True, but they clearly said "As you already know, the Protheans came close to defeating the Reapers once before, and Liara is there (on Mars) digging through artifacts to find some clues"Someone With Mass wrote...

Vigil was in an isolated research facility. He couldn't have possibly known everything that was going on in the war.
Especially when he was designed to keep the facility in check and nothing else.
Not exactly word for word, but as accurate as I can be.
If we already know (which WAS an exact statment) where do we know it from?
We'll we know from ME 2 that there was something about the Protheans that kept the Reapers from being able to harvest them, hence turning them into the Collectors. They were also the most advanced species in the galaxy at the time, perhaps the put up a bigger fight for the Reapers than anyone might have thought.....

Can anyone give a wuick summary of what was shown?
Lots of unrelated-to-one-another shots were flashing around in the beginning. The hype machine was rolling. Some absolutely stunning -- cannot be emphasized enough, it was movie quality -- space battle shots were in there too. Incredible.
Then there was a segment on Mars, with Mac Walters explaining the planet's relevance (Prothean-related, of course) and why you go there early on. Lots of neat shots here, all on Mars of course. Liara got some dialogue, Garrus got a line, Shepard and The Illusive Man confronted one-another. Some shots of Kai Leng looming in the background.
There was a multiplayer section too, and it's looking awesome. And some chatting with Casey, who looks tired and needs to sleep for a week when the game goes gold per my fandom-based orders.
Thanks.

Nobezy- I don't think its a cheap plot move, buddy. Remember, Vigil and Ilos protheans were isolated even after they made the Conduit. They didn't really know what was going on with the other parts of the Prothean Empire. So its entirely possible that another prothaen science team had a plan to take out the Reapers, but couldn't make it happen for some reason.Nobezy wrote...

What new info? All I heard was that protheans apparently came close to defeating the reapers before. In all my playthroughs I've never heard this. Unless I over looked it, but I don't think thats something I'd overlook.
Must be new info. Remember the communication network of the prothains was down, according to Vigil.
I feel like if this is new info, its an easy way out of a hole bioware dug themselves into. This many reapers coming into the galaxy, and all of a sudden the protheans have some secret way to perhaps destroy them? I'm watching the vigil conversation now, all 18 minutes, so I can see if it mentions anything about doing anything other than enduring the centuries of reaper attacks. I'm a little mad about this. I feel like its a cheap plot.

True. They only became Collectors through extensive genetic modification. However, Vigil claims they survived centuries, no more than that. Emphasis on the word "survived". They never faught back, they couldn't. After watching Vigil talk for 18 minutes I've learned nothing new, so the rest is, I guess, left to imagination. This doesn't satisfy me personally, I feel like if some breakthrough way of defeating the reapers is out there, it should have been present (while not obvious) throughout the trilogy. It reaaaally bothers me how he said "as we already know", because as I've also mentioned - in all my playthroughs I've never once heard a damned thing about this. Putting in 450+ hours of gameplay in both games, and this is new info to me. I'm stumped..
@ Jackal
Vigil claims after the Reaper attack a dozen of the top Prothean scientists survived because of their stasis pods. The rest of the galaxy was presumed wiped. When they sent their distress messages through the beacons, they were sending them in the hopes other life had survived. There was no word of any other survivors, especially Prothean.
