I don't find either one a chore at the moment, but I think ME1 is certainly edging that way. Going through every one of those sidequests with their identical building layouts for 14 playthroughs is bound to have some effect...right?

Will be hard to resist it and to focus on the previous two, but given I also have a dissertation to work on then I fully expect not to get to starting ME3 until after my graduation

Never did ME feel like a grind though I did rush through Noveria on my last playthrough - started hating Noveria because of all the walking and having to deal with that Salarian instead of just shooting him.

The beginning of ME1 is slow to me, but once I get past that the game will never get old. I could play through Virmire, Ilos and the Battle of the Citadel forever, those are probably my three favorite missions out of both games.
ME2 I can't really get through anymore, the recruitment missions are just too numerous and get old fast.
Pretty much the same as this^ I find ME2 more of a chore to get through. It feels like an interactive movie at times, and I hate the fact you can't skip the lazerus base/tutorial.
Give me the spice-girls game over that tutorial mission anyday..

The DA series replaced my ME hard-on, and then DA2 came out. Now....i have nothing.

I've played through 4 to 5 times on both games. It has gotten a little repetitive at points, but overall I don't think it has become a 'chore'. I still love playing through it
This quote exactly. There are some bits in Mass Effect 1 that feel a bit repetitive, but the game overall I just love so much that it does little to actually bother me. Haven't played Mass Effect 2 for several months, and I'm trying to play through both games slowly, so I can get up to the point of completing the game and the DLC up to Arrival, so I can beat Arrival on the afternoon/evening of March 5th and thus have a clean transition into Mass Effect 3 after midnight.

I haven't played ME1 or ME2 in about 1 year now. It was originally because i wanted my next playthrough, my ME3 playthrough, to feel like i'm playing the games all over again. At first it was hard for me to stop playing, i really had to restrain myself to not start another playthrough. And then, i eventually had no desire to play the games at all. Now, i really don't like ME anymore. Probably a bad decision to completely drop the games.

Just wait...Mass Effect 3 will come out, you'll play it, and everything you once harbored will return. Mass Effect is one of those series' that will stay with you no matter what. It's just too awesome to give up.

I'll do the same for ME3. Play on normal (maybe again on the hardest difficulty if it's that good), and wait until all of the DLC comes out.

It isn't the repetition, it is the MAKO that is the real killer. If I could not drive that PoS around all my other issues with ME1 I could deal with but it just can't be skipped. Even the worst of the grind in ME2 of planet scanning is really pretty breezy when you start with 50k resources but not much can be done about the MAKO.

Months later, I saw ME1 at my local library and thought I would give it another try (why a library had Video games was beyond me, but cool). After forcing an hour and a half of gameplay I was hooked. So hooked I pre-ordered the Collectors' Edition for ME2. I played ME2 on one playtrough and never took advantage of the New Game+. I was too scared to mess up all of my hard work as I didn't know if it would overwrite everything I did already or how the save system worked on a second playthrough. I was also just comfortable running around when the DLC started to come out.
A year later, with ME3 on the horizon I braved it out and did my homework on the seemless transition to a New Game+, and am so upset I didn't take advantage of it before, but I'm back in it on Insanity and think it couldn't be a better time to have picked up the controller again. I only wish I had more time for Mass Effect 1.

I only have this problem with some of the missions in ME1. Either the areas are too mountainous to use the Mako properly or they just feel too similiar... reast of the game I have no problem.
OT: There is no area the MAKO cannot climb. Meself made a sport out of it: zig zagging up mountains, then enjoy the five second airtime from the fall while doing funny stunts with the boosters. Or just parking it like a pro after such a fall, next to a mineral deposit. Also. Boosters. Don't use them if not needed, they screw up the climb, but speed up the descent. Also, the maps seem to have predetermined paths in them, areas the mako can easily pass through, and they usually have a lot of mineral deposits on the way to guide you to the waypoint.
For ME 2: It helps to save up most N7 missions until AFTER the SM. The main story passes quickly, so you can decide afterwards what to complete until ME3 comes out. Gives the story a better pacing, making it less tedious.

This is called branching narrative, it's kind of like those choices that Bioware have been hyping the **** out of, except in this case it's not as simple as a red action/blue action choice. You need to think for yourself a little bit, and you aren't explicitly told about the plant or that you could earn a favor from the administrator.
this is what Mass Effect 2 was lacking, and what I want in ME3.
