What of it? Would master Yoda be less wise if he was pink instead of green? Most of the main cast of the Star Wars movies are human already.
Being of a different species doesn't automatically makes a character more insteresting than the human characters on the squad. It seems to me that, most of the time, it's actually the opposite. The human characters have to actually be worked on extensively to make them different from people you can meet everyday while the aliens just are.
Sure, you have aliens who are extremely interesting like Wrex or Mordin but then you also have aliens like Tali whose character appears to be limited to being a quarian and they, somehow, get a free pass to every game in the series.
