Maybe Jesse views ME3 as his crowning achievement that can't be followed and is leaving to do a less demanding job so he can take care of his kids :P

The game is done so it's not like it matters. Maybe he just wants to try something new?
Good luck to you Jesse.

I didn't quite believe his tweet when I read it.  I thought he might have been goofing around with people so I came here just to double check and see this. I always liked Jesse and he is one of the few bioware guys I still follow on Twitter (along with Christina).

Whilst I won't be bothering with ME 3 (no I don't care to discuss why here)  I still appreciate the hard work he and others have put into the series and it is a shame to see him leave Bioware.  However  we only get one shot at this crazy thing called "existence"  and he must do what he feels is best for himself and his family.

You forgot Christina Norman.

Christina left Bioware and started working for Riot because she moved with her husband to the United States. There was no conspiracy with her leaving.

This. Even the peeps at BW have lives outside of their work.

Well, the game is as good as finished.

Not sure why he didn't stay until it went gold, but good luck to him in the future.

Here's a conspiracy for you.

He announced he was leaving right after he mentioned finishing his definitive playthrough for his FemShep. The implication here is obvious: he was only working at BioWare so he could play Mass Effect before everyone else. Now that he is done, he's moving to Tahiti.

Best of luck, Jesse.

Brent Knowles left, producer of Dragon Age: Origins and his hatred of Dragon Age II and EA's direction of BioWare is very well known. My prediction is the same is about to occur with Jesse Houston.

Aka the multiplayer "aspect" of ME3 is foreshadowing the future direction of the series.  Just what the majority wanted!

How is it done when there is 2 months left of development? For all we know Bioware could delay it again.

Jesse's gone?

Zaeed Massani is not going to be happy.

I hear he would trade in every employee he has in his possession for just one more game with that old producer.

Maybe it's happened before, but I don't remember a time where a hard street date release was announced and then pushed back, especially not one this close. That would ****** off a lot of retailers.  On top of that, games typically go gold 3-4 weeks prior to the release, so in theory there's only a few weeks left for actual development--most of which is bug quashing and optimization.  If more than that is needed, they will continue doing whatever they can to fix any major issues for a day one patch.

I'm definitely going to miss Jesse. I'll pass on a story I'm sure he won't mind me sharing.

We hadn't worked together before until we went to Gamescom together to show off ME2. He was working in the press room and I was running errands for him until the public show opened. I'd fetch him coffee, water and make introductions when new people arrived for Jesse's demo. About 1/2 way through the day, he took me aside and said "Chris, so you know my name is Houston (pronounced How-stun), not Houston (pronouced Hew-stun) like the city in Texas." I apologized, but he downplayed it, forgave me and said it happens all the time. For the rest of the day, whenever he couldn't hear me,I introduced him as different Texas cities "This is Jesse Dallas, Jesse San Antonio, Jesse Austin, etc".

It is a shame to lose Jesse, but people move on. I am jealous that he gets to be somewhere warmer. Mass Effect is a better series for having him be a part of it. :)

Thanks for sharing! I wish him the best of luck.

Nice story Chris. :) It can be sad when colleagues leave - they kind of become a bit like extended family given the amount of time we spend with them. :)

I wish him and his family all the best and thank him for giving me so much gaming joy over the years. :)

i dont wanna talk about conspiracies and nothing, but i think this is a clear vision of what is happening right know with bioware and ea. a producer that leaves a studio 6 weeks before tha launch of the game sounds terrible to me. i wish him the best.

Because his work probably is isn't needed anymore. They are probably working on the final touches. Houston probably wanted to spread his wings other places besides Bioware.

:( Ahh sad to hear.

Jesse was awesome! But I'm sure we'll see him around in other projects elsewhere!

All the best - your ME twitter commentary was the source of much amusement - I look forward to your future endeavours!

BTW, if you sift through his recent tweets, he's actually dropped a goodly number of hints about his next move, which he sounds pretty stoked about. I'm sticking to my original hunch that he's gotten the opportunity to run an entire project as director.
