 <joyfully tacks up tacky, but pretty, purple bunting...>

I love this place =)

The people here are intelligent, willful, creative, destructive, helpful and can really take a good pun :-)

But these forums *can* be <are!> a bit wonky <technical term>.
Things happen.
Threads get stickied and then unstickied. The unstickied thread gets re-stickied and the stickied thread gets unstickied.
Um, what?
Sometimes confused or mislead people <ah-hem> post in the wrong forum. Sometimes things get a little, um, *heated*.

So it's really good we have so many forum moderators here :-)
Except, some of the forums for newer games have threads running to *hundreds* of pages and new posts every few minutes.
There's a whole lot more to social.bioware than our beloved NwN 1. And sometimes we have to yell, not only loudly, but long to attract attention.

So, I think we, as in *WE*, *US*, *All *you* <gender-neutral colloquialism here>s, should ask for a local boy to moderate at *least* the Custom Content forum.

/* Begin campaign speech */
And I think there is no more suitable local boy, er, sorry, *dragon* than The Amethyst Dragon *cues the trumpets* <uh, boss? ix-nay on the umpets-tray. they wanted gold up front>

He has *amply* demonstrated, with 17(!) Hall of Fame submissions, a long-running PW and his regular participation in the CCC <*nice* stuff, too>that he is a "subject matter expert".

Standing by his guns on the subject of IP and his PW-only content demonstrates both the fortitude to face controversy, but the strength and color of his ethical convictions... <nice phrase, boss>
*Would* you at least give me the courtesy to stop muttering while I'm pontificating?! <oh, touchy! sorry for complimenting you, old man>
Hmmph. Where was I? <strength & color...>
Right. It not only shows his fortitude and convictions, but also, IMNSHO, shows he can and does maintain an even temper and understanding.
Then there is the www.neverwinternights.info (NWN Community Site). *He* did that. He *does* that.
I think that's incredibly cool. <cool?>
Grrrr. <sorry>
This wasn't his idea. *looks vacant* (Damn, forget who's idea it *was* :-/ Lightfoot, I think. Or TSL...) But it's a damn *good* idea. :-)
/* End campaign speech */

So, what do *you* think? <me?> (no.) <oh.>
Chime in. Take a soapbox and tell us all what you think of having an active poster be moderator.
Tell us what you think of TAD.
Except TAD.
Sorry, big-guy, but you can't toot your own horn here. (but that soapbox right over *there* would hold your weight perfectly. Honest =)

Please *don't* tell us what you think of *me* <that kinda language is inappropriate ina family forum> Exactly.

<...and strategically places certain *specially-prepared* soapboxes>

<nodding vigorously...>

Yup. I think if enough people post in support here, we can make a pretty good case to EA/Bioware/Whoever's in charge of check-boxing the right permissions...

I'll add my vote for AD.
Has anyone thought to ask the dragon what he thinks of this idea yet?

A perfect fit for him since he has so much spare time anyway. :P

And he is is pretty "moderate" besides. *wondering what the heck I meant by that*

no. No. NO!

The Amethyst Dragon will become far too busy, spending hours on end keeping all you trouble makers in line, closing threads, sending out warning PMs to each and everyone of you, that they'll be no time for making new custom content.

This is a bad idea that will bring custom content to a stand still.

It must not happen.

FP!

I agree with FP. But not in a tongue in cheek fashion.

AD's value to the community doing what he is already doing far outshines the value of the entire BSN network let alone AD's value as a moderator of it.

-10 (if my opinion can be waited as such. I unfortunately am not even a member of the 5% (people who make slightly more than median income) let alone the .001%, so I can't buy votes. But I'd cash in my moral authority to get a -10 on this if I could.)

I was thinking of him just as a Mod for the CC forum.  Those other forums can get their own mods!  Just to sticky, unsticky, put out the occasional ember- that sort of thing.

But now that the gauntlet has been thrown, if AD chooses NOT to become a mod then Rolo's pennance is to host a 6-part roundtable-style podcast on CC.  I've got the other panel participants narrowed down to 6-7 people.  All of which (except for one, who could hopefully be convinced into doing it) have already been on the Podcast before.

(+1 Dramatic Tension)

I think we do a pretty good job moderating ourselves and I've never had any problems getting a quick response from BioWare with a PM to Chris Priestly. Granted, sometimes the response isn't always what we want, but...

Besides, I'd rather see AD doing what he does best - keeping his PW alive and honing his CC skills.

 <looking just a tad...>

@ OTR: Don't even think about it :-P Never even *tried* to get audio input working on this thang.

@ Henesua: Agreed that the AD's work is a) incredible and B) important. Disagree that he would be spending too much time moderating to create.  That would be up to him, of course, but he strikes me as someone who knows how much to commit and can certainly handle multi-tasking.

To put it in perspective, I co-moderated the original NwN forums (2 of us, 8 of them, if I remember correctly) for a year. That was one of the most *productive* years I've had custom-content-wise (though I've been creating like a madman since joining in the CCC fun and games). And in those days we worried a lot more about trolls and off-topics and such.  In that respect, as P says, we are pretty good at self-moderating.

But we could definitely use someone who is *here* to fix glitches. My opinion.

This wasn't TAD's idea, but I did PM him long before I proposed this. Unless he's changed his mind, he's willing because he sees that a local touch would help, and because he thinks he can handle it.  I think it's pretty clear Aenea is his priority and he won't let it suffer. But I don't think the moderator duties are nearly that onerous.

@ pstmarie: I want to see TAD honing his CC skills, too :-) *Especially* now that I'm trying to MC the CCC :-P

But I really don't think it's a boolean proposition (see above). It's not one or the other. If it becomes that, he can do what the other moderators do, concentrate on what's important to them.

Which brings me to the point I made above and on the CEP & Q thread. Chris has fixed several things for me and always been polite and professional. But do you know how often I, TSL and others PMed him over sticky issues? Not just the CCC thread, which has been stickied twice, but the CC Tutorial thread, the CEP & Q thread (which has come undone like the CCC)?

Opinion #1: It's to *their* advantage to have a CC *poster* moderate the CC forum.
Opinion #2: It's to *our* advantage to have a CC poster moderate the CC forum.
Opinion #3: I can think of no one better, and few as good, as the Amethyst Dragon to do the job.

Edit: All *that* being said, I'm not married to the idea :-) I think it's a good idea, but it won't make me cry to see it shot down in flames <he's used to being shot down... ;->

<...wry>

Given your experience as a forum mod with bioware in the past, is there a reason you volunteered AD and not yourself?

Be well. Game on.

Yup.

The CCC is *considerably* more work than moderating. Think of it as trying to coordinate a large development team that does not and will not use a common design document. And sometimes won't even show up for work, even in their pajamas! <yup. herding cats>

Easier than running a PW, but still a lot of work I am *not* doing on the Gemworld of Amethyst.

If it wasn't so blasted fun, I wouldn't be doing it at all.
But it is. =)
So I do.
Which leaves me zero time for more commitments on top of my *own* world that may one day see the light of this sun. :-P

A man's gotta know his limitations :-)

I don't think BioWare is at all interested in making any additions to their NWN/NWN2 Moderator list, even if precious few of the 'current' ones are active.

What would make you think that? Have you inquired?

I'd have to agree, even though I don't think he'd do a poor job. He has his own PW as well and that's alot of work in itself.
