I've beat the game three times, beat 'Awakening' four times, and have started as each origin. So I'm going to compile some of the fair builds (excluding most DLC equipment, since they're obviously the best, like the Sorrows of Arlathan bow) for an Archer, a Mage, a Two Handing warrior, and a Dual Weilding rogue. Your race has no effect on what skills/talents you can get. Also keep in mind I have the PS3 version, so things may varry on the PC/360 versions.

2H Warrior: Depending on if you like axes, swords, or mauls the best, I'm going to give one of each. There is a pretty nasty maul called the 'Spiked Maul' which has sevral rune slots, and can be found after killing Jarvia for either Harrowmont or Bhelen. The axe 'Faith's Edge' from the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest is obtainable by killing the cultists instead of accepting their request to destroy the ashes. and the sword... well I'm at a loss on that one. The only good 2H sword I can think of is Star Fang, but that requires the Warden's Keep DLC to get. If you have any swords you find worthy of mentioning, please let me know. For good equipment, the Dragon Bone Plate (assuming if your using a 2H, your either a massive tank, or will want extra def to make up for the lack of a shield) or the Dragon Scale armor is suitable. If your not a fan of going toe to toe with the High Dragon, then the 'Effort' armor is a formidable suit of plate, along with the Juggernaut, although thats a tad more difficult to achieve, unless, like me, you find Revenants fairly easy to dispatch. If your not able to kill the High Dragon, have no fear, I wrote a guide on how to kill it with most playable builds (archer/2H/dualweilder/mage) which you can get to by navigating to the 'Strategy and Tactics' corner of the forums. As for rings/amulets/belts, the ones you pick will be unique to your playing style, and so you should pick the ones most suitable for you.

Archer: Clearly the 'Sorrow of Arlathan' bow is the best, but if you dont have that DLC you can always save up 127 sov' and buy the 'FarSong' from that guy who replaces Owen in Redcliffe, so you must have either killed him, or told him you never found his daughter (save before going into the castle so if you do stumble upon her you can undo it and get that bow anyway) and since your going to need to go to the Urn of Sacred Ashes anyway, regardless if you faught the High Dragon or not, you should have collected enough Drake Scales along the way to get Wade to make you the superior Drake Scale Armor set. The 'Long Runners Cap' is a fair hat to wear with it. Although since I didn't treat my archer like a panzy, I suited him up in Ancient Elven Armor (BEFORE you leave Lothering, make abo****ely sure you speak to the commanding Templar and ask for 'any more help you can give me?' and he'll give you the key to the cupboard on the far wall, the boots are in there. You will NOT be able to come back after you've completed any of the main story quests). Again, rings/belts/amulets will have to be your choice, although I gave him all stamina boosting accessories, because with low WillPower and a poisonous spider, I had to regenerate for Arrow of Slayer some how.

Dual Weilder: I would normally suggest King Maric's Blade along with StarFang, but those are both DLC weapons. Instead, you can go for either Dragon Bone Longswords, or Dragon Bone Crow Daggers. If your looking to spice it up with a bit of advanced weaponry, the 'Gift of the Grey' will be available if you killed the Blood Mages in the Alienage. Once the last boss is dead talk to the elder in his house, and he will give you a dagger that Duncan had givven to him. Again, the Superior Drake Scale Armor (if your not fond of much fatigue and enjoy maximizing all your skills) or the Ancient Elven Armor is good. Keep your heavy armor for Oghren/Sten.

Swordsmen: All the above armors are good for this kind of warrior, except you may want to look for an incredible sword, such as Dragon Bone or, if your using DLCs, StarFang. I keep repeating StarFang simply because it is the best sword in the game, either if you make it into a 2H or a longsword. 3 rune slots (if memory serves) and 11 damage as a longsword, or 18 damage as a 2h, it has no equal.

Mage: now there are sevral ways to play out a mage, there is a Combat Mage and a Support mage. Combat mages, as its name suggest, take part in more offencive spell casting. Support mages, again, obviously, are there to heal/revive/buff your party. for an offencive mage, say a Blood Mage/Arcane Warrior, then using the Armor of Diligence (boots from Owen afte ryou save his daughter, armor found in the Ruined Temple on the Sacred Ashes quest, and gloves looted from a locked chest in the Orzammar Shaperate) will grant you +50 willpower for your battle magic talents. I suggest only using Blood Magic in this combo when needed, as your mage will be hurting too, being in the heat of the fight. And if your using the PS3 system like me, sompletely ignore the 'SpellWeaver' even though it says it acts as a focus like a staff, you still have to sheath it to cast spells. So its garbage, as there are better weapons out there. If your going support, say Spirit Healer/Arcane Warrior (simply for their ability to substitue magic for strength and wear heavy armor, it really sucks when your source of health dies) then you can either use the typical Robes/Staff combo, which is just fine, dont get me wrong. I have never really looked into robes, since I have the robes from that DLC, and the Sash of Forbidden Secrets. but for Staves, there is a secret way to kill Zathrien and get his staff without actually killing him. I'll disclose this information, but keep it on the down low (conspiratiorial wink). Once the WereWolves send you to bring Zathrien, do NOT go through that gate out to the large are to meet him.In fact, save before you leave the WereWold Lair incase you go to far. Then cast your best AoE spells (Inferno+Blizzard are a good combo) and since your not going to engage in combat you can cast both fairly fast without using a lerium potion. once he dies, go out and loot his body and take his staff. Then go back to the Dalish Camp, talk to him, the area around you will go blank, but when your done talking he'll still be alive and walking into the were wolf lair. Best of both worlds. Also, just a tip, its best to get Spirit Healer AND the 'Heal' in the creation tree, incase you need a more selective heal. Somtimes I wasted my 'Group Heal' on one party member, and spelled disaster for when I really needed it and ran out of poultices. The mage is probably the most complex to build, since its spells are so diverse, but if you really know what you want, its easy to build. Just play around with the options and find whats right for you.

I hope that my experience will bring the future players much satisfaction when it comes to equipping their character. I hope to make the gaming experience easier for those who want it so, and more enjoyable for those who want a look to brag about to their friends. All of my builds are practical, and useful. If you have anything to say about them, I would be most apreciative to hear about what you have done with your character and if you are currently using some that I may have missed. Also, just a recap, if you have any 2H swords and robes worthy of mentioning please do so as I'm a bit embarrased that i dont have either of them. But I was never a 2H sword user, apart from DLC equipment.
