't dislike the character I just didn't find anything about them particularly interesting.

But I did like the way that Kaiden had a different reaction each time you completed one of the major missions and he did have some pretty good litte one liners during the missions themselves.  I'd like to see both of those things return in Mass Effect 3.

Come on, there's a BIG difference between Kaiden and Jacob. Kaiden seems to be more politically adroit, conservative, pragmatic, and sensible. Still, it will be interesting to see how it turns out in ME3.

Speaking of which... who is this "spoiler character" that many people are speaking of, the one with the tech powers and NOT the Bonus DLC Character? I'd certainly like to see the reference for that.

The only reference to the character is in the leak.

On-topic, I like the smaller squad.  I like all the characters that are going to be permanent squad members, though, so I can't really complain.  I don't really like the extra two "new" characters that will fill up slots.
