So its no secret that Video Game Trailers can be very deceiving to the actual final product. I'm looking at you sacred ashes trailer. That being said, I think we'd all be lying if it doesn't pique some interest in the product it's trying to push.

After reading a few interviews and seeing the trailers I have to admit that I think this time around it might actually be telling of the final product.

Anyone Else Curious how this will play out? I've been disappointed by previous Tomb Raider titles and never felt any of the older titles have tried and never felt like they even tried to touch the M rating, but it looks like this one could actually be the serious answer to Uncharted.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

Yup definitely looking forward to this. I've been a long time fan of the Tomb Raider series and I can't wait to see where they take the series.

Uncharted raised a question? Clearly crystal dynamics has been playing close attention to the work of naughty dog. After the lack of sales with TR: Underworld, they realized it needed the series needed a drastic reboot. The direction is a far more modern take on the tomb raider franchise.

My interest is slightly piqued. It will perform critically and commercially better than previous iterations. Whether it can outbeat Uncharted is unlikely, but it remains to be seen until launch.

And that's my 2 cents.

I love Uncharted and own all 3, however its very clear that it's not a story that's meant to be serious since its like an Indiana Jones story, lighthearted and fun. The new Tomb Raider looks like it could be a hard M that tells a serious and dark story. Its what I want most from this.

I've played games in this series on and off since the original on Playstation. It's been a mixed bag. Some installments were great and others sucked. Hell, Tomb Raider 2 almost made quit playing those games right there. That said, I never felt the games needed to feel darker. I'm so sick of grittiness and so called "mature themes". All I care about is that the elements of a game's plot and tone feel right.

What drew me to Tomb Raider was that at the time, female protagonists in games were even rarer than today. Then comes along Lara who is an intelligent, athletic badass that takes crap from no one. That was unheard of in the mid 90s. Of course the sexualization was annoying, but at least it didn't pollute the actual gameplay so much as influence Lara's design, outfits, and what kind of fans the series commonly attracted.

This new one could be good. I'm almost certainly buying it. My only reservation is they don't go overboard with this "vulnerable" novice Lara. I better still see a capable and clever woman underneath or the struggle or I will be pissed. Likewise, I'm leery that this clothing degradation thing could be a cheap way to titillate the player. At least that's how I've usually seen that feature used with female characters in the past. I'm not raising my expectations high, but I will keep my fingers crossed.

The series needed a reboot, and it got one.

I plan to pick this up later in the year.

Sure it needed a reboot (actually, it already got two), but that E3 trailer looked like Lost meets Heavy Rain. Not exactly what I wanted the series to evolve into. There are already too many cinematic on-rails action games out there.

Funny though, that in the Core Design Tomb Raiders 16-year old Lara had already explored Angkor Wat and an Irish isle infested with ghosts. Not to mention 9-year Lara survived alone in the Himalayas.

So, I'm not really buying into this.:P

The only thing that's going to bug me is I hate quicktime events.

Thinking about it, the inclusion of quicktime events might actually cause me to NOT pick it up.

I am excited for it. I could never take old lara seriously TBH. Crystal dynamics also has a new IP in the works. They made some of the best games Gex and blood omen for example. :D

Crystal Dynamics is a great, albeit underrated, developer. I'm really looking forward to this Tomb Raider.

I always rented it on N64 and PS1. I'd love an HD collection of them or the Blood omen series. I have Blood omen 1 but yet to play it.

QTEs dont mind me as long as they're not annoyingly over used or used in situations that really don't call for one or for doing simple **** (BF3. Dice wtf was that?). I like Space marines because you were either getting health or beating the **** out of the last boss. (That last boss was pathetic though. Do better next time Relic)

I barely played BF3(it completely sucked), but the quicktime events in that game didn't bother me the whole 2 or 3 times I did them because there was NO way to screw them up.

They gave you a whole 30 second window to hit the button, it seemed.

Gex was an okay game. I played the heck out of it on 3DO. A bit simplistic compared to Mario, Sonic, or even Rayman; but Dana Gould's one-liners made up for it. The sequel was terrible, tho'.

The series immediately took a turn for the worse when the original game's creators jumped ship, and what remained of Core Design was forced to milk the franchise with uninspired sequel after sequel.

While the turning point was when Crystal Dynamics took over, I think the last few games benefited more from Toby Gard's return than anything else. Not much of a shock considering he had a hand in creating Lara. In my opinion, Crystal Dynamics developing this rebooted version means little if he is not still on board.

I would say being someone who's 22/23 who's all alone and shipwrecked on a deserted unknown island trying to find her way back home calls for something of a dark theme. If it were an experienced Lara who's merely hunting artifacts then a theme similar to Uncharted would be fitting, but the story's already been set up as being more real (no winged demons or clones from hell)

I agree with that, not enough tough no nonsense female leads in games and too many teenage girls masquerading as tough women who only serve the purpose to swoon over the protagonist. Lara is very different in that respect and this one seems like it wont have the opportunity to sexualize her. Hard to do with a rebar through your abdomen and gashes on your face and arms.

Well, there definitely be some degree of faliure on her part since this is the very first time Lara would be doing anything adventerous and its not the kind she planned on. She was on an expedition but is quickly left on her own and fend for herself which is something totally new to her. I imagine we'll see the kind of Epic that takes a hero from infancy to actually proving themselves, which is what the devs said the story is truly about.

Sod this, Crystal Dynamics you get back Amy Hennig and you write another Legacy of Kain game. The market in tiny underwear models kung fu fighting marines and t rex's has been done to death, let's resume Kains struggle against the false prophecies of tyrannous stars now that his right hand is once more by his side.

Blothulfur abhors a dearth of Kain.

I've been a fan of Tomb Raider ever since I was a kid with TR1 and although it got quite tiresome around TR3 I actually did enjoy the latest title(Underworld and Anniversary) and the reboot looks even better. It's exactly what the series needed, a breath of fresh air. I did enjoy Unchartted and it looks like this will  along similar lines mixed in with some survival horror elements. The trailer and all the screenshots I saw looked amazing, this will def be a pre-order for me. I hope there's a PC version(Tom Raider started on PC after all ;))

Also, Lara's boobs are smaller.

That was hilarious. I can't really disagree with his assessment of the series or Lara's personality. Although I think the latter wasn't quite so bad in the beginning. The endless rehashing was why I stopped buying those games after TR2.

Another Other M is a strong possibility, yep.
