What you say sounds good but what do you mean by broken?

By broken I mean she has to come to a point where she realizes that the person who she is is not enough to survive in that world nor stay alive long enough to be rescued. After that point of "breaking" Lara as she was, she can begin to rebuild herself as a natural survivor who can last in the wilderness and stand against any enemy without any sign of fear. But before she can be that person, she has to lose the person she is at the beginning.

What you say sounds interesting and if you are correct then i will probably buy the game.

I hope it will not be very linier and give us a chance to mould Lara in some of the decisions.

It would be nice if they did that, but so many games and developers have promised that and never delivered that now that kind of promise with a game feels empty. I care more that they weave the story together in a strong and coherent manner.

I don't even view in terms of the character development. I think that's fine and I completely understand the idea behind what they're gonna do with the Lara character.

Fact remains is that the way they portray in that trailer, they are really, as someone put it, laying it on really thick. Like 3 minutes of falling, falling on sharp objects (or whatever that was at the start of the trailer). almost getting crushed, stepping into beartraps, getting savaged by a dog, molested by evil person, beaten etc. It feels like they are reveling in it. And even if they are not and it really is about "the re-imagining of Lara" or how you want to put it... it's about as subtle as a brick to the face.

EDIT: To clarify my position, I quite hope that there will be good gameplay in this title. And I also hope that it will not feel like 'Uncharted: But with Lara Croft!'

You should pay close attention. The entire trailer shows something horrible happening, then her overcoming it, over and over again. She falls on a spike, then escapes an explosion. She nearly slips and falls, then escapes a collapsing cave. She nearly falls to her death then kills a deer. She's attacked by a wolf then knocks the s*it out of it. The merc gropes her, then she beats him and kills him.

That's going to be the theme of the game, Lara meeting an obstacle that seems insurmountable to her, then she overcomes it. That pattern of facing an imposing task and succeeding is what's going to make her grow in the character we expect her to be.

She's no victim, and that trailer shows it.

An attempted rape scene in a Tomb Raider game. Talk about ramping up to a darker tone.

True, I found them all to be extremely generic and boring.

Sad but true. Who knew a game about the origins of a sexy action woman could be more interesting than the later adventures of the same sexy action woman?=]

Also I can just see this Tomb Raider being the first Tomb Raider to have good gameplay.=]

But we do have that for Nathan. He ran away and was homeless as a child. He got in over his head, was hunted donw and almost killed. His saving grace was having someone else come, save him, and teach him everything he knows. If there was no Sully Marlowe would've killed 14 year old Nathan.

For a number of reasons I have sadly yet to play any Uncharted game. It's surely interesting backstory but did they ever have you play through that at all, let alone for huge portions of a game? In fact I doubt they even had cut scenes showing it instead of just revealing it through dialog. If I happen to be wrong about this, then yay Naughty Dog, but I doubt it.

And this is now what, the fifth continuity for Tomb Raider? In all prior ones (Core Design's original games, Top Cow's comic books, the movies and Crystal Dynamics' first reboot) she had a number of defining experiences, the major one always having been her being the sole survivor of a plan crash that depending on the continuity robbed her of friends and/or family. So it's not like the idea of her suddenly having to survive in the wilderness after a massive trauma is a wholly new idea. Although judging by the released material she starts out way more incompetent now. Joy.

In Uncharted 3 there's an entire act devoted to playing as child Nathan. So yes we do play through it.

This is an entirely new continuity, so her past incarnations have no influence over this.

Maybe even the first halfway-decent story! Maybe...

Legend and Anniversary were very solid as platformers. Legend just had waaaaay too much of the crappy gunplay.

Anniversary was a ton of platforming and puzzling with filler, easy combat here and there which is why I consider it great (not amazing or a masterpeice, mind you) and the best in the franchise.

I see this Tomb Raider game as the closest I'm gonna get to Uncharted on a 360.

Most likely not as good as Uncharted, but I'll take what I can get.

It's 2012, and Lara's breasts are still not affected by gravity.

If the game really is an interactive movie QTE fest like the trailers suggest, it'll have to wait for a Steam sale.

I found TR: Underworld to be pretty good, it would have been a 9/10 game if not for the horrendous combat. I found the platforming and puzzles quite enjoyable. Story was just about passable from what I remember.

Am I the only one who finds Uncharted to be way overrated? I'm not saying its a bad game, infact its a very very good game but I just don't get the hype. People seem to talk as if its a masterpiece to be looked up to, its good but not THAT good.

I hated the old TR games because it was nothing more than are commercial begging you to stare at her ******. This game is trying to actually do something that makes the tone and the character worthwhile.

From what I've read and seen I'm hoping this will be better than the Uncharted Series, and that comes from someone who bought Among Thieves and Drake's Deception on day one.

U2 was the only one I'd consider truly great (until the last 2 hours). U1 often grated on me because of bullet-sponge baddies that came in overly generous waves per combat encounter. U3 was just more of the same of U2.

Uncharted is good for the person who isn't pretentious enough to turn their nose up at action movies. If you know how to have a good time watching a Statham movie, and know you're watching it just for the action, then you'll love Uncharted. If you're they type of person who will only play rpgs, read every book in the Fallout wasteland, listen to every holotape and have to investigate every nook and cranny then this wont be enough for you.

It's all about being able to have fun with a game, which is what they're supposed to be about.

I love action films, I grew up watching almost nothing else. I'm not saying Uncharted is a bad game by any stretch, I did enjoy it and think its a very very good game. I had fun playing it but wouldn't call it a classic that I'll always remember.

It's more True Lies than Predator. More Armour of God 2 than Police Story. Very good and I enjoyed them but didn't love them.

I thought U1 gave a good scope of what the series could become, and how banter and character relationships were important to the storyline.  It wasn't great, but it brought some promising elements from graphics to characterization (Elena is one of the best portrayals of a woman out there in gamingdom) to fluid action.  Then U2 came along and it became really great, imo.  The contrived Chloe/Nathan sexytime past and present stuff was overdone, but everything else was really exceptional to me.  There was a lot of relationship building and exposition.  U3 came... and it was more of the same U2 evil plotploints, but horribly ruined the charm and love of what made U1 and U2 special with its characters and motley crew hijinks.  Chloe and Elena were barely even in the game, and the endboss stuff was really terrible.

U3 shows some of Nathan's origins and he was never a victim, even as a preteen kid.  He was parkouring everything like superman and conning and thieving everyone.  :P

Actually has anyone played Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light? That was a really fun co-op platformer puzzler. I wholeheartedly reccomend it (especially with a friend) and if it's any more incentive it's nothing like the traditional TRs.

Anyway new info.

Man, I really hope this game turns out amazing so that it continues going forward into sequels.
